Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread

There are few finer men than Derrick Brooks who have played pro football in the last two decades, but does he have anything left? A player with his pedigree, his class, his humility, his character, his leadership is currently out of work...the only reason a team would not have him on their roster by now is he just can't do it anymore. I hate that, because DB is one of my all time favorite non Bear players, and would love to see him help this team. I just don't know if he can (at least on the field). -

Urlacher may be done? I hate this NFL season already. Fooking damnitall...Brian was going to be a monster this year. -
Payton should be #1 in my mind, but that's just me. Where is Da Coach? Ditka won a Title with the Bears in 1963 and exemplified CHICAGO tough...then after the franchise wallowed in mediocrity (or worse) from the late 60s to the early 80s, Ditka was brought in and promptly coached one of the more storied and feared teams ever. He brought back "Bear pride" and taught a new generation of players what it meant to wear the colors. Ditka's got TWO major drawbacks in my mind: His teams never repeated and Sweetness didn't get a Super Bowl TD when Perry did. But he put his stamp on the city when he played and coached... Sosa even on the list is a joke. I'd also move Luckman into the Top 10...he QB'd arguably the most dominant Bears teams in history...the one true, bonafide dynasty the Bears had was orchestrated by Sid Luckman...the team could have been even more devestating had World War II not broken it up, but they surely made their mark in many ways. Sid moves up Ditka moves in Payton moves up Sammy moves out

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 02:17 AM) Urlacher dislocated his wrist, surgery Monday, out 3-4 weeks. Per the Tribune. Brian came into this season looking like an absolute beast. This is a devestating blow, but one that may not derail the team. I believe this team can AND WILL beat Pittsburgh next Sunday. Maybe I am just a fool thinking this team is good, because I see weaknesses that concern me (our o-line has a couple major holes, receiving depth, and the secondary is average at best), however, other that the Bears shooting themselves in the foot last night, when they executed the gameplan on both sides of the ball, they played damn good. -

Fook the Packers. They got a gift tonight. Silly fake punt, inexperienced receivers, receivers playing poorly, injured CB, we lose our leader on defense. Teams that lose the TO battle 4-0 should lose by 20...but the Bears had the game in their hands despite all that. The better team lost tonight. If the Bears played smarter, they win this game by 10. And did I say FOOK the Packers yet? -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) Depeche Mode, Coheed, Rise Against, and Tool have melted my face off this weekend. I am guessing you did not see these bands on the same bill.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) I like Chris Getz I've always liked him and felt he could do the job. He just needs to find a way to avoid these injuries. I also like Nix as well. We have weaknesses, but I think with Ramirez, Beckham, Nix, and Getz we really should be pretty ok from 2nd base over to 3rd for the forseeable future.

One more month of this.

I know 6.5 games doesn't look like a lot, but in reality it's a ton at this stage of the game. Detroit playing only .500 ball from here on out would force the Sox to play nearly .750 to get into a dead heat with them...and that's not considering the Twinkies are also ahead of us. The thought of the Sox going something like 21-7 over the last 28 games is laughable to think about. I believe this season is done.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) They have 6 games left with detroit and an entire month of baseball to play. we arent out of it yet, so that isnt really that delusional. Just as fast as we fell back, we could get right back into it. The problem with this theory is this team isn't good. -

Thome, $ to LAD for Fuller-Jose to COL for $, Hynick

Thome is not coming back to Chicago. Kenny is going to get younger and more athletic between now and next season. -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) You can't compare deals. Obviously Contreras was more important to Colorado than Thome was to LAD. Also, who knows, maybe another team inquired about Jose too, thus raising his value. Sending Thome to LAD was basically a gift to Jim. Complaining about it is really useless and silly. Sure you can compare the deals. Outside of your rampant speculation (which means nothing) to infer Jose deserved to have more value, I simply was making a point that Contreras netting more than Thome amazed me, because I think Thome can still produce, whereas, Contreras is a BP pitcher at this point. Honestly, I don't see why EITHER of these teams would have wanted either of these players. Thome is purely an AL guy. Obviously, no one bit...so he goes to the NL to PH and be a clubhose guy. Ok, fine...won't get much for that. I get it. Then you have Contreras, a pitcher who has been beyond laughable for most of the last 2 years (his little streak right after coming back from Charlotte was an anomaly)...had Kenny Williams simply CUT Contreras I would not have blinked. Instead, he turned him into a decent looking pitcher from AAA with a bit of upsdie (not great upside, but some). So yea..I can and will compare the deals. I am not really complaining about it either, just making comments. I said the Thome deal was awful and it was, but just because I think it's not a good deal, it's not a trade that's going to ruin the franchise in the least. -
I was quite impressed Kenny flipped Contreras for anything with any upside. Thome was dealt for absolutely nothing...I guess this opens up the door for Dye to DH next year, or possibly Flowers? If Konerko is on the team he remains at 1st base, because despite his lackluster ranger, he plays the position quite well otherwise.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) You actually expected to get something for him? The guy is a DH and pinch hitter only. The team trading for him would only have him for 1 month. What were you expecting to get? I said it was awful, because we got nothing for him, which surprised me since he is a guy still with good power from the left side. But if you had read my post you will notice I disclaim that comment with the comment that I said Kenny got all he could get for him. Even if nothing was all he could get, that still doesn't make it a good trade. Maybe we're freeing up money, I don't know, but we just as well should have given Thome to the Dodgers and save the paper work on transferring the player from the Dodgers to the Sox. Juxtapose this deal with the other deal we made. We DID get something of value for Contreras and Jose is horrid. -

The Thome trade was awful. The Sox got nothing for Thome. Although it shows Thome's days are about numbered. Had he been of any value to an AL team, someone would have surely given us more than a 26 year old A ball non prospect. Awful, but it was probably all KW could get for Jim. Best of luck with the Dodgers. The trade with the Rox is good. Contreras is another player completely washed up on this team and we turned him into a fairly decent arm, a guy who in the least should be an effective pitcher in the pen, or possibly long term 5th starter. This trade I like. We just sent two 40 year olds who simply had outserved their usefulness...I'd have liked to have gotten more for Thome, but I see this move as opening up space for some young guys anyway. -
The Kenny Williams job approval/disapproval poll
kwolf68 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would like to see Kenny given a shot at restructuring this team. He obviously can find talent and make good moves, but his last two moves are not looking good...Pena is garbage and we gave up a fine power hitting spect for him and Peavy is currently damaged goods (now he has elbow issues). You can't win them all, but both those trades have done absolutely NOTHING for this team this year and both moves mortaged the future. That all said, I think the writing is on the wall and Kenny knows it's time to move a bunch of players out, getting younger and more exciting. This team has 'run its course'. It was a good run, but time to cut bait on numerous players on this roster. -
This team sucks...if Ozzie goes, so too should Kenny Williams. It is still an old, sluggish, boring team to watch.
-
Time to take this season out behind the barn and shoot it.
-
A terrible mistake. Pathetic to deal a nice power hitting prospect for a freaking middle relief guy (who isn't any good anyway)
-
These guys are a bunch of lollygaggers , but im still rooting.
-
Another failed opportunity to pick up a game playing against a team that is just playing out the string. The hitting is s*** on this team.
