QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) According to my source, this Vasquez guy isn't a prospect at all. Neither is Aardsma...We may have well just released Cotts.
-
He already has, a quiet move that I really like Luis Terrero, signed up for a 1 year deal. He is 26 and plays a very good defensive center field. While he flamed in his short time in Baltimore, he was a very solid hitter in AAA last year. I have said all along we need contigencies for Anderson. Whether or not you think Anderson is good you have to admit we need to protect ourselves there. While Terrero seems to be a free-swinger (K:BB isn't good) and a head-case, he was once considered a 5-tool top prospect and if we can ressurect his career he could be a guy to look at combined with Owens and Sweeney.

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) Agreed. I don't want to see anyone go but if a move will bring us a stronger pitching staff or Ichiro or Crawford then I am for it. This lineup would just be sick. I know I'm dreaming but hey, it's the offseason (for the Sox) CF Crawford RF Suzuki 1B Kornerko DH Thome 3B Crede CA Pierzynski 2B Iguchi SS Uribe LF Sweeney Wow....Better hope we don't face many lefties.

These Brian Anderson debates are quite comical. Personally, I don't think he's going to be a star hitter. YES, I do believe in time he will be a decent hitter, generally in the mid .200s (.245-.260)....give or take bad and good years. If he plays spectacular defense I am OK with that. However, for much of the first half of the season and then again toward the end of the year (after his little streak) he was as close to an automatic out as we've ever had. That being said, I believe we should commit to him, tell him CF is his job and just go play baseball. Don't platoon him all the time, plan to play him in 140+ games next year...BUT, we must have someone on the roster who can adequately man the CF position should Anderson not be ready to do better than .200 for most of the year. I think he'll be much better next year, but no one in here can guarantee that so we have to have someone somewhere either in AAA or on the major league roster we can use if Brian isn't what some of us think he is. He's a good kid who works his tail off and all accounts and scouting reports suggest he is a prime talent...that is why we need to commit to him, but also do what's best for the team and have a capable replacement.

The Phillies have a couple middle relievers I like a lot. I like Matt Smith as a lefty setup guy a lot.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) How many are in Crede's class? Not many... Not many. Very few. In fact, who is? A-Rod sure, but Crede has him in defense? Chavez, but Crede has him with the bat. Dealing Crede would be a horrible move unless we got like a blow-away offer
-
Fields isn't in Crede's class, not even close. Fields is a good kid, who does work hard and I don't doubt he'll be talented, but if we put Fields at 3rd next year it is probably Brian Anderson all over again just with not as good defense. Crede must stay in Chicago unless a contigency for Fields is brought in. And the price for Crede should be a king's ransom...you don't find guys who can pick it like him everyday.
-
So Juan Uribe is in a contract year next year? If we do keep him, he'll probably do quite well.
-
Frank Thome is DA MAN. Kudos Big guy...wish you could have stayed in Chicago.
-
Yea last year was it for me too....I finally got a World Series and Ill never forget that, the guys brought a lot of people a lot of joy. Time to move onto the Bears, which isn't going half bad right about now. I don't care about the NBA and maybe one day the Hawks will come back and get a cup.

Maybe its just me, but I don't want Garcia dealt...it appears he found something in the last 6 weeks with his new splitter. The guy was damned near unhittable. I don't think we can AFFORD to deal him, because we have issues otherwise -Contreras (Durability is a concern and was very spotty after coming off IR) -Buehrle (Horrific season of epic proportions. We all expect a solid rebound, but this year was terrible) -Vazquez (Showed promise down the stretch, but it's still Javy Vazquez, in other words a guy you just can't count on to win a big one) -Garland (safe money here. Back to back 18 winners...He'll dup it next year) -McCarthy (prospect. Promising starts in '05 and a very promising start down the end, but far from proven goods) We can't deal Garcia...dude has been our best pitcher in the last month. Tell me we are going to deal him and you better give me a stud package in return.

This has to be a joke. It's the Detroit Tigers job to win the division for the Detroit Tigers. It isn't the White Sox job to go out and perform for Detroit. Detroit is the over-rated, over-achieving team that was exposed in the 2nd half of the season. Their lineup is pedestrian, they don't manufacture runs, and their starting pitching isn't looking so Seaver-like these days. They'll be dispatched quickly next week. They have only themselves to blame for losing this division. Had the Sox had even a mediocre 2nd half then Detroit would be gearing up for vacation...they should be happy they are even in the playoffs, short-lived thought it may be.

Freddy should not be made available. I think we should listen to offers, but we are going to need to be blown away to move Freddy. Say the Mets want him... I would take nothing less than a major league ready player, Mike Pelfrey and Carlos Gomez. Gomez, while a great young talent is in AA, Pelfrey is still farily unproven so they'd have to deal us something else with GOmez and Pelfrey...maybe we'd get another stud prospect. Garcia is proven goods, and the guy is far from washed up. Freddy eats innings, is durable, and wins...I dont want him dealt...but if someone wants him, they need to pay the fiddler. Who the heck knows what we are going to do...I want more speed in the order yes..A left fielder and a contigency for Anderson in center...If he falters next year we need to replace him. I'd like to have a speedy shortstop as well, but Uribe is fine.

5 innings, 1 hit, 8 strikeouts. Nice job Brandon. Like Stewart as well.
-
I thought Kenny Williams wanted us to get YOUNGER and FASTER. Gonzalez gets us OLDER and SLOWER. Horrid idea.
-
This bullpen is a fiasco.
-
Terrible. Come on kid, do it.
-
Come on AJ...lets take the lead...hell, we may not get there, but at least go down fighting damnit.
-
Hey now....trying to work back into this game.
-
Way to go Hermie....Nice to see that.
-
Good gosh...just like ringing a bell. We score, we give it back. Pathetic McCarthy and I've been one of your biggest fans in here, but this is getting ridiculous.
-
Two out single in the first. Leadoff double, ground out and sac fly in the 2nd ... Good job hitters....now if Alexander just hadn't run in that touchdown we'd be in good shape. Still early.
-
This season is going to leave a really bad taste in my mouth, not because they didn't make the playoffs, but because they played absolutely horrific, uninspired baseball over the past two months.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) I wouldnt say motion on the bases etc was the problem. Just look to last night when we had a lead off double, and couldnt even get him to third. We need to play with the mentality that 1 run is all we need again. It places pressure on the other team, and gives our pitchers chances to throw more strikes. Ergo, we need people who can bunt, who can hit the other way....too often big boppers do neither worth a damn. I liked the Cardinals teams of the 1980s...they didn't have a ton of power, but had a couple guys in there that could go deep, a bunch of speed up top and great pitching....that sounds like the plan for me and is similiar to what the Sox did in 2005.

I love Michael Young, but we don't have what the Rangers would be asking. Garcia won't cut it. It would take at least one elite pitching prospect, something we don't have (unless McCarthy counts) and 2 other major league ready players (Garcia+McCarthy+Sweeney may get it done, but get real). Further, for the price it would cost us to get Young, we could get so much more and add speed to the team. To give up what we would need to for Young we could get a very capable LF, SS (both with speed) and a bullpen guy. Michael Young still doesn't solve our pen problems, our leadoff hitter problems and our speed problems. It's a silly move to even think about.
