  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) I understand. But with Pierre hitting .270 and going nowhere, I'd just stick Viciedo at third right now. Of course if he commits 2 errors a game that would offset anything he'd do with the bat. We're f***ed unless they trade Juan. Honestly, Viciedo may need to come up and platoon with Dunn and also spot start in RF and LF some...Dunn is simply atrocious against LH pitching. If they played DV against lefties at DH and give CQ an off day now and then Viciedo could get plenty of ABs. Third base is just a dead zone right now...
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) Why? Teahen is a joke. Morel can't hit. Teahen needs to be DFA's...Morel needs more work on his hitting, but the Sox have moved Viciedo off third base...he's not coming back there. Dayan will be DH, LF, or RF for the White Sox this year-if at all. Third base is just a dead position for us right now and I see no quick fixes. Unless you want to move Gordo back there and Lillibridge to 2nd. Even that idea isn't so great. Maybe we could just play without a third baseman.
  3. Viciedo is pretty much headed for the OF/1/DH now. He has no future at 3b I don't think. but his bat is sure damn close to being ready for the show.
  4. What is also ridiculous is they actually had the lead runner on Beckhams hit, but Pheralta inexplicably didn't throw it to 2nd. That was a terrible, terrible play, but we were unable of making them pay for it. Mark Teahen needs to be released. I can't think of one thing he brings to the team.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Really bad job by Ozzie of not taking advantage of the Valverde/VMart battery. Oh god...didn't even think that V-Mart was catching. Lillbridge could have probably stolen 2nd and 3rd. Then Teahen would have still struck out and PePe popped up, so we'd lose anyway.
  6. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) Willie Mays Hayes Each time you hit one in the air, you owe me 20 pushups.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) It's a tough loss but we can't expect to beat Detroit all 3 on the road. Maybe not, but this feels like a game we had in the bag. Lets try a 9th inning rally. Valverde can be exciting sometimes.
  8. Sox batters simply confused by that relief pitcher, then he started busting fastballs, it was like they were sitting on off speed. If we can't come back, will be a tough loss...Sox looked like they had momentum and this game saps it. Adam Dunn at this point doesn't even look like a major leaguer. It's sad to watch, but at least he's getting a lot of money.
  9. Defense didn't help Humber...can't say how much it hurt. The play to Ramirez wasn't easy by any means.
  10. That guy had 47 Ks in 29 innings, did I read that right?
  11. Sox will go out, knock down one of the best pitcher in baseball...this will be followed by getting beaten in a 4-hit shutout tomorrow. Just watch
  12. I don't know that we got Peavy to be a setup guy...right now he does not have the stuff to be a top-end rotation starter or closer. For the money we're paying him he needs to be an ace pitcher. He used to be dominant...over 9ks per nine with low era...his two highest eras are the last two years with the White Sox and he is now featuring a 90 mph fastball and is K per nine is way down now. He may can get it back, but we're going to have to start thinking of the possibility that the guy is beyond his shelf life as a front line ace and is now a back of the rotation type guy. The Peavy, Swisher and Jackson trades have provided very little to this organization (and the deals are likely net negative considering what we traded off). But Kenny needed to add to his baseball card collection.
  13. Kenny did a brilliant job building the 05 squad, but he's a joke now and his baseball card collecting of players and free agents instead of organizational development and patience (which may be partly our fault) has become the albatross of the Sox org....we're a dying franchise...we are loaded with old, slow, overrated and overplaid players. The White Sox need to look at the Blackhawks and see that you can win it all and then a couple years later still have one of the best franchises in the sport complete with a loaded minor league system. Basically, the Blackhawks bad years they'll still be a playoff team...the White Sox bad years they'll lose 90+ games.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:27 AM) Lastings Milledge is not obviously better than Juan Pierre in the OF. Given how bad Pierre has been in the OF this year, that's saying something. The fact that he's played CF in the past is meaningless, so has Juan Pierre, that doesn't mean he belongs there on a regular basis. I said "likely", not "obviously" better in the field. I love it when someone responds to a post and changes words and thus meaning of that which they respond to. The point of comparing the two however I think should be considered from the standpoint that Pierre could be moved. The question is...if we move Pierre, is there a replacement in house that won't be a severe downgrade. I think either De Aza or Milledge would at least not be a severe downgrade unless you seriously think those guys can't throw the ball 10 yards and will have OPS numbers in the 400s...
  15. De Aza and Milledge, neither of who blow me away, are both sporting OPS numbers over 200 points higher than Pierre. And you'd have to think they (both having played CF in the past) are likely better than PePe in the field. As far as Viciedo...I can't see how he could be worse than Dunn, although you have to figure Dunn won't finish the year with a .160 average and 15 homers. It's just not logical to expect that to happen given his track record. He may be beyond his prime, but he didn't fall off the planet that damn quick. Rios for all I care could be DFA'd...the guy is a bum. I can live with Dunn's .160 average because at least the guy is trying, but Rios plays like he doesn't care half the time. Players like that don't need to be wearing a uniform representing Chicago. Quentin should not be replaced at this time no.
  16. One logical move is to deal Jackson. He's an impended Free Agent and is likely to go elsewhere in the off-season. He is a talented pitcher, but we should have never traded for him in the first place, though that's beside the point. I think he could be moved perhaps as well as a big bat, likely Quentin. Teahen would certainly be someone to move, but who the hell would want him? And finally, Juan Pierre is another guy I'd not be shocked to see traded. All these guys need to be moved so the Sox can retool their minors + reshape the current team. Trouble is, the AL Central is such a crappy division the Sox are "in it", so one little hot streak and they could conceivably be at the top of the division. So in the end, I expect Kenny to do what he has been doing mostly of late...trade a good prospect for some over-rated or over-the-hill guy.
  17. So...a team that can't win the crappy AL Central is 'built for winning the World Series?' Laughable. And how many World Series has this team won since 2005? None...they've been to post-season ONE SINGLE time since then. ONCE. 2005 showed you how to win....pitching and defense, timely hitting, a lot of grit and great team chemistry. I don't know that 2005 was sustainable and it was probably just a 1-year deal, but putting big-name loafers and floaters on this team hasn't been working. Kenny needs to go back and scour the minors for the next Jenks, Thornton, Hermanson, etc...and quit pissing away money and prospects on overrated/overpaid hacks.
  18. The Sox as an organization is a mess, the byproduct of a GM simply out of control...very little restraint to resist adding to the baseball card collection...and Ozzie has managed as poorly this year as he ever has. Alex Rios, Jake Peavy, Adam Dunn are trash. Terribly overpaid and now the Sox are stuck with them. I'd rather have saved the money on someone who cared more (than Rios), who could do more than 1 thing (like Dunn) and didn't have the washed up look about them (like Peavy). Pierre is finished as a viable leadoff hitter...his OBP and OPS are as usual meager, but now he is stealing bases at a 55% clip. But of course, he makes up for it by not being able to throw a baseball further than 20 feet. Konerko gets a fat raise and goes out and plays great ball. AJP is also playing championship baseball. Mark Buehrle ditto...it seems the few players remaining from the 2005 team are still OUR best. Adding to his baseball card collection has done jack for Ken Williams. He has been exposed as a GM. Taking other peoples big name dead weight off their hands so he can keep his cred as an 'aggressive' GM. He is now the GM of a group of the most listless guys in baseball. Kudos KW. As for the players, I am all for raking on guys, but lay of Beckham, he is still a young player. This isn't an easy game, it takes time to adjust. His at bats over the past 10-15 games are very good. He's coming around. You can't get a talented prospect and not allow him a chance to learn/grow. Gordo's learning curve would be a non-issue if the veterans on this team were worth a crap.
  19. Even during a rally where the Sox score two runs they still show major levels of crap-ti-tide...between the bad ABs and bad base running not sure what bothers me more.
  20. Dunn looked relieved to have walked. Like in that movie "Little BigLeague" where the kids says, "Forget the HomeRun, just try to get hit by the pitch."
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) Can you imagine how happy Toronto was when we agreed to take Rios? Wow. And some people on here still want to criticize Rowand. A-Ro should have never been moved. I didn't mind getting Thome, but our CF spot has been horrendous since that move.
  22. Rios has talent, but he plays like he just doesn't care...and that's a big problem. The crappy division we are in keeps this team in it though. If the Sox were in the East, we'd be looking at a firesale.
