  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) Trade AJ for Cain, Lincecum, and Brad Hennessey Yea, but the Giants may not go for that. I'd still do it for just Cain and Lincecum.
  2. That's the great thing about baseball (and not so great). We lose on a 2-hitter last night and we have people predicting 90 losses. We beat a not so good Toronto team and we are back. I think it's somewhere in between. I still don't think this is a playoff team in the particular division we play in (and league). Put this team in the NL and we'd be right there, but that's conjecture and basically a futile exercise to contemplate. Having said all that, I am a HUGE believer of having energy in a lineup. We had that with Pods in 2005 and have been missing that. Erstad is a solid guy and plays his heart out, but Owens just has more spark. Even when Erstad returns I could (could, and hope) see Owens moving to LF and continuing to leadoff. If this is Owens's time then it could be an interesting thing to watch. I hate HATE HATE watching our laborious offense plodding through ground outs, strike outs, pop outs waiting for that elusive 3 run homer. One team has stolen fewer bases than us in the American League...I believe if that changes we could at least make this season interesting.
  3. I'd love a package that got us Kevin Fransden, Justin Knoedler and Mike Mooney. Fransden can play 2nd or SS, Knoedler is the prospect catcher we don't have and Mooney is a high A ball kid with excellent upside. The problem with this deal is it is a complete white flag deal as only Fransden could be expected to contribute immediately.
  4. Wow...Risky move by Ozzie. I always error on the side of the SP, but that was not looking good. Nice going Javy
  5. Bring in Matt to go after Overbay? Tie runner is up now.
  6. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) Ozzie getting greedy by putting Vazquez in for 8? I don't think so. Javy is under 100 pitches and the pen has already screwed him a couple times this year. As much as Im not a Javy fan, dude deserve to take it through at least 8.
  7. QUOTE(chisoxt @ May 31, 2007 -> 09:09 PM) This post makes zero sense. This Sox team should be a seller, not a buyer. Totally agree and most of the players we would get in such deals would not be 'named players', they'd be prospects, hopefully really good ones. Whatever the case, our team has gotten old, fast. We're going to have to shake it up and improve our system. We can largely do that with 3 or 4 good deals at the deadline (1 SP, 1RP, 3+ position players)
  8. I don't think Walker is the problem...we just don't have a good hitting team unless we are going yard 3 or 4 times a game. Uribe .210 Mack . 239 Crede .227 PK .229 Gooch .223 AJP looks like Ted Williams with his .255 average To top that off, very little speed and mostly poor fundamental baseball. We have 3 or 4 players in our lineup right now (CF, LF, 2nd for sure, not impressed with SS or 3rd) that would not start for most teams in baseball. And I have little confidence that help is in Charlotte. Sweeney is hitting about .250 down there and Anderson around .270. Owens is no help and is more a utility guy. We're screwed for this year. And get well Darrin...dude probably was one of our best players this year so far.
  9. This is just not a very good team and I doubt it is capable of making post-season.... we have the most lackluster middle in baseball...uribe, iguchi and erstad? That is very ordinary. We are adequate at catcher with AJP and Hall, but do we have anyone in the wings? the corners are good enough, but Crede's value was at its highest in the off-season. We can only speculate what kind of offers we may have gotten from the padres or angels, but at this point we probably can't deal him...he has all kinds of negatives to include his back and Boras. The outfield is a proverbial joke. J.Dye is still productive, but he is wearing down some. Erstad is a solid ROLE player, who can play mutiple positions and help in a platoon situation. He isn't a guy a championship team would give 550 ABs to. Left Field, is disgraceful. And it appears Sweeney, Fields, and Anderson are either A) Not ready, B) Just not good enough. The bullpen is a trainwreck, but there is youth and potential out there. MacDougal's failure and Thornton's early season slump (he's been much better lately) have made the pen look worse than it is. I do think the pen can turn it around. What do you want to do? We went out and made a bunch of deals last year to improve the pen (Massett, Sisco, MacDougal last year, Aardsma) getting rid of Cotts, Vizcaino, and Pollitte only to STILL HAVE a s***ty pen. I am not ready for a fire sale, but I think the All Star break is the cutoff time. If we haven't seen major progress, then I think Kenny Williams needs to make some major deals. I'd love to keep Mark Buehrle, but I fear he'll be one of the first dealt, because he would be an instant shot to any rotation in baseball. And lets face it...he'd probably bring us the best bounty of return talent. Garland, Count, and Vazquez are all nice pitchers...and I could see any of them being dealt. The minors appear to be no help right now. We call up Day, Gonzalez, Wiki, Sweeney and they all look terribly overmatched. Our best prospects are AA or A ball... It is imperative we improve our talent across the board, because of the talent in Minnesota, Cleveland, Detroit and KC...Det and KC drafted at the top of the order for much of this past decade (Detroit with Andrew Miller for example) and at some point that will start paying off. The White Sox haven't had a 100 loss year to go up and get a Tim Lincecum or Andrew Miller. I don't want that either. I'd rather trade for someone currently moving up the minor league systems instead of sucking terribly and then hoping our draft pick works out. We have some very valuable commodities and if this team is well out by July and showing no signs then I would totally approve of a major youth movement.
  10. Can someone explain the fascination with Hermida? I know he's a top prospect, former first rounder, and is entrenched at RF for Florida, but he hasn't really done much and since a brief streak right after his activation is on a 1 for 17 slump or something like that. Hermida is fools gold to me. At least until he shows it.
  11. I wouldn't even want to play a league where guys like Scott Kazmir and Prince Fielder get dropped. Geeze...
  12. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) Welcome to 8th place. You were saying? I am currently in first place (2 games up). Valverde is 18 of 20 on SVO, and has been brilliant save one real meltdown this year. I don't think I've lost SAVES cat once this year with Valverde, Isringhausen, Saito, and Benetiz (who I don't really like that much).
  13. The only player I have any interest in off the Reds is Freel. I have no interest in aging players who can't run and are now injury prone.
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 19, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) have the ability to get to another world series. then so do 15 other teams. This team looks like about 15 other teams...some nice parts to it (starting pitching) and then a lot of crap thrown in. When Rob Mackowiak is hitting #5 for you (as he did a couple games ago) you know you have issues. Many of our players are aging, fading stars...and our youngster don't appear to be ready, if they ever will be. We don't really have anyone who runs much and it's hard to score on 3 straight singles when you top averaged hitter is around .255. Cleveland and Detroit are better clubs. Minnesota may be fading out quickly with their injuries, but you never count those guys out.
  15. This team is a very average team right now. The starting pitching seems to be the only dependable part of this team. Ozzie can do nothing about this. What will you whiners say tomorrow when Thornton blows an 8th inning lead? We have to be able to count on these guys..MacDougal and Aardsma are major cogs in the pen, if they can't get people out we have no chance.
  16. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 13, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) If by "blow up", you mean break up the no-hitter, I think you are probably right. We can scratch out one hit today. And we just did. The flood gates are about to open.
  17. We're fine folks...just ride it out. Javy has navigated through the first 4...now we will blowup.
  18. I like the way Chris Getz is coming along. I was thinking a platoon type utility player at first, but maybe he's a legitimate 2nd base prospect.
  19. I know you dont put the winning run on first, but Hunter demands serious respect right now. In fact, I thought Aardsma should have stared that inning. Damnit...we had a win right in the bag and may blow it. 2007 season continues to haunt.
  20. I don't think Dye was playing that deep, because Bartlett has no power...well, except against us ... isn't Bartlett the punch-and-judy hitter that hit his only homer off Contreras last year in a late inning win for the Twins v. us?
  21. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 6, 2007 -> 11:48 PM) We need to trade for Michael Bourn Supremacy and make him the starter in LF with Sweeney in RF. Bourn is a player I've coveted for a while, but he is not a LF...his arm is too good for LF...You'd see him in CF or RF. Most likely CF because he's not much of a power hitter, but he has blazing speed, plays great defense, and can hit. I'd love to get him, but he's probably not going to be ready until next year. That all said, I don't think this season is near over and want to ride it and see where it goes. If we fall off the pace (possible) then we trade...if we stay in the race (also possible) then we need the people who got us there.
