QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) Wait, are you telling me Jerry Owens isn't considered a big time prospect? That Sean Tracey, Arnie Munoz and Casey Rogowski won't bring me big time talent in return? Throw in Stephen Randolph and you can maybe pull it off.

I love some of these offers...reminds me of my fantasy football league. We have one guy who makes these type of offers You give me LaDainian Tomlinson and Ill give you Sammy Morris, Bo Scaife, Sammie Parker, the Cardinals defense, and I'll even throw in Brandon Lloyd.

Prospect: Carlos Vazquez Projected 2007 Level: AA Born: 12/6/1982 Age: 24 Birthplace: Sucre, Venezuela Position: Relief Pitcher Throws: L Height/Weight: 6’2, 220 Notes and tidbits: -Was on the Cubs 40-man roster in 2003 -Was listed as 15th best pitching prospect in Cubs organization in 2005 -Was suspended 15 games for steroid usage (http://www.contractbud.com/article.php?article=apc_steroid2005list) -In 2003, pitching for Lansing he gave up 5 homers in 137.1 innings. He struck out 87 in 137.1 IP, while walking 47. -Missed some of 2004 and the entire 2005 year with injury (elbow surgery) -Career minor league stats (444 IP, 3.61 ERA, 188 BB, 362 Ks) Pitching information: -Fastball (high 80s to low 90s on average) -Hard sinker (has touched 94mph) -Slider -“Ground ball pitcher” -Was used only as a starter prior to 2006 when he moved into the bullpen 2006 season (first full season in two years) Player W L ERA G SV IP H R ER HR BB SO WHIP Daytona Cubs (A) 3 0 1.57 18 0 34 24 7 6 0 10 31 0.99 West Tenn (AA) 3 5 3.55 36 3 50 41 25 20 2 4 32 1.44 My personal view from the White Sox perspective: Carlos Vazquez is a player that Kenny Williams took a flier on possibly thinking his injury problems have retarded his growth and he could in fact be a "late bloomer." While Vazquez is a tad old for his level (expect him to start in Birmingham) to be considered a high-level prospect, he is still young overall and has missed an entire season and part of another giving him less development time. While his composite strikeout numbers are not that great for AA ball, he shows to have very good command and control, limits homers beautifully and doesn’t walk many batters. While Vazquez has 3 pitches, he has never been considered a top prospect and I would project him more as a lefty-handed relief specialist/setup guy rather as a potential starter on Chicago’s Southside. However, it would not shock me to see the White Sox try him out as a starter just to make sure. If Vazquez could put himself in Chicago within the next 2 or 3 years even as a viable relief option and the other player obtained in the Cotts deal (the hard throwing Aardsma) develops as we think he may, then this deal could prove to be a big winner for the White Sox. I would say that Carlos Vazquez does not have a huge upside, but if he can remain healthy it looks like he could be a safe bet to become part of the White Sox bullpen at some point in the future. The factors are there: He is a lefty, he throws pretty hard, he has multiple pitches, and has good control.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) Aardsma is a righty. It seems a few people think he throws with his left hand. Was the other guy we got from the Cubs a lefty? Damn...my bad...Loosk like Logan and Sisco compete in the pen to go with Matt.

This is a masterful trade....KU-freaking-DOS to Kenny. Gload is a solid, servicable player, but on a championship team merely bench fodder. This trade is eerily similiar to the Thronton/Borchard trade and we saw how wonderfully that one worked out. To get a young fire-balling lefty who was probably rushed by KC is awesome. I'd like to see what he can do starting down at Charlotte if Aardsma or Logan can take the 2nd lefty spot in the pen behind Matt. We have brought in a power arm lefty WHO IS still VERY YOUNG (what is he 23?)...Not shocked the big boys roughed him up some, he just needs to mature and develop. NO DOUBT the arm is there. I like this deal...A LOT... From baseball prospectus: Andy Sisco looks like the real deal. In his third shot at A ball in 2004, Sisco put up what can best be described as a mediocre line: 4.21 ERA/4.57 RA in 126 innings, 8.4 H/9, 9.6 SO/9 and 4.6 BB/9. The strikeout rate was strong but the walk rate was too high and he was giving up too many hits and walks at that low level. The Royals picked him up as the second overall pick of the Rule 5 draft and he surely hasn't disappointed. Andrew Sisco - RP LG IP H/9 BB/9 SO/9 HR/9 ERA RA VORP BABIP -------------------------------------------------------------------- MLB 58.7 7.67 5.68 9.51 0.61 2.61 2.76 19.9 .305 His walk rate is far too high still but with strong home-run and strikeout rates, he's able to get away with it. The lesson again is straightforward: you can get away with walking batters as long as you don't give up a lot of hits and as long as the hits you do give up don't go out of the park. PECOTA didn't think Sisco would keep the strikeout rate up after the jump from A ball to MLB, and it also didn't expect him to control the long ball as well as he has. Credit the strikeout rate to his tremendous stuff. As for the home-run rate, Kaufmann Stadium has played both as a hitters' park and pitchers' park in recent season, so it's hard to get an exact read on whether the park is affecting his HR rate.

Shoot, If I were the Mets I wouldn't even give up Pelfrey for Vazquez (I am very biased, I think Vazquez is a marginal, at best, pitcher). However, maybe they like the guy...

And after "the brawl" Eckstein and AJ were seen shooting the breeze having beers together.

I loved Freddy in our rotation....dude was a nails pitcher. He took the ball every day, was as durable as teflon, and after it appeared he lost his velocity came back with another secondary pitch that allowed him to regain command. His game 4 WS performance was a masterpiece and his name will live forever in White Sox history. Much luck to big Freddy in Philly and I am totally rooting for him to kick ass for the Phillies this year. Muchas gracias senor Garcia.
-
kenny sure made the right "trade" getting 2 mid level prospects for freddy garcia during a pitching starved offseason. Gio Gonzelez is not "mid level"...he immediately becomes our top pitching prospect in our entire system. Floyd is just a flier Kenny took on a kid that once was the Phillies top prospect, who IS ONLY 23 years old. I don't know if Floyd will pan out, but with another year of seasoning no doubt in my mind Gio will pan out.

I was SOOOOOO happy tonight when the Giants signed Bonds to a deal. I hate him and wanted him nowhere near this team. He is a great talent, but is a disgrace to the game of baseball in a myriad of ways...Let the folks in frisco have him. NEXT!!!

Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez

This trade is WORSE than the garcia deal unless Hirsch is also included. If we get Hirsch, Bucholz and Taveres for Garland + prospect then I'd jump it like Ashley Judd saying come hither to me, but for just the two...its a rapage...Garcia and Garland pitched us to WORLD TITLE in 2005...pitchers with that type of mettle don't grow on frigging trees...To quote Vince Lombardi (screw the Packers by the way), "What the hell is going on out here?" -

QUOTE(Sox It To Em @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:49 AM) http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4385643.html Holy f***. That sausage biscuit I ate this morning just ended up on my keyboard. What the hell is Kenny doiing? I don't mind trading an aging guy with worn tread on his tires, but Garland too? No way I do this unless Hirsch was included in some way.... -

QUOTE(Soxman72 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:24 AM) Didn't someone else mention the Gio will not become official as the PTBNL until after the rule 5 draft because he is not on the current 40 man. If this is true they can not flip Gio until the draft is over. Right? Correct. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) Here's my ideal move: Fields and Floyd for Baldelli, Sox re-sign Crede. I could go for this one. And if Anderson really matures into the player we think he can be, Baldelli could move to LF, Gio becomes a superstar, Fields strikes out too much, Floyd meltsdown in TB, Crede signs for life and plays his entire career in Chicago, and Scott Boras gets key to the city. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) It'll never happen. I hope like hell you're right....Garland, Uribe, and a "top youngster" for a slow, poor fielding yet good hitting SS? MAKES NO SENSE...hell, at this rate, Gavin Floyd may be our opening day starter. -

The White Sox are among a couple of teams this week that have contacted the Orioles about Miguel Tejada. The Angels weren't one of them, according to the report. The Orioles probably aren't trading Tejada, though the Sun speculates they could be interested in package including Jon Garland, Juan Uribe and a top youngster. It's just getting worse and worse.... -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) Haeger could probally nab crawford by himself no? No way man...the Rays would probably have to add a prospect.

QUOTE(PhilliesBuff @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) Imagine if McCarthy came to the majors and laid a total egg, went to the minors and laid an egg again. Thats what Floyd felt like to us. McCarthy DID LAY an egg his first time up...in 2005 he stunk it up, was sent down, came back and pitched great...this past year he was kinda all over the place. Brandon McCarthy is still considered an elite prospect because of his stuff and his age...Gavin Floyd has the same type of stuff and is the same age. Floyd probably has a better fastball, McCarthy has the better changeup, and their curveballs are both awesome. Floyd has some maturity issues I think that need to be balanced out some and mechanics are inconsistent, but he is a 23 year old pitching prospect...Im not prepared to call him trash. That being said, I do wish we could have gotten a little more...this was a trade you'd see from a team rebuilding and not one contending. -
Tampa Bay has said Crawford is untouchable. If you want Rays OFers, Baldelli is the guy and I question giving up but so much for him considering his injury past and considering Anderson isn't washed up at 23 years old. IF BOTH panned out, that would be great, but there is some risk there. I'd be fine giving up Gio or Floyd and something else for Baldelli. THe guy is great when healthy, but CC isn't an option it appears.

PhilliesBuff ... Why did you people care if some minor league guy stayed or went? I could see if he was nestled in your rotation and failing miserably, but he wasn't there. He was just some prospect guy, everyone has them. We probably should have gotten more for Freddy, but he has a lot of innings under his belt, is in the last year of his contract, and his days of having a 93 mph fastball are LONG GONE....he is taking an 87, 88 mph fastball to Philly, which in the NL may be Cy Young material. -

Bonds would be such a great move...NOT....we'd have the slowest team in major league baseball history...maybe we could get Jermaine Dye to hit leadoff...I hate Bonds as a person and I dont know if the Sox clubhouse would be able to accomodate his recliner. THe dude is a freaking cancer to a team....he's a waste...leave in in Frisco. -

I read where the Sox turned down a McCarthy for Baldelli deal. Possible one of these pitchers would be moved to Tampa Bay for Baldelli? -

QUOTE(Pods20 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:53 PM) I like it! Gio had a great year last year and i felt he was our best prospect last year... so garcia and rowand for Thome Not quite...we also gave them Dani Haigwood...not quite as electirc as Gio, but a solid top 10 prospect, at least in our org.
