QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) Definitely mysterious what happened to his stuff. Perhaps the injuries have taken their toll. He was really nibbling in that last inning...guys with superior stuff shouldn't nibble. Just go and pitch. Unfortunately, Jake doesn't have superior stuff anymore.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) I think at this point it's safe to say Peavy is at least a semi bi-product of Petco Park. Peavy has looked like a very ordinary pitcher since coming over. Fastball around 90, sporadic off speed stuff...has been very inconsistent. Williams was trying to build his baseball card collection I suppose.

Fantastic, simply fantastic.

Trading for this guy was a joke...now all we're looking for is if the dude can play long toss or a simulated game. And when he does come back...how long until the next muscle pops out of joint.

Sox (2-0) at Cleveland (0-2) 4/3 @ 12:05 CSN

LOL at the hand-wringing after today. Even if the Sox go on to have a monster season, we'll get to see this same moaning and beetching 61 more times. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 08:57 PM) Chicago White Sox claim Philip Humber off waivers from Oakland Athletics. http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=458950 Humber was once a top prospect for the Mets. He did have TJ surgery and was brutal for them and for the Twins, but actually showed some signs last year. He should compete for a spot in the pen. Good low risk move as Humber is still young enough and recovered enough to where he could take advantage of what may be one of his best last chances. Will be interesting to see. Dude used to have a great curveball.

Great game. What worries me about this edition of the Hawks is they come out Sunday and get pounded 5-0. A MONSTER win like tonight only really means something if the team actually DOES something with it, like go on a little run.

I guess we know one place a former Pravda worker ended up; being ManRam's agent.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) Am I the only crazy person who doesn't want to trade anybody from our rotation???? This doesn't make ANY sense to me. We're going "all in" by trading a piece of our awesome rotation? Or by dealing a good bat for relievers? +1. A rotaton of a HEALTHY Peavy, Burls, Danks, Jackson and Floyd is nasty with Freddy as a backup plan. I suspect if they move a SP, then they think Sale is ready to start and that would necessitate adding another reliever in trade.
-
Buehrle has also hinting at retiring at some point in the near future. He won't be moved.

Two players in sports I just wish would GO AWAY: Brett Favre and Manny Ramirez

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) Are these guys similar to what we gave up for Peavy? Meaning, absolute garbage? If that's the case, then poor San Diego- having nothing to show for AGon or Peavy but Clayton Richard and his awful, awful splits. I know it's too early to tell, but what are the ceilings on some of these guys? While I agree that Richard isn't the 2nd coming of Koufax, but seriously...what has Peavy given us?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) My impression of Diaz is that he's an extreme platoon-split guy. Could be wrong. He is. Diaz MURDERS lefties....if he was a lefty who murdered righties I'd run, not walk to get him signed, but righty bats we're OK with. Even with Dunn in the fold, I think we're still short on good lefty sticks.
-
It has probably already been discussed somewhere, but AJ and Dunn's deals are backloaded, which will free up the money to resign PK. I am liking that scenario. Beckham/Rios/Konerko/Dunn/TCQ/Ramirez I'd still like another good lefty bat somewhere...Teahen and Kotsay don't excite me at all, but we're shaping up a team to make a run next year.
-
If this allows the Sox to retain Paulie then I LOVE the deal, but Cofield doesn't offer much in the way of upside at all. A true salary dump.
-
How much worse defensively is Dunn than Quentin?
-
I like Sale in the rotation...make a small deal with Philly and get someone like Antonio Bastardo to take Sale's place in the pen. I believe great pitchers should be starters and Sale looks like a great one. If he's in Chicago I hope he starts, but I believe he'll begin in the pen or AAA...we'd have 3 lefties ... Sale, Burls, Danks. Im cool with that.
-
LMMFAO...Madison Bumgarner? What on earth are you guys smoking? We're not getting him. Derek Holland would be a good get, but after moving Danks to us, Texas may be hesitant to deal us a good looking lefty. Although he is far more obtainable than Bumgarner. Keep in mind that Nolan Ryan is the guy in charge in Texas and he values pitching. I'd love to get Holland, but wouldn't hold my breath.
-
I'd be shocked to see PK back now. I just don't want Dunn at first base, he's awful, but if he moves into the DH hole it's an epic upgrade. The DH position last year was high comedy. Dunn should hit 40+ in the Cell.
-
Uribe plays sparkling defense at 3 positions, has some pop and played a key contributing role on 2 World Champion teams. Whether the Dodgers get full value or not is yet to be seen, but they are getting a sturdy piece for their team. Best of luck to Juan...anyone who came through Chicago in 2005 enjoys a special place in my heart.

QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 11:01 PM) I don't see us being a fit. Our most valuable position players (Alexei/Beckham) play positions they already have filled with competent players, our best prospect can't be traded until June, our other prospects aren't that good for the most part, and we aren't in a position to deal more than 1 starter or reliever (if any). I would guess the DBacks would want something along the lines of Danks1, Quentin, Santos, Mitchell, Viciedo. If they don't get blown away they have no reason to trade him. You're probably right about this deal and if that's the case we should exit negotiations right now. If dumping our prospects keep up, then I may have a chance to make the Sox farm system...despite the highest I ever peaked was 'being asked to walk on' at a very small DivIII college...and oh yea, I'm 40. The dream can still be alive.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 12:45 AM) Willingham is a really strong hitter, but his injuries lately are concerning. The Nats seem to value him way too much though, so I can't see them giving him up. Doesn't matter, as last thing KW is looking for is a righty hitting OF. The Nationals are starting to look ridiculous on trade fronts. Weren't they wanting BOTH Edwin Jackson + Viciedo or Beckham for Dunn last year? I would be hard pressed to give up an arm like Jackson's for Dunn...let alone tossing in one of our brightest young prospect. I guess with kenny trading away everyone else, the crappy nats thought they could pull another over on him.
-
I would move Jackson, but not in this deal. Jackson will go F/A next year. He should have never been traded for to begin with, he provides only a meager, if any, of an upgrade over Hudson.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 12:41 AM) A lot of people on this board didn't mind the acquisition. I got roasted last offseason for blasting the deal repeatedly. People probably didn't mind it because they figured what we gave up wasn't anything special. Hell, at the time I wasn't that cool on it...i figured Teahen could hit 15 homers, steal 15 bases...15/15 with a .275 BA and decent ability to play several positions is NOT a player teams DONT need...but Teahen didn't even live up to those numbers. And his defense was brutal. -

QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 12:37 AM) Who their right mind wants Teahen? Our GM. I still can't figure what on earth Williams was thinking bringing him in. As I've said numerous times...Kenny has TOTALLY lost his touch. Either that or he got really lucky before 2005. Since then, he hasn't done jack crap and all too often he obtains players that 'make no sense', very often giving up far too much value in return. I haven't liked a Williams trade since who knows when. I liked the Garcia to Philly trade, that was the last one I liked.
