  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 01:37 AM) Colon and Lillibridge recreating the Dish that ran away with the spoon. So glad I logged on.
  2. 2 runs could do it. A 3 hitter from French and the Sox fail to pick up game. The team is lifeless...someone give them so no doze.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 10:00 PM) That 2-2 to Gutierrez was a much better pitch, and that was called a ball. Agree. The ump is all over the place and it's obviously not hurting either pitcher. Although both teams stink at hitting so it's hard to tell.
  4. Nice ... not often you see Ichiro bottled up like that.
  5. The Sox...turning Luke French into Ron Guidry...sweet.
  6. If Dye keeps slumping like he is, he'll have very few interested teams knocking on his door. He's not even a servicable outfielder anymore probably taking all NL teams out of play. That leaves AL teams with a hole at DH to fill as his only potential suitors. I can't think of a RF in baseball who is worse than Dye defensively (unless Jack Cust plays RF some for Oakland).
  7. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) MLB: Encouraging Being a p**** Since 1993- I miss the old baseball where you had an eye for an eye kind of mentality. Forget about it...it's all about pleasing corporate sponsors today....don't say anything remotely controversial, don't have opinions...just dress a certain way, have the same haircut using the same cliches...it's the Nascar-ization of baseball. Hell, hockey has lost it's 'eye for an eye' mentality, so you know baseball sure as hell won't keep it. Weep for lost glory.
  8. Here comes another 'unkown pitcher from somewhere' to handcuff the Sox. I'd almost rather face freaking Roy Halladay than some of these no name guys (yes I know French is a good prospect).
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 09:13 PM) Sure hope not. Rios can't shine Dye's shoes. Dye much better. Dye is a better hitter with more power, but Rios is the vastly superior defender and base runner. That said, I don't want Dye moved as I think he'll turn his slump around and help down the stretch. Rios Id love to go for, but our OF would be crowded. Once back in the groove, Dye is playing and he can't DH because Thome. CQ isn't leaving the lineup either and ScoPo gives the Sox a credible leadoff hitter. Just don't see the overall fit unless you plan to start platooning some guys.
  10. Ohka rules. He was just the tonic to get the Sox right. Let's get the series tomorrow and head West.
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) You absolutely do not give them a free base runner. EVER. You wanna retaliate? Hit a homer, score some runs. Being childish is unacceptable in the game of baseball. Sorry, but retaliation is as much a part of baseball as the ball itself. Childish or not, it's just the way it is.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) You have to retaliate. So now we have to do it Sunday in an 0-0 game. I'd rather have had Bobby hit one of them. It'll be up to Jose, now early in tomorrow's game. Absolutely. I agree that the Indians were not trying to hit us, but when they can just toss whatever crap toward the plate with no concern, that gives THEM the advantage. If they hit us, then we have to come toward them. If they don't want to pay the fiddler, get those pitches off our players and if you're not good enough to go inside without cracking us, move the ball away. We can't afford any injuries coming down the stretch. Me hitting you after you hitting me is a part of baseball and has been for over 100 years. It aint changing now.
  13. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) My wife is really mad that they didn't plunk somebody. She wants blood. You're not married to Hawk are you? Seriously, were they going after us or did their young pitchers just get wild? That said, a message must be sent I agree. I think Count should plunk Grady tomorrow and then it be done.
  14. Im still basking over that sinker....one of the most unhittable pitches Ive seen in a long time.
  15. Was that a 94 mph sinker Jenks just threw to Geminez? What a brutal pitch that was.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 10:12 PM) He was outside the line and got hit by the throw. It was an obvious call. The play happened fast and I didn't really pay attention when they did the replay...we got the run anyway so it all worked out.
  17. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) It was a great bunt, but Gordon was called out for running inside the line, which is a horrendous rule. The bag is inside the freaking line, not sure where the hell Beckham is supposed to run. Stoney and Hawks said it was a good call, but it looked to me like he was not THAT far inside the line...looked like he just ran straight up the line to me. Since he was trying to beat the throw there was no need to circle the base and thus take the wide turn at first. I thought the call was a WTH, but if Stoney thinks it good, Ill go with that.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) Gameday has him called out on "Batters interference". That doesn't sound like a great bunt? Duh, check yourself dude. Beckham was running inside the baseline and they called him out. The bunt, as I said, was a great bunt.
  19. QUOTE (nastymasty21 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) awful call by ozzie. Let beckham hit! Im no big fan of Beckham not having the bat in his hands right now, but it was one of the best bunts Ive seen by a Sox player in years. The guy can literally do it all.
  20. Was a good play by PK...thought it was big trouble at first. SOmetimes these guys make things look easier than they really are.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) Can't fall too far behind, as Masterson isn't likely to give up many homers. Masterson won't likely go more than 5 innings...they have him on a pitch count tonight as they are stretching him out. I think Hawks said he'd go 60 pitches tonight. He's a good looking young arm no doubt.
  22. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) That last pitch on the strikeout was nasty. No doubt...he has a very good slider and can run the heater up toward the mid 90s...kid has a live arm.
