QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 07:58 PM) LOL. That's actually a good comparison offensively for the last two seasons. Although let's give Ichiro some credit on defense. He can throw Pierre farther than Pierre can throw a baseball. LMAO.

Not sure if I can help Caufield here, but my wife was Director of Development for an SRO housing non profit in Wash DC and in Richmond Va, has done major donors, government and grant writing...she has worked in nearly every field of non profits (at risk youth, food banks, environmental, worked for the NPCA, population, Red Cross, family planning in Africa, etc., etc). She is a wealth of knowledge. Though I don't think she ever dealt with corporate giving I did hear her talk of it some. You are right, it's not easy. I'd guess most of the money for non profits comes from foundations and major donors. I too have worked for non profit organizations, specifically on the science side of environmental issues. I don't advocate at all, just do my thing, but she did advocate so she's the person who knows that stuff. If you still need some feedback pop an IM to me or post specific questions here. She wouldn't be able to help with Chicago-based non profits however.

Kevin Youkilis is happy...he has a team who believes in and backs him and isn't looking to replace him. Youk did a hell of a lot for Boston and to their credit the BoSox fans were really classy and awesome the way the have treated Youk...makes me appreciate those fans a lot more.

Much more peaceful than last night...and no one whining about RV. I like when the Sox win.

Did some asshat just suggest we trade Viciedo and Quintana (as sweetner) for a middle relief guy? What a fool.

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 09:57 PM) How do you follow that, up with this? We're in first place with all those things that you mentioned...we've got a bullpen with 8 rookies and 1 vet, a patchwork starting rotation with 3 of our SP from April currently on the shelf......and we don't have organizational depth?!?!? How many teams could remain in first place given the injuries we've sustained. You guys kills me after losses. Quit it with this damn realism in here? Seriously, I get why some are on edge...2-2 after the break, the o looks like it could slump, the Tigresses are waking up and we see it all fading away...just get in and enjoy it. The Sox will be fine.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 09:41 PM) Who knows, his f***ing forearm could be tight. Hindsight is awesome and all but Septimo got squeezed and gave up a bomb to one of the best hitters in the game. It happens. Everyone is smart after the fact, hey? Bottom line is Septimo needs to go back to the farm. The bashing of the manager is just ridiculous. Lets get Ozzie back... Everyone is so phucking smart. If Septimo actually...pitches like he belongs in the majors and got through that inning wonder if people would be going, "Robin sucks...we're lucky we got them out because Septimo was wild and I can't believe he didn't give up a 3 run homer to Adrian Gonzalez." BTW---we have ONE RUN tonight...that's not gonna win you many baseball games no matter how well you pitch and even Whitey Herzog couldn't do much with that.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) Just what was Ventura saving Thornton for? The bottom of the order with all righties? Well, perhaps Robin thought (stupid I know) that Septimo could actually get his chit together and we may need Matt for later. I am sorry, but at some point the player has to be called out on things. I have no real issue with this other than the fact I don't want to see Septimo again in a White Sox uniform. Now that Robin knows this guy sucks, don't ever use him in a close game again.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) Brutal, some more bad managing. Forget the fact this stinky pitcher didn't get it done? At some point the players have to make plays...Septimo didn't...he should be out of the majors.

The wife thinks I'm cheering for "Dylan" because our son is named Dylan..."I think you just get off on it"....if it gets us a "W", why the hell not? Beer also helps. A 2nd run would be nice though.

Friday the 13th Game Thread: Sox @ Royals!

And the band plays on...and on...and on. -
QUOTE (Knoxville Sox @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 04:30 PM) They made the All-Star team...whatever the criteria and guidelines to get in may be...and for that I'm sure they'll be rewarded with a bonus. Good for them. Good for us that they were recognized and more importantly get some rest for the 2nd half. I hope not. Jake and Dunn are paid like all-stars, thus when they make an all-star team they shouldn't get a bonus (though I suppose possible). The millions upon millions those two guys get should be plenty. Put it this way, they didn't give back any of their salary last year.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 02:40 PM) Indeed. How can you believe this farce. Nothing but smoke and mirrors. Let's cut him. My point well missed in your sarcastic response. But whatever... -

Can Alex keep this up all year? Not a believer until he proves that, but boy has he been good so far. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 08:39 PM) Looks like Indians are going to lose tonight. A Sox win guarantees first place at the ASB. Well then lets win this fooker. -

QUOTE (35thstreetswarm @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) Is that Siamese Dream-era Billy Corgan? Billy had more hair in that era, even a perm-like do. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 11:37 AM) Ken Griffey, Jr. Manny Ramirez Alex Rios There WAS a point to these moves. If by extension people talk about the Sox so be it, but we needed a CF when both Griff and Rios were moved on and ManRam was brought in to help our fledgling power numbers.

I will give Kenny credit for one thing...in juxtaposing it to what the Chicago Blackhawks do...I don't think Kenny makes moves with the intent on 'making a splash' or for public relations. And also unlike the Blackhawks his moves have real direction. Yes, sometimes Kenny gives up too much or maybe doesn't get enough, but there is a clear mission to what kenny is doing. Never once has he made a move and I have gone, "why would he pick up a third baseman" or "a relief pitcher? really?" His moves MAKE SENSE even if we don't totally agree on the dynamics of the actual transaction. The clowns on West Madison running a brilliant young hockey team into the the dead of night have illuminated for me why I should hold KW in a bit more respect than I originally had for him. The Youkillis trade is a brilliant trade...a talented player sorta under the radar, maybe even injury proned...but a hell of a gamble to give up a utility guy and a nothing pitcher. If it doesn't work out, we're no worse for the ware, if it does work out? Possible post-season. THESE are the type of moves (Humber, Thornton, Youk, Hermanson, Jenks) where Kenny is a master.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 06:31 PM) f*** me. I voted 200 times. Any pitchers scheduled to go that won't be on the roster? Is Sabathia gonna pitch? Sabathia will miss the game/not pitch from what I read on mlb.com. Does this open up a spot for JP?

AJ is a warrior. I love the guy. His role was as prominent as any in winning the Series in 2005. Hometown discount perhaps?

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 04:12 PM) I still believe an >90 mph sinker is a big enough weapon that you start him in AAA. What's asinine to me is that the Jays thought he'd ever be a reliever. You don't cultivate a sinking fastball in the bullpen. He has a decent change and curve, but his command of those pitches is inconsistent. His command overall yesterday became wildly inconsistent after he got out of relief pitcher territory in pitch count. If you can get consistency in his fastball movement and some command of the offspeed in AAA, we'll see him again. If he doesn't do those things, we'll never hear his name again. No harm in trying to build the next Jon Garland in AAA He has a terrible curve ball...TERRIBLE. His change up sucks too. His command is poor and isn't overpowering with his limited arsenal making him a meatball pitcher. There are literally tons of guys in the minors more competent as this pitcher. The only thing he has that is remotely adequate is a sinker. At best he's a career mop-up bullpen guy. Though I do agree with your comparison of Garland...if Zach Stewart could pitch worth a crap he would be similar to JG.

Up until that point KW hadn't really lost anything when trading away 'top prospects'. He was bound to trade the wrong guy eventually.

Put me in with the pro-Hawk contingent. I guess with the team playing pretty well, we need something else to moan about.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2012 -> 08:54 PM) Definitely would feel much better with Gio having the Danks contract at this point in time. Water under the bridge. And there was always concern from the day if he was drafted if he had the durability to last as a starter. Question answered. I never understood the injury concern. People speculated he would break down because he wasn't 6'3, 215. MY ONE issue with Gio was his control.
