  1. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 03:05 PM) HILLARIOUS!!!!!11 Giolito is 23 years old and has had his mechanics completely torn down and rebuilt. I know it ruins your Saturday for him to give up two runs in the 3rd inning, but it helps no one to remove him in the third inning. Relax dude. I don't want the bullpen up EVER. They stink (except for Nate) .... Gio is struggling but it's a joke to put in the pen this early, unless I want to see a softball score come across the screen.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 03:03 PM) Fastball and even that has bad command Yup.
  3. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 03:02 PM) Time to get the pen up? For what? The circus.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 03:01 PM) Pitching is horrendous so far this season. At this point, Giolito is a one pitch pitcher. The curve is an urban legend Which pitch?
  5. Simply terrible execution on the mound to walk the bases loaded just to get to Miggy. Terrible. Time to get the pen up.
  6. Gio looks terrible after a fairly encouraging first couple innings.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 02:23 PM) Has to stop taking first pitch fastball strike as much as he has. 7 straight at bats this series he took first pitch strike. One of my arguments for trying him in a different spot in the lineup. That was a high pitch, but it was also a strike. Davidson goes down on what looked like a meatball (ie, offspeed up in zone)....Sox heading for another 12 or 13 strikeouts again today.
  8. Good top of first from Gio....a little scattered, but overall has good movement on his stuff today.
  9. I suspect it's more than likely a few of these guys won't be in WS the entire year.
  10. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 03:37 PM) I think the one they should try extending now is Rodon. His talent is phenomenal and he has ace potential, but he has so much uncertainty to him right now. I know he's a Boras client, but this might be a time you could get him to agree to a team friendly extension in exchange for some certainty to his future. AMEN! I have watched baseball since the 1970s and let me tell you Carlos Rodon is the first man I've ever seen throw a slider that makes me think of Steve Carlton. You keep people like that if at all possible.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 10:51 PM) The thing about Moncada is he?€™s a former #1 prospect, the tools are off the charts, and he was one the centerpiece players in the Sale deal. Add to it there are a lot young players that come up and are just good- Correa, Lindor, Seager, Bryant, etc. At some point, it?€™s gotta be the Sox turn to have one of these great young players that are just great at baseball. That all said, it?€™s six games, they got home at 2am last night, and it was probably the coldest weather he?€™s ever played in. He just needs to play, keep a positive attitude, and good things are going to happen. Totally agree flavum. I know others gripe a lot about Yoan, my take was only what is best for the kid. Sending him down to AAA is NOT AN OPTION and I categorically oppose that on every level. I was wondering if moving him "to another spot" (lets face it every spot is down from leadoff) to see if he has a different focus. That's all I was saying. I've seen proven stars moved around in a lineup depending on matchups. I don't think it's sacrilegious to think Yoan may need some looks in another spot in the lineup. I am NOT saying that SHOULD be done, only brought it up as a point to consider. My take is not to imply Yoan is a bust or needs to be sent down...just looking for ways to shake him up a bit. Maybe he's too tight. I trust Ricky that he's mentally A-OK and thus if he keeps him at the top of the order I am TOTALLY fine with it. It may in fact be the right move. I was just offering constructive ideas outside of the Yoan sucks, he's a bust, send him down, he has a high K rate non sense. My view of Moncada has not changed from any of the posts I've had in here about him...he has superstar potential, period. It may take time to realize that, but he is a great talent. Anyone who has watched a modicum of baseball can see he can be special.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 08:29 PM) Haven't noticed him doing anything different than last year Maybe, maybe not. I honestly didn't watch much Sox baseball last year as I didn't have Extra Innings. I got it this year. At any rate, just trying to conjure up ideas. That said, if Yoan is rolled out there as leadoff going forward all good. But I do know sometimes if you lighten the mental load things relax. Though I honestly don't see any good alternate options in the leadoff spot.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 08:29 PM) A 23 year old Cuban playing in 35 degrees and snow. Not surprising it wasn’t going to be a stellar day for him. Yolmer is from Venezuela and had an awesome game. This isn't even a thing if Leury doesn't go bonehead on us
  14. In time, I believe Yoan will be a 20-20 guy with elite defense. Anything over .260 is nice....anything over .285 and you probably have an all start on your hands. The talent and instincts are there. I just hope the kid isn't trying to be "the savior"....just go play ball.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 08:25 PM) The most important thing for Moncada is to just play. Way too early to move him down in the order. Is moving him down in the order not playing? I think a case could be made to move him down from a mental standpoint. I get the development aspect and if you'll see my posts I have not thrown the kid under the bus, I love his potential. But IS HE putting too much pressure on himself to be a perfect leadoff hitter? Maybe letting by great pitches he can handle in an attempt to "work the count", instead of smashing the first good pitch you see?
  16. Honestly, this team is where the should be... FIVE starting pitching performances mostly wasted by: -horrific defense (Engel in Toronto, Leury today) -gas can bullpen (today was promising with D-Farq, Avil', and Nate, then it came apart) Yea we can beat up a 22 year old kid, but this is major league baseball, success doesn't come easy. Only thing I'd maybe do with Yoan is move him down in the order to let him regroup and hit...see the ball, hit the ball. I think he's "thinking" too much at the plate in trying to be the perfect leadoff hitter. He may not be a leadoff hitter.
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 08:14 PM) Delmonico taking one for the club. Excellent hitting approach there.
  18. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 08:10 PM) So....what was the point of this pen that Rick assembled? Demoralizing the team as much as possible? I think Avilan, Soria and Jones should stay, but move Jones to the closers role. EVERY ONE else send down and callup new people though after his last two games I'd like D-Farq stick around with a short leash.
  19. Sox have played 6 games and have gotten credible to excellent starts in 5 of the 6....so there is that. The pen is a mess.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 07:36 PM) Leury messed up mentally. It happens when it's 20 degrees out. Thanks, MLB for letting us play today. The weather wasn't a problem when we were up 7-3...he has to pull up, keep the ball in front and keep the lead. It was dumb...DUMB, it would have been dumb had they been playing this game at the arctic circle
  21. One of the worst plays I've ever seen in a major league game. DUMB
  22. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 10:28 PM) tonight's last three relievers looked fantastic. Soria and Jones yes....Farq was good tonight, but he hardly qualifies as fantastic. The pen sucks. They have 2 guys (and Soria is generally meh) and then a bunch of mo mos out there, sometimes they do ok, but just as often they are gas cans. ANY pitcher in that pen I hope does well enough to warrant a TDL for prospect.
  23. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 10:11 PM) Great game. Loving the power and the bullpen looks fantastic. This is gonna be such a weird year. The division sucks so badly that if we overperform we will never be out of it. We have to stick to the plan and keep Ken "All In" Williams from whispering in Reinsdorf's ear if this team keeps winning... Does not compute.
