  1. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 05:47 PM) THERE WE GO. Starting to take this tank seriously. Sign Holland back for 10mil and have him pitch complete games for the rest of the season.
  2. A sign of the times to come I hope. Yoan is starting to get it.
  3. Would love it but very doubtful. Three of the best and closest kids the Sox have are Macada, TA, and Rodon. What do you have with them? Though TA has played very well of late he has scuffled at times badly this year, Moncada is hitting in the .100s and Rodon has battled more nagging injuries and is done. This is what makes prospects so much of a wildcard. You can't predict unproven players will have anything more than a cursory impact on the big club, especially when you're talking about 7 or 8 of them (which it would take 7-8 prospects having healthy, productive 2018 for the Sox to be respectable). That's really a pipedream. I think 1 or 2 will blossom next year, another couple will be up and down showing glimpses but still needing seasoning, a few more yet will be proven not ready and then you'll get the case of the nagging injury, or worse (see Burdi, Zach). Until you prove it in the majors you've done nothing and thus such projections based off these type of players (as over the moon as I am about these players and there POTENTIAL) are fools gold.
  4. This has been a really great s***ty year....We are now possibly witnessing 3/5 of our future rotation...it's very clear Lopez, Giolito and Rodon have a real chance at being very good MLB pitchers. Obviously, the bullpen is still a ways off as well as our position talent is still a couple years out perhaps, but it's really nice to be excited about the future. Sox just need to develop the talent pool properly and be patient, but this team has a chance to be special down the road....I'll be heading back to Chicago next summer and plan to take in some games and I'd like to see some good kids.... my first Sox game I saw ever was in 1983...in Baltimore.....despite that beastly rotation of Hoyt, Bannister, Dot and Britt....I got to see Randy friggin Martz start a game. I'd like my 'next first game' be watching Rodon or Lucas or even Kopech pitching.
  5. Pitching can be turned into (if needed) hitting. Never turn down good arms.
  6. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 08:06 AM) No walks in his first start is good. 3 home-runs is bad. I know it. I thought he should have pitched a no hitter. To me, the home runs are of no concern and will be cleaned up as he learns the mental side of pitching at the big league level. The command was impressive and he has good stuff. This kid will be a solid middle rotation starter down the road, at worst a lower end rotation starter, which will probably mean a deep rotation.

    Tebow

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 12:03 AM) I really don't understand the fascination with someone who is not good at a sport. Might as well ask the Kardasians too. Maybe people think if Tebow goes to their team, God will tip the scales a bit.
  8. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 11:17 PM) Abreu and Davidson in THE 9TH! Sox come back from a 6-0 deficit to win 7-6. We can still win this thing !
  9. Another night on the White Sox masochism parade. This too shall pass (like a kidney stone)
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) That's a great trade for Minnesota. Littell is quite good He is, but because he doesn't throw 100 miles per hour some considered him "expendable". Like someone else said on this (or some other) thread all Littell does is send batters back to the dugout. If Tom Glavine were a prospect today he'd wouldn't even make a team's Top 20 list, but few were better than that guy.
  11. Yankees give up two kids coming off MAJOR injuries, with 1, the pitcher Kaprelien appearing injury proned. Early returns is it's a good deal for the Yankees, but if those 2 kids get over their injuries and Mateo can become what many think he will become, the As have 3 bonafide talents here. A good trade for both I think. I like the top end of the deal the Sox got for Q, Eloys pushes the Sox take over the top in my view. Had this been the return for Q I'd have balked, too much risk, despite the young talent, for a better more controlled pitcher. Overall, a solid TDL for all involved.
  12. I have been a Sox fan since the 1970s and I can't remember a year where the team was so bad, yet I was still so excited. Of course the bloom will be off this rose in a couple years if the kids don't turn this thing around, but holy moly Hahn has stocked up the system...now...WE WAIT!!!
  13. Great story. Jake sounds like a winner to me.
  14. QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 05:38 PM) So there is always the discussion on if the White Sox could sign Harper or Machado, but what about a trade for Stanton? The reason I think this would be interesting is because the White Sox probably wouldn't have to give up as many prospects as usual, solely because of the amount of money they would have to take on. Something like: White Sox get: Giancarlo Stanton. Marlins get: Eloy Jimenez, Zack Collins, Dane Dunning, Alec Hansen, and Spencer Adams.
  15. Neat list. Sox have many legit SP candidates coming up ... some may end up in the pen (Burdi, Fulmer). Others (Jordan Stephens) may surprise. Either way there are a ton of options there. OF looks good, but not overly deep yet. Obviously, Robert/Eloy/Rutherford will draw raves, but after that there are questions. Basabe will boom or bust and players like Tilson, and Polo look like 4th outfielder types. So as long as 2 of the top 3 make it the Sox are probably in good shape in the OF. The IF is where the Sox still lack depth. Moncado is a stud to be at 2nd, and TA should continue develop at SS, but there is zero depth behind either. Moncado could play 3rd, but the lack of depth at 2nd means that's where I see him going. So while the rebuild looks good, there is no depth up the middle period. Any one of these guys could get injured or not pan out so moving on adding something up the middle wouldn't hurt. There are also questions abound at C and the corners, but with potential answers. I am convinced Collins can hit, but am not convinced he can catch at the MLB level. Right now we have Sheets and Burger projected at 1 and 3 respectively. Not sure yet. I believe former-top-prospect-starting-to-figure-it-out-maybe Davidson could loom as one of the few holdovers to be a part of the future. For 1, 3 and DH you are looking at burger, sheets, davidson, and that's not to even mention Avi or Jose. Their long term futures in Chicago, like Davison, could be in or out. Any number of them could DH. I think 1, maybe 2, could be here in 2-3 years when the Sox are really rolling. The Sox are overall probably OK at the corners/DH especially if Collins transitions from catcher. That would leave a huge void at C. This is where a F/A would help, preferably a Fisk type who can mold young pitchers. Then figure the Sox will add a blue chip in the draft, depending on where you could see more questions being answered Strengths- Pitching, easily. The Sox are loaded with great arms with no less than 11 with starting pitching upside projections. Two or three are of elite status. The mix of the remaining will fill in rotation or goto the pen. A couple further (Burdi) project to short relief. If a couple 2nd tier OF prospects develop behind the Big 3 the Sox OF looks very promising. Weakness-Overall middle infield depth and legit defensive/pitch handling catcher. The corners remain a bit of a question mark but overall not in bad shape with Sheets, Burger, the three holdovers mentioned and someone like Delmonico could provide further corner infield depth. The draft should give more talent and depth and never know what else Hahn will do. I'd like to see another 2nd/SS added to the pipeline, a + defensive catcher at minimum and then I think we're damn close.
  16. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) From everything I read about him it seems more like high risk/cieling-of-a-#4-starter reward. Perhaps and that's sorta along the lines of what I sense. But to hear he totally dominates when he is locked in tells me the potential is there....potential to be a legit ML arm or potential to be assistant coach at PoDunk High School as gym teacher.
  17. Perfect example of high risk/high reward kid. If he stays healthy and is coached up you may have a legit middle rotation starter with this one. OR, we'll never hear from him after today. 14) Ian Clarkin, LHP, Grade B-/C+: Age 21, posted 3.31 ERA in 98 innings in High-A with 72/30 K/BB; missed last six weeks of the season with torn knee meniscus; missed all of 2015 with elbow problems; when healthy shows low-90s fastball, above-average change-up and two different breaking pitches; can dominate when his command is on but injury time has slowed his development to some extent; could get buried in this system if health problems continue. ETA 2019.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) Then it's Kahnle for Rutherford. But Kahnle for Rutherford is highway robbery for the Sox. Kahnle was worth something good, but Rutherford is a really good prospect. Rutherford at one time was an ELITE prospect, many projected him #1 in his draft year. That said, he does not help the Yankees for a couple years, if he ever does make the show. They got two key relief pieces to add to their pen and got a guy who can hit some homers. The Sox have a very good prospect that still has never played a day above A ball. YES, I think he's got a chance to be good...I really see him in LF eventually. But to me this was a win/win trade ...Sox got future assets, some or all of which won't pan out and the Yankees got immediate help from two bullpen pitchers who have done a good job this year. I suspect they'll continue to do well in NY.
  19. People down on this trade are looking at it in comparing to Q, Eaton and Sale. NO CHANCE to land anything comparable to elite starting pitchers. You move 2 costly players, one who who hits about .200. Yes, we did add in a player who may be figuring it out, but at 28 years old in middle relief, not sure how much real value he had. This was NOT a fleecing by the Sox, they landed none of the Yankees prized pieces, but Rutherford is still the type of player Hahn is going for....high upside!! The other two players in the deal look to either be headed for washout city OR maybe Hahn strikes on them. Clarkin has been marred by injuries, but has been pretty healthy this year and is having his strongest show to date. If he gets his injuries sorted out who knows. Polo is a "nothing" prospect who now finds himself in AA, hitting just under .300 with 25 steals with the ability to play all over the OF. No I don't think this was as a home run for Hahn, but he also wasn't trading elite cost controlled players like Q. Not earth-shattering move, but I think a solid one overall and fits the rebuild plan perfectly.
  20. Yes, this is just what I was thinking...Sox are in a full rebuild, still in the early stages, loading up on high end prospects, so naturally we should "buy". I think the Sox should think about trading for Carlos Quintana, a nice controllable arm with a proven track record.
  21. WoW the Braves...gave the Sox an absolute truckload and still at the top.
  22. Good job Hahn. But I also think it was a good deal by Theo. Cubs are trying to make a run, they got a terrific SP for the next couple years. Sox got futures, 1 elite, 1 close to elite and 2 meh, but some potential. This is what we had hoped for. I am not really watching much Sox baseball, rather keeping up with it, because I know most of the guys won't be around in 2 years. Seem to be more interested what is happening in North Carolina or Alabama these days. Future is bright, but it still has to come together. Eloys, Robert and Moncado will be somewhere at the top.middle of our order one day. Don't stop now boys!!! Got more piece to parse.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) If you get an offer for a #1 or 2 starter for Rodon, you move him. If not, you move forward with him. Why would anyone offer this for Rodon? Even at his absolute best Rodon could never be more than a #1 starter, no one can. You don't give up this guy, high 90s fastball and a Steve Carlton-esque slider. If he could stay healthy, put it together he can be a huge part of the rebuild in Chicago longer term.
  24. Who with better knowledge can detail the difference in getting the #1 versus getting the #4 pick in the draft. Is there a big drop off from the prospective #1 and #4?
  25. I'm a White Sox fan, I want them to win no matter what. If they lose, and move for more young specs that's OK too. All told, I am enjoying this season.
