Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez
kwolf68 replied to BobDylan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Floyd is not worthless...if he is, so is Brian Anderson, they both are 23 and they both faired poorly in first taste of major league action. 23 years old...Floyd looks to me like the Brian Anderson of pitching, which could be crap or could still be damn good. -
Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez

If Rowand isn't involved, I don't like the deal. If he is, I like the deal. ESPN said nothing about Rowand. THing that makes no sense is that was one of the guys we wanted all along? I didnt think we were dumping a SP just to dump him. Im confused. -
Hirsch, Lidge and Burke? LMMFAO...I'd do backflips to get that bucket of talent. It won't happen though. Houston is probably lowballing us like Philly and offering up Mike Lamb and Willie Tavares...put Burke and Hirsch in there or get to walking.

Rumor:Garcia to Philles for Arow + Madson/Floyd
kwolf68 replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have no problem with going over Brian Anderson's head, but how much of an improvement is Rowand? I loved the guy, but his defense is no better and his bat is only marginally better. Further, Rowand has probably hit his peak while Anderson still hasn't (we hope) reached his ceiling. Anderson was ONE reason we dealt Rowand, we dealt Chris Young, because he was a 5-tool, can't miss prospect. He struggled last year, badly...he was brutally bad most of the season with the bat, but in the end THAT BAT was NOT WHY the Sox didn't make the playoffs. NO, the cause of our demise rests with a pitching staff that sucked most of the year. Anderson probably helped that staff by making excellent plays in the field. Again, I would like to deal a SP, but the only way we should go for a CF is if it is in the Vernon Wells category. Giving up too much for a player who is only slightly better than Anderson is foolish. The Phillies trade would not make it through my table unless a 2nd prospect was thrown into the mix (Michael Bourne). But for a couple of "fading prospects" like Madsden or Floyd and a marginal upgrade (if that) in CF over Anderson (who could actually IMPROVE before his 24th birthday) there would be no way they'd get any pitcher who dealt donuts in a clinching World Series game that is as durable as teflon, who may have found "that other" pitch late last year that will add many more great years to his career. The more I think about this deal, the crappier it gets. Tell Gillick to pizz off Kenny. -
Just to put an idea on value...The Rays offered Baldelli to Philly for Cole Hamels. That gives you an idea what we'd need to give up.

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) owens and broadway for rocco. Rays would never go for that I don't think. Although I'd do it if they wanted and we could still turn one of our SPs into a replacement prospect for Broadway and other stuff. I am a HUGE fan on the DevilRays OF players (Crawford, Rocco, Delmon Young) and if we can get one of them it would be vast upgrade in CF or LF.

This is such crap...I won't even dignify this trash with any analyis on why Bonds would be a horrific acqusition for the Sox.

Williams working on extension for Buehrle/Garcia

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) If this was to happen, it would equate to: Garcia, Gio, Haigwood for Thome, Madson/Floyd I would think KW could get more for Garcia. When put in this context it nearly makes me vomit. -
Rumor:Garcia to Philles for Arow + Madson/Floyd
kwolf68 replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No way KW will make this deal. the Sox are holding the high card here and the Phillies are acting like they do...if Philly wants Garcia we should talk, but its going to take more than a 26 year old pitcher (though solid) and a decent CF...for a starting pitcher, Gillick will have to up the ante'. Latest is both NY teams are eyeing Buehrle...someone will no doubt start a post on this The Yankees and Mets are showing interest in Mark Buehrle, according to MLB.com. MLB.com offered up a rumor last night that the Mets and White Sox had discussed swapping Buehrle and Lastings Milledge, but none of the New York or Chicago papers followed up on it, suggesting there wasn't much to it. The Yankees have Melky Cabrera to offer if the White Sox believe he can handle center field. Buehrle will become a free agent after making $9.5 million next season. -
Rumor:Garcia to Philles for Arow + Madson/Floyd

Id like to snag one more prospect from them (Michael Bourne, haha) or try to get them to throw in Matt Smith, a lefty who was solid in relief for them last year in limited time. -
Rumor:Garcia to Philles for Arow + Madson/Floyd
kwolf68 replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Latest I read was Rowand and Eric Madsden or Gavin Floyd for Freddy Garcia.... at least Phillie is willing to do that. I don't know if Floyd or Madsden will translate over to the AL, both a good prospects and Floyd is still very young, but I hate trading proven goods like Garcia and Id rather deal Mr Basketcase anyway. -
I have a question: Is Gload worse than Pods in LF?
-
We better load up if we deal Crede....we go from one of the best 3rd basemen in the league to big fat question mark. Know that I like Fields, he's a great kid and in time will be a solid ML 3rd baseman, but didn't we go through this last year in CF? A deal to move Crede better be stacked coming back...
-
Why would the Devil Rays want 3 outfielders???? None of which have proven they can hit big league pitching.
-
There is a link on Rotoworld where Gammons speculates that Manny Ramirez may be headed to Chicago for 3 players...
-
What about Bob? I'd rather have him.
-
This trade proposal is th emost assinine thing ever written...Uribe, Pods, + Prospects? The editor should have balled this bile up and told Rogers to go back to his desk and write something more plausible.

QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) KW worries about making the Sox better, not what happens on the other side of town. Any deal with Baltimore had better begin with Bedard otherwise they have nothing we need. Agree, but there is no way in hades the Orioles would deal a talent like Erik Bedard. No way...even they can't be that stupid.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) Considering Garland's value, age, and the market for starting pitchers, it's not unreasonable to expect two good SP prospects and Massett (because the Sox seem to like him). This package for Garland hardly seems to be the blockbuster I'd expect from all the supposed teams calling Williams. Enter Thomas Diamond? And John Danks? You'd have to make this move, but damn just wish it didn't have to be Garland.
-
If Aardsma can join the pen then maybe that's a thought. Re Danks: One of the best curveballs in all of minor league baseball from what I understand and he also throws with power...Maybe a nastier version of Barry Zito (in time). He is also a 4 pitch pitcher...he is improving his sinker and has been working on a change-up to go with his 1 and 2. Danks would be easily our top pitching prospect, easily.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) The Freddy Garcia your talking about had a 94 MPH fastball and a 3.87 ERA in 2005. The Freddy Garcia now has 86 MPH junk, and ended the season with a 4.54 ERA. Your logic is because Vazquez was not part of the World Series team, he is garbage... The logic makes perfect sense. What it means is Freddy can be counted on when the pressure is on to make big pitches and win big HUGE games. At the first sign of trouble Vazquez flames like a torch. Vazquez is just the type of pitcher who is .500, because he has .500 talent...maybe the "talent" he lacks is mental, but it's clearly there. You wouldn't bet a penny that Vazquez could ever succeed on the same stage where Freddy has. No chance in hell Vazquez could EVER pitch a World Series shutout...he doesn't have the moxie, the toughness to do it...Freddy does. By the way, Garcia was hitting low 90s late in the season...he had a dead arm in the middle part of the season, but really got it back together late + he added another pitch that made him, at times, unhittable. He has a long off-season to refresh and he will rebound...the guy is a winner, because HE HAS WON before...you can't say the same thing for Vazquez. No way do I trust our team with Vazquez over Garcia...if we can unload Vazquez and get talent for him, we should bust a move and do it soon. Texas would be fools to get that guy...Vazquez would have a 6+ era in Texas.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) I'd been stunned if KW moved any of relievers he would deem as quality pitchers. They want to get back to having a nasty bullpen. I think KW learned a lesson last offseason when he virtually blew off the bullpen. I agree in part Dick...IF one of those boys were a lefty. The two RPs rumored to be coming from Texas are righties...I guess the thinking is Riske is gone and Masset could take his place, but who replaces Cotts? Otsuka is clearly better but is a righty. Do they think Logan can double up with Matt to hold the fort down from the left side? Would they maybe use Danks in relief the way they worked McCarthy (an idea I dont like)? That is my only worry with this deal...In fact, if we could get CJ Wilson instead of Masset I'd probably like that deal more.
-
Danks immediately becomes our #1 pitching prospect if we get him. I would do whatever I could to land him...wouldn't mind nabbing Thomas Diamond either (he's in AA right now I think), but that's probably too much bounty to get. I am perplexed at the mention of TWO RELIEF righties...Otsuka, Mac and Jenks???? If this deal goes down, Kenny isn't done...one of our closer-talent righties would be moved...considering the market for quality relief pitchers, it's not a bad idea to really corner the market there and then go load up somewhere.

QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Am I the only one who doesn't want to trade Garcia? This is a "win now" team and Freddy still has some years left. If I'm dealing someone to make room for McCarthy, it's going to be Vazquez, who I never liked in the first place. Having said that, I'm not sure I want to trade any of the pitchers until we KNOW that McCarthy is the real deal. Not to mention Contreras's back could go out at any minute and we don't know if Buerhle will bounce back. I guess what I'm saying is that you can never have enough pitching in baseball and I don't want to give any of it up (unless I'm getting some in return, as was rumored - and then shot down by KW - in the Garcia to LA deal). Im in with you. I like Freddy and he was part of our World TItle team...Vazquez is a waste...good arm, mush brain. Freddy pitched us to a 1-0 World Series title...Vazquez could never do that in a zillion years. Deal Javy...get talent and let Freddy pitch that new fork ball for us next year.
-
Get rid of Javy...he is a mediocre pitcher and always will be....I'd like to keep at least a few of the players from our World Series team and Garcia really found a new groove with his fork ball late last year...Keep FG
