What a joke. We're trying to move an aging, high tread worn veteran that still possesses good talent and the ability to help someone while getting younger and building for the future and the freaking Orioles want part of that future? I say never say never...but it would take a king's ransom. I mean a ridiculous overpay.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:52 AM) Keep in mind that Olt's stock dropped between pre-season rankings and now. He wouldn't be #2 anymore. True True, but Edwards is rising up the charts. The Cubs are banking on Olt and Grimm becoming immediate players on their big league team. I don't think either are that great. The Rangers have been waiting on Olt for what seems like forever. Are the Sox looking for the same or are they willing to bring in kids that will need another year or two of seasoning. I think Peavy is better than Garza, but he is also injury prone so their values may actually be similar. I suspect the Sox will get 3-4 prospect for Peavy with 2 of them being low minors players with good 'tools' and a nice ceiling (but could also bust) and a couple other 'solid' prospects. I don't think we get anyone's top 1 or 2 prospecct. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:15 AM) It would be absurd for Peavy to start tonight. We'd knock down his value 5% or so by starting him. I suspect Hahn will knock down his demands and settle for a Garza like package. I didn't figure Peavy to bring a top 50 prospect. The Cubs got the Rangers #2, #5, and #14 (and the #14 guy may end up being the best of the 3) prospects in that trade. Now I'll admit a couple are a bit older for prospect status, but if the Sox could put two Top 5 specs out of a good organization and another just outside the top 10 I'd take it. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 12:32 PM) Just read a trade deadline chat from CBSSports that Heyman tweeted. It was mentioned that he could see the Red Sox trading Allen Webster. Wonder if Hahn has asked about him as part of a package. I suspect this is a player the Red Sox would very much move. Webster doesn't project as an ace starter, but certainly has the skills and makeup to be a solid middle of the rotation pitcher, and pretty soon. Webster would be part of a package I'd assume. -

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) Would Middlebrooks, Ranaudo, and Brentz be enough in people's eyes as a return for Peavy? Risky I think. I'd like more. -
I'm ready for a bunch of deals just to get some new blood in here...I'm reading Bears notes in freaking July and that's not right.

Young talent and lots of it. The Sox have got to start rebuilding their farm. It'a amazing we've gotten as much use out of it as we did. Kenny Williams did a lot of good things, leaving the farm system in good shape wasn't one of them.
-
Lets live with it folks. Chris Sale is an amazing pitcher. For old timers...how does he compare to Steve Carlton? He's THAT freaking good.

WSI ... lol. I got banned for what I can't remember, but it was incredibly ridiculous and came here and much more enjoy this site.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 07:39 AM) In the comments section of that article, a fan suggested SS Sardinas, OFer Lewis Brinson, and RHP Neil Ramirez for Pence or Soriano. If they were to offer that for Rios, that would be a nice return. They are the #2, 12, and 14 prospects for Texas. I'd really like Sardinas in a Rios trade. No chance they move all 3 of those kids for Rios. I could see negotiations centering around the 3. The Rangers would maybe offer Brinson and Ramirez while the Sox would want Sardinas and Brinson or Ramirez type deal. Then it would probably end up being something completely different.

Ventura can't do anything with this team. It's not a very good team. A rebuild is the best thing. Lets see how he works with that before making a case to remove him.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) This is a weird thread It's another source Sox fans can exercise our desire to complain. I think Sox fans have a cynical and somewhat bipolar side to us, especially the old timers. I remember sitting in the stands during a game in the late 80s completely moaning and b****ing about the state of affairs with some dude I didn't know. But an hour later we were pouring over the American League red book looking at White Sox prospects talking World Series in 2 years. I don't like fairy dust fans where everything is wonderful as you look up at the scoreboard watching your team roll to their 90th loss. Some of my best times with Sox fans in old Comiskey was just b****ing about things. I loved that. It's the nature of being a White Sox fan. To this day you want to get me on a good rant...ask me about 1983, the horrid call on the fair/foul ball in Game 2 against the Orioles that probably cost the White Sox that series BEFORE our offense pooped the bed in Game 4. -

I just went back and watched some video I took of old Comiskey Park ... it was an old yard, cramped, dingy...but damn I miss the charm of that place. Comiskey, Tiger Stadium, the Met, Sportsman Park then Busch, hell even Yankee Stadium all were demolished. If palaces like that can be replaced, changes on internet message boards are clearly fair game. -
Couldn't expect a heck of a lot. Solid prospect. I figure boom or bust with Jacobs.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) 1. not extremely expensive 2. AROD, Youkilis, Jeter all hurt 3. The immortal "David Adams" and his .190 average starting at 3b 4. Jayson Nix starting at SS 5. Keppinger hitting .330 since May 15 6. Yankees 3 games out of the Wild Card 7. Can fill the role and stay healthy for the remainder of the season 8. Won't cost much in terms of talent to obtain him 9. Already familiar with many of the teams in the AL East 10. Flexible enough to switch positions if Jeter or ARod do return this year 11. Yankees can afford a couple million for a UT guy Do you really need to ask? To quote Nigel Tufnel..."that's nit picking".

AJ may have been an ass, but NO ONE can argue about what he did on the field. Yes, he didn't throw well, but he called a good game, was an everyday player, and could hit. He was also extremely bright and as ball players go, few were more clever. AJ may not have respected Ventura, but in the one year he played for said manager he had a career year. AJP is a huge loss. I like Tyler and yes it's time to give him the reigns, but AJP will be sorely missed by the Sox and most of the fans.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 29, 2012 -> 12:28 PM) Sanchez has about as much power as Juan Pierre. Do we really want a 3B that has an ISO under .100 in the minors? I'd think his bat fits a lot better at SS and 2B. And that's where this franchise should keep him. Reports are he is a brilliant fielder...he has middle infield written all over him. The Sox would be fools to tinker with this move. This isn't moving a slow-footed, plodder with a big stick to the corner position. This move would be assbackwards.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 11:34 PM) Nice to see the Sox beat one of those gimmicky submariners. I mean if it was an effective way to pitch, tons of pitchers would do it. Nice to see the Sox beat one of those guys! I'd love to see an Elias stat on Sox against submariners not counting the late Dan Quisenberry. I didn't know Quisenberry had passed away. Wow, I'm feeling old.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 12:20 PM) The Twins scouts haven't been right very much recently. This was a salary dump and Escobar was the tallest midget they were offered. He strikes out more than 1 in 4 AB. Hits .159 against RHP with a .190 slugging pct. He's a back up at best, and the Twins, a last place team playing for nothing, are sending him to AAA. Please stop with the dramatics. He's an easily replaceable piece. Ding! I liked the kid, but as DA mentions filling his spot shouldn't be a major issue. Hernandez was completely expendable. Kenny did quite well (and I've not been a KW fanboy as I thought he got away from just these type of moves and going for the 'moves for moves' sake (Jackson) or just plain dumb ass moves (Swisher)).

Stan Bowman...take note, this is how you run a franchise.

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:26 PM) I know as a Sox fan this may be biased, but KW has secured executive of the year with his acquisitions of Youk, Myers, and Liriano. We've lost literally nothing of importance and picked up 3 key pieces to fill enormous holes on our team. No veteran presence in the pen, let's go ahead and snag Brett Myers for a couple marginal prospects. A giant hole at 3b currently filled by a developing player with major health issues, let's trade a utility player not doing s*** and a AAAA pitcher for a 3-time All Star 3b who is still young enough to make an impact (and has). Danks is hurt and Humber is pitching like s***, let me pick up a dominant lefty starter with hella potential for another utility guy and a scrub minor leaguer. KW is god. It's official. I love this deal. I really hope we can sign Liriano to an extension....he's getting back to where he needs to be. Pretty much sums it up I think.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:15 PM) If there's one thing Cooper excels at, it's getting his pitchers to improve their control. This is just a great trade. It's a brilliant trade and EXACTLY the type of move I wanted Kenny to make...sorta grabbing a guy under the radar...I was worried about Greinke talks because I was worried it would hurt our current team (as well as the minors), but this deal? Amazing...right out of the moves like getting El Duque', Jenks, Hermanson, Thronton, Floyd, and the countless other fanfare-less moves that helped the Sox win big. I know Liriano has been shaky at times this year, but this is a superior gamble to make given our track record with such reclamation projects.
