  1. His name is Rios and he dances on the sand. Ok bad bad bad... But Alex has looked great today.
  2. Thanks Indians. Westbrook and his catcher both sucked that inning. 4 runs for Mark the way hes pitching is a good thing.
  3. Cleveland is literally NOT hitting anything hard. The hits have been hit no harder than one can hit a wiffle ball. Right now, Burls is in TOTAL control of this game. Defense has been meh of late...settle down fielders.
  4. I think Ozzie wanted to risk the steal...cause he'll have Juan leading off next inning. Teahen can steal a few bases, it was a good throw by the Indians catcher. I don't mind stealing there. Juan isn't gonna hit an extra base hit, but he could easily get a single which woulda picked up another run.
  5. Rios is a HUGE key for the team this year. Nice rip on the ball, just got robbed.
  6. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) This is how teams win World Series! I know its only one inning of the season, but great pitching and strong hitting have me excited! I can't wait for October!!!!! Haha...I hear ya, but lets enjoy April...the beginning of baseball season is special.
  7. Mark looks in mid-season form. Fast, throwing strikes, getting outs.
  8. Lets go... My 5 year old son started his t-ball career Saturday and now opening day 2010. I LOVE opening day... GO SOX
  9. Sorry, I accidentally voted for Kansas City. I had selected the Sox and I guess I clicked the radio button or something. Hmmm..Go Royals?
  10. Kotsay has been good this spring and I think he'll be a solid part of the team, but 5hole?
  11. Thanks Critic. Voivod is one of my favorite bands ever so I had to give 'em a plug. They probably would be called "progressive thrash"...an early influence of prog-metal. I personally like their more technical yet faster, more aggressive stuff (Killing Technology, 1987) than their all-out prog metal stuff (Nothingface), but for folks into superb musicianship, odd time signatures, a desire to use lots of minor keys, innovative song structures, conceptual weirdness combined with hardcore punk, heavy thrash, jazz and just plain ole' boogie woogie rock music, this band has never left me wanting more. But they are so weird sound and unique many people don't get them. They are sorta like a super fast and heavy Pink Floyd (even have covered a couple Floyd songs, including Astronomy Domine).
  12. For older fogeys in the crowd into progressive thrash and well...just thrash period...Voivod was masterful later night in Springfield, Va. Kreator was great too, but Voivod was simply amazing. Tremendous players and the music Denis (Piggy) wrote defined the word unique. They will probably be calling it a day soon, but it was one special last blast from the past. Also, Michel Langevin (drummer, Away) is probably the most down-to-earth musician I've ever met. The guy is amazing. I probably went to 200+ gigs back in the day and this one will stay with me forever. YOU ROCK Michael....and Voivod...but damned, wish you guys coulda played longer.
  13. Wasn't Blalock once considering one of the best third basemen in the game defensively? Has he broken down that much? The guy still swings an ok bat, but I don't know how dependable he is and given his Boras connection I can't see this happening.
  14. While not as good as the last 10, The 1990s were not bad, considering the lost season 1994. I believe the Sox had a VERY legitimate chance of winning it all that year. I know there were some excellent teams then (if I recall... Cleveland, NYY, Atlanta, and Montreal were really good) and the Sox may not have even been in first at the time (close to Cleveland), but the team was good, young and starting to show a lot of momentum until the season got canned. If the Sox had won it all (woulda been tough), then who knows.
  15. I realize Ely doesn't have electric stuff, but does Mark Buehrle? Not to compare the two, but what I understand is Ely was really studying hard to be a solid pitcher, his work ethic and devotion to his craft was turning him into a pretty damn good prospect. NO, he was never gonna be a front of the rotation starter, but just looking at raw stuff sometimes doesn't tell the tale. I mean...a guy with 'average' stuff that struck out the numbers he did while also giving up a paltry number of home runs makes you wanna keep tabs on this guy. It's over and done with, he's gone...probably won't be a huge loss, but I still think the character of the young man, his ability to grow, and work ethic, combined with a great understanding of how to pitch may find him pitching in the majors one day. Oh yea, Ely also grew up a Sox fan...
  16. When Gio skips on his wildness pills, he appears to be a great pitcher. I watched him pitch and the ONLY thing holding him back is consistency in tossing strikes. I am guessing brass figured he'd never figure it out and move on; sorta like a running back in the NFL who always fumbles. As Caufield said, Sweeney was being projected as a Corner OF, and Sox brass saw that the power was probably never going to develop to justify that position. However, Oakland put him in center and he's tracking out great there, plus his defense is more than adequate. No, he won't steal you the 30-40 bases we would all love from our CF, but you could do worse. DLS is still a ways off from the majors so I am not really worrying about him at this point. It doesn't look like the Sox are going to REALLY hate this trade when all the chips fall where they may with the spects we sent to Oaktown, but it surely has the potential to be a horrid trade (if Sweeney continues to develop, Gio finally beats the control bug and DLS gets back on the fast track)
  17. QUOTE (shakes @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 10:20 AM) Even if another bat is not acquired, we haven't lost any prospects of value this offseason, and something can be done in season. I don't agree with this. Jon Link and John Ely have some decent potential and we gave them both away in the Pierre deal. Ely was nearly dominant in AA last year and Link also showed real promise (though he's an older 'prospect' so his upside probably isn't as high). Ely is the guy I hated losing...he lead league in strikeouts and was a big winner, at only 23 years old he was certainly one to factor into the Sox future. That said, I do like Pierre in LF. His numbers were solid last year, he can get on base, run and catch the ball. He'll help. As is the case with Sox prospects, we can never get too comfortable with them. I expect Hudson will be gone within the next year or so.
  18. Ya! Freddy...dude showed something last year...he gets the shot and I think he'll be a credible 5th.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 08:19 AM) FA will come to the White Sox. Chicago is always ranked as the favorite visiting city in MLB. Players generally go to the place that offers them the most cash. The White Sox aren't known for that, and if it becomes a bidding war, they usually drop out. It has nothing to do with wanting to play for Ozzie or on the other side of town, wanting to play at Wrigley Field. Its all about the benjamins. Ding! It has nothing to do with not wanting to play for the Sox. Everyone thinks EVERY player wants to play for Boston and the NYY...why is that? Well, because those teams pay prime DOLLARS + they are also competitive. If the Sox field a competitive team (which we most often do) and paid what the Bankees paid (which they never do) then we'd be in the mix for every damn free agent we wanted. The Sox are playing from a different business model and that model says we will NOT be able to sign CC Sabathia, Mark Texeira or AJ Burnett in one off season, let alone all 3 of them. The Cubs will pay good money, but they are stupid so you can't put them into the mix with the Red Sox and Yanks
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) If not for 2005, would Ozzie still be our manager? Makes no difference. Dude managed the Sox to a World Championship, which leads me to believe he can do it again. Unless you can give Whitey Herzog youth pills, I see no proven upgrade that would be available. Ozzie is a part-time idiot, his mouth isn't always connected to his brain, he is an offensive fool, and he does some strange chit with the lineup...but the dude HATES losing, ALWAYS has his players back (unless he's the one beating on it), and brings personality to a game that is too often vanilla. Long live Oz!!!!
  21. While I think Jenks would be a great piece to trade as I believe he is nothing more than a very ordinary closer at this point, I don't want Mr. Toad's Wild Ride closing either. Lidge has a great arm, great stuff, but isn't dependable. For someone with the stuff he has to be as bad as he can be, it makes you wonder. I don't want to wonder, I want to win games. Yes to trading Jenks, but No to Lidge.
  22. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:32 PM) If by similar you mean vastly inferior, I agree as well. Haha.
  23. Would love this if we could get him...a guy still young, with upside, can pick it in the field, can run, is already a solid player.
