QUOTE (Real @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:54 PM) Peavy's stuff is so lackluster, he's done... I agree. The dude does battle, he is a warrior out there, but this guy we're watching pales in comparison to the dude who used to pitch for the Padres...he's got nothing in the tank at this point. He did hit 90 on one pitch, but his fastballs are 87-89 and his slider is rolling far more than is used to. They need to shut this guy down. He really is doing it with guts at this point, which I respect that, but something isn't right with this guy. This pitcher used to be filthy, had electric stuff and now he's a step up from a junk baller. Very sad...hopefully he does get it back at some point because at this point it's about a dude's LIFE and not just a win tonight.

Bound to happen...

Peavy really does battle, but to be sure we're not looking at a guy with fastballs in the high 80s?
-
Peavy really throwing tons of breaking balls...but it is working for him.

QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) If things were to go south, then sure, play Lillibridge full time and see what he can do. But at this point, I don't think it's best to play him every day. He had a hot start with the bat, but I don't think he's anything more than a .245 hitter with a full season worth of at bats. On second thought...maybe that would currently be an upgrade. Haha. Yea that.
-
QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) And when you get 550 at bats other teams learn and exploit your weaknesses. Lillibridge is not any everyday player, just a nice bench player. I agree, but you wouldn't want to at least try him out full time? He was once considered a top prospect and does a lot of good things. How much worse could he be than a few of our other guys?

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) Well havent we heard this same crap over and over again his past few starts Please send me the message board protocol we all should use please. It's a damn message board...if something is written you don't like fooking scroll past it.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 09:07 PM) Captain obvious in the house Yea I know, sports message boards are usually full of unique and timely hard hitting analysis. Get over it.

Peavy looks like a very mediocre pitcher out there.

This Duffy kid has good stuff.

QUOTE (forrestg @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) our opponents run on aj at will. make him a dh. he can replace the Left handed,.150 hitting, dh we are currently playing everyday. AJ also brlliantly handles the staff. he's not good at throwing out runners, but he's really good at all the other stuff. We can win with AJ....

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) 80 MPH not too shabby! Interesting, all I've done is taken some BP in the cage where they serve up some serious heaters, but that can't be anything like the real thing in the bigs, not even close. No way is .065 possible for a layman. No 80 mph isn't bad at all for a layman. Best friend has a 15 year old kid hitting close to 90 mph on the gun...trouble with him is his grades. Funny thing is his older brother is brilliant, went to Columbia on a full wrestling scholarship.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 06:43 PM) Enuff said - I didn't play past 18 years old and that was 20 years ago! :-) We're virtually in the same boat. I was done by 19...then lots of softball, which completely screwed me up worse for any chance at hitting actual live baseballs again. I loved playing softball in the field, but despised hitting. Not sure why that is.
-
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 06:26 PM) I told a friend yesterday I could bat .065 in the bigs. Haven't swung a bat in years. Am I on crack? I used to be a pretty good contact hitter back in the day... I do get your point, but I would say no you couldn't hit .065 in the bigs (unless of course you ARE the man, John Cangelosi himself). I respect the game too much to think anyone 'off the street' could do it even at that hilariously bad clip. I had a pretty good baseball career and was asked to walk-on for my college team, but honestly knowing what I know about the sport...if I were given 4 at bats for 162 games against big league pitching I probably wouldn't even foul one off until September.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) I noted this in the game thread, but Morel has 4 hits to left field at home all season. I'll flat out say that I don't think he's going to be a starting 3rd baseman in the majors. I just don't see the strength and offensive instincts to last. Holy cow. His defense is so great though, but that is a red flag.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) I'm done with this team if Viciedo is gone for a RELIEVER. You know...I have been a White Sox fan since I first knew what a baseball was...1977 is the born on date for my love, my devoted passionate love of this franchise. And I will NEVER quit being a Sox fan...it's who I am and I am proud of that, but if we do what you quote here I will absolutely lose interest in the long term future of this franchise.

Rios hitting 5th isn't a good thing at all, but for some reason I'm excited about baseball tonight. Had a good day at work, my son looked great on the ice (hockey) today, I just ate some b****ing spaghetti and the fridge is loaded with beer.
-
Dunn, Rios and to a lesser extent Peavy really are smelly.
-
Mark Teahen is NOT going to Pittsburgh. They are looking for a GOOD hitter...who happens to hit right handed...preferably an outfielder. If they are looking at the Sox, Carlos Quentin is the obvious choice, but like others I think they are scouting KC.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) You have the give credit to guys like Contreras and El Duque and Edwin for limiting their hits allowed if you're going to be on them all the time for walking guys. And while you hate to give guys free passes, last time I checked free passes are limited to one base and do not all a runner to advance from 1st to 3rd or score from 2nd. Edwin has a WHIP of 1.42 this year. Mark had a 1.40 WHIP last year. And while Mark may pitch quick games and keep his defense a bit more on their toes, you'd never hear Hawk lament about the hits Mark gave up last year in a similar fashion as he'll complain about Edwin's walks. Again, yes, it can be frustrating for a viewer, but you can't lose sight of the bigger picture. Edwin has struggled for much of the second half with command issues, which has led to his overall struggles; but get him on track going into the postseason, and he's as dangerous as any pitcher we have. That is where giving up Dan Hudson might finally prove worth it. What has Jackson ever done in post-season? The Sox have an enigmatic pitcher that will probably be employed elsewhere next year. For every Hermanson, Jenks, Thornton and Humber Kenny pulls, there are stupid trades like those that should be factored in. The Hudson/Jackson swap really made no sense. In fact it was stupid in my view...lets trade a good pitcher who is cheap and under our control for the next few years for another good pitcher who will be somewhere else in 2012. And as far as this grand hope for post-season success...we have no more evidence that one can count on Jackson in post-season than you can count on Hudson. Watching Hudson and Gio Gonzalez work gems today was just painful. I don't think this trade will ever been proven "worth it" in my view. Honestly, I'm shocked Sale hasn't been shipped off for some over-rated, aging and/or inconsistent 'name'.

If Ozzie goes, take Ken Williams with him. This team is just as much a byproduct of Williams as it is Ozzie.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) Dunno...thought he's been swinging the bat well lately. Fortunately for him they face 3 righties in a a row or he wouldn't see the lineup for 4-5 days straight. Hard to get in a rhythm when you don't play that much. He hasn't been that awful bad IMO... Isn't he hitting about .205? With 3 homers? There are pitchers with better BAs than Teahen...and before we bring up Dunn (who is worse) and Rios, I am in favor of sitting those guys down too. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) It's not necessarily his fault people hate him. One peek at ESPN this week and you'll see why people dislike Derek Jeter. Maybe not as a person, but they just hate the idea of him. He's one of the most overrated players in the history of the game or at least of this era. Once again, not his fault, just the media's and the people who think of him as a god. This is kinda true, but that isn't really Jeter's fault. When Jeter was interviewed about that amazing play in the Oakland series, which left my jaw dropping...Jeter basically said, "I was just doing what I was supposed to do." That said, the guy plays the game the right way, getting 3000 hits and winning multiple rings in the process. When he walks across the chalk he respects the game and has become a HOF player and champion through instincts and hard work. Sure, we can pick at him and his range and all that, but I wouldn't have balked ONE SECOND with Derek Jeter handling SS duties for our Sox the last 15 years. Over-rated? Not sure, but I personally believe he is a true great.

Wow...has Ozzie been fired yet? Marlins are sure acting like it.

Teahen showed TREMENDOUS promise early in his career. The dude looked like he could flirt with 20 homers/20 steals and a +.280 average. But his trajectory is on a severe negative plane and he is producing his worst for our team. Yet, we still run him out there. The player really doesn't look like a legitimate major leaguer at this point.
