  1. He'll be gone soon enough...too bad the Sox can't get back some of the terrific young talent they've traded away (Gio, Hudson, Richard)....Kenny brought us an older, wiser...but no more successful team. Our scouts and org. did a great job with some kids and we deal them off for (mostly) garbage.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) One of the single biggest blunders in White Sox history. If we win that game 1-0 behind Britt Burns' incredible performance, LaMarr Hoyt wins the deciding game and we probably win a WS way before 2005. Man oh man talk about heart-break. I still can't believe Dybzinksi got thrown out like that with the winning/lead run on its way home. Britt Burns pitched one of the most courageous games I have ever seen...by that point I think his hip was already on the downside and his days of taking a start every 5th were gone, but that guy was absolutely masterful in that game against a great Orioles team. LaRussa had to leave Britt in...Sox had a very marginal pen that year. The Landrum shot in the LF upper deck still haunts me...Yea, Im glad we got the series in 2005, but I loved that 1983 team. Still do...had my favorite player of all time on it (Fisk) and a SICK rotation. Hoyt going in game 5 against Scott McGregor would have completely favored the White Sox.
  3. The thing about Kenny trading prospects is he used to deal guys who never turned out to do crap, but now he's starting to trade guys who are really good (Gio, Young) and guys who are fairly servicable (Ely). That's what worries me. It seems he has lost his touch a little bit on that. Trading what we traded to Oakland for Swisher was a horrific trade, even if DLS never amounts to diddly.
  4. So many great things about tonight: Sox win Twins lose Good wine My kid has his first Fall game tomorrow and temps are due about 70 degrees and clear...
  5. Tomorrow or bust. If we lose tomorrow the division is over I think. Even if the Twins lose tonight (1-0 in the 5th), you know they won't lose tomorrow. If we fall 5.5 back we're toast...Sox would need to win like 19 games and hope the Twins play .500 the rest of the way. Not happening. Win tomorrow and see where we are.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) Unlike the last decade though, I don't feel bad about losing out to the Twins. In the past, the Sox were the more talented team. This year, that's not even close to being the case. They're 25 games over .500 without Nathan all season and without Morneau for almost 3 months. You tip your cap to them if they end the season with 95+ wins. It's remarkable they have been able to keep up like this. The Twins are like the proverbial cockroach, they can't be killed.
  7. If it wasn't over, it's over now. Gotta have to get this game back before this series is out. Although the Royals suck so we can't count on them to do anything.
  8. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) i hate mark teahen Teahen seems like a good guy, but I don't get what kenny saw in him...he's a poor defensive third baseman with 4 total homers this year. To quote the movie Office space, "What would you say it is you do here?"
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) The Fire Oz, not so much. I'm not obsessed. I just feel sick when I see that Fire Oz sig and had to mention it (for the first time) today before going to work. Do you realize if somehow we overcame the 4 game deficit (which I think we won't) Oz probably would be second in AL manager of the year voting behind Washington. Considering Ozzie's success rate, dealing with injuries and not having the greatest team in the world...calling him the worst game tacticians indicates should call into question anyone's ability to judge the game of baseball. While Ozzie does do some unorthodoxed things at times, the guy very often pulls the right move even when 'the book' says otherwise....The guy wins and he deserves credit for it. The boys are in the thick of a pennant race, a race for all intents and purposes we should have been out of, but Ozzie kept the team together...yet we have fans calling for him to be fired. Way to support the team isn't it? I wonder why some people haven't been offered a job at the major league level yet given how much they know. So I agree with you that it's sick and a joke to be calling for the head of the manager who brought us our first World Title in 80+ years, who has won another division title and has the current team-for all the warts at times this year-battling to win another division.
  10. Ozzie bashing seems to the the sport, but I love the guy. He is very unpredictable, which is WHY he is a great manager. It's hard to read his moves. Sometimes he bunts, sometimes he swings away, sometimes he has an early hook, sometimes he leaves guys in...there seems no rhyme or reason for his managing at times, which tells me Ozzie is using his gut instincts and not just merely following a template of 'when' to do/not do something. Baseball has become so regimented and predictable that it can at times get mundane...with oz it never does. Oh yea, the guy wins too... Count me as one who likes Ozzie as much as any coach in any sport the city of Chicago has EVER had (that I have personally seen coach/manage)....Halas and Jackson are probably the most successful ever, but I never saw Papa Bear coach and Phil Jackson had the best player in the history of the sport.
  11. Watching Jim thome hit moon shots for the Twins really is bothersome. Edit...Go White White Sox, nice sweep today
  12. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) I'm thinking of it as taking road games off our schedule, while the Twins are taking home games off their schedule, and we're actually gaining ground. We're doing what we need to do. Oh I totally agree...the Sox are doing everything we need, but the I am just down on the Rangers because one of my best friends is a Ranger fan and he won't shutup about them. I told them the Sox had better pitching and he laughed at me.
  13. Now if the freaking crappy Rangers could actually compete with the Twinkies we could make up more ground. We've won 5 in a row and have made up .5 games. that SUX
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) Those last two pitches by Sale have been strikes all game for Lackey. I haven't been overly impressed with the homeplate ump.
  15. Sheeesh...Don't need this kid. Put the lead run to the plate, tie run on.
  16. Haha at Beltre. He's a good player, but almost a real hiccup.
  17. Actually a good pitch by Bard on 3-2...Ramirez just muscled it.
  18. Bard at 99 mph. Although the pitch doesn't seem to 'explode' to me...
  19. Im guessing Sale will also pitch the 8...turning VMart around righty and facing Poppi.
  20. Haha...In response to a fan catching a foul ball....Red Sox announcer says it's rare you see a good catch from someone in the luxury box.
  21. Floyd did his job. Now a run or 2 would be helpful.
