  1. That 1-1 strike to Jiminez was total meat...he throws that to a real ML hitter and it's in the seats. Still, kid battled through and got out of it.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) Last I checked their bullpen isn't anything to get excited about. We still have 3 more innings at the plate. Their pen has been terrible actually. Although 4 runs is still a lot of work to do.
  3. He was really coming around since the ASB and keeps the train rolling tonight.
  4. Ok so we got a guy who at one time didn't even want to be here, who is injured with no exact time to return to the bigs? We gave up 4 pitchers for this player and we owe him more money than God can get his hands on. And one of the players we gave up has been instrumental in keeping us from being worse than we already are. That said... I am far from being mad about this, because if healthy, happy and motivated Peavy is a dynamic mean filthy stud with the skills, talent, stuff, and moxie to be one of the game's best righty starter.
  5. The Wise/Kotsay era will continue. I really was holding out hope to bring in a CF. What a pipe dream that was.
  6. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Really...? Weird. Echooo....ooo...ooo... Very nice find, except we don't need Bell, the Tigers needed another SP. IF WE NEEDED to add Bell, then I would want him on the team EVEN WITH the possibility that he would slump (same scenario as Washburn). But I don't want to add Bell, because we don't need him (well, at least for the price they would be asking), irrespective of his potential to or not to go into a slump (or on a mission as a monk;)
  7. Bell is good, but won't be cheap and the Sox don't need him. We need people who can help us score runs and catch the ball.
  8. I've never seen the White Sox so quiet. With a team at 1 game over the mediocre line, playing lackluster offensive ball for much of the year that surprises me.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) You got a point. Thing with the Red Sox is that they've been so good in regards to drafting/developing the last 5 years that it seems like they can trade anybody and not be hurt in the least. I want somebody to rape the Red Sox for once. Yep. Their system is awesome. They have enough prospects to make deadline deals to get veterans for the stretch run, and enough prospects to fill in where attrition removes established players. The Dodgers and Angels used to be that way, not sure where those two orgs are right now overall, but 2-3 years ago they were about the best.
  10. QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) I agree. For several reasons. Right now Ricciardi is benefiting from Halladay being the only real dominant starter available. Had Peavy and Webb been healthy - they'd be in the discussion for available aces. If the offseason hits - Halladay is now a 1 year rental instead of 2. He is one year older. Potential for injury in Septermber (unlikely but why risk it if your intention is to deal him). There will be cheaper options available via FA - not to mention a whole new crop of guys in the final 1-2 years of their contracts (sort of like how Halladay wasnt this available last season but CC was) who will be open for a trade. There is more then that I'd imagine. Why this moron is being so stubborn is beyond me. Get what you can and move on so you can focus on rebuilding this offseason instead of focusing on how to dump players. Excellent points, and many of the teams who the Jays were talking to (Phillies, Red Sox, Dodgers) have made moves depleting resources. I still wouldn't be shocked to see one of the AL West teams (LAA, Texas) get in on Halladay. They both have the pieces to move, but will JP come down off his obscene demands?
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) I don't think you make trades based on in-season slumps. Guys like Jenks, Thornton, Dotel, Linebrink... they will very, very likely go back to being what they have generally been for years, which is very good. Linebrink scares me a little bit, but even him, I think he bounces back. Pena isn't great but doesn't need to be. Carrasco is just fine for a long reliever. The only truly weak spot in there is Williams, and he's the 2nd lefty and a LOOGY, so I'm not overly worried. I think if you go get a reliever right now, unless its a serious high end lefty, its useless or worse. And even the high end lefty isn't going to be utilized enough to make it worth what they would probably cost. Very good points and whose to say the reliever we get wont slump? By all accounts we'd be going for 'just another reliever' like Pena, which isn't really anything more than a sideways move that will cost us.
  12. The Indians got 2 good pitching prospects for what is basically a designated hitter. I will admit Martinez is a VERY GOOD hitter, but he doesn't bring anything else to the table. I think the Indians maybe could have done better, but I don't think they got taken that bad either...Masterson is pretty close to being ready. Not sure about the other kid, but he's a very nice prospect.
  13. I really really like Masterson. Kenny tried to get him in the Dye negotations 2 years ago.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) I don't get all the talk of getting ANOTHER reliever. Its just not something the team needs, at all. I mean if you can upgrade there, fine, but the Sox pen, despite some recent struggles, is still one of the best in baseball. I think moving on ANY pitcher makes no sense. Our pen CAN BE and SHOULD be very good...our starters ARE good. Get us a Centerfielder who can leadoff, draw walks, steal bases and catch the damn ball...that's the one major piece I think we lack and Kotsay/Wise are NOT THE ANSWER.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:25 PM) Fox Sports is reporting Buchholz nor Bard are involved. So that's an automatic win for them. Really.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) Somebody said that the deal was packaged around LaRoche. I'm just responding to that. Gotcha. LaRoche is probably just a throw-in...i can't imagine he's the center piece of a deal for Martinez. I don't mind Cleveland getting screwed at all, but the Red Sox always seem to pull this crap. I remember when they were offering up trash minor league relief pitchers for Dye...thankfully KW gave Theo a nice FU.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) Wow, so the Red Sox traded crap to the Pirates for LaRoche and now the Red Sox get VMart for him. Jeez... What?
  18. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) If we did decide to sell, the Rangers seem like a really good trading partner. They could use both Contreras and Dye. The Rangers have some nice prospects, but after the Danks trade they may not even return our calls anymore.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) I assume he'll split time at catcher/1B/DH. Yea I guess. He's a bad defensive catcher and I wouldn't remove Youkillis from first base (though I guess he can move to third)...Then they have LaRoche there. Just looks like the Red Sox are acquiring people for Ss and Gs.
  20. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) Technically we have made several moves with BA to Boston for Kotsay, and acquiring Pena from the Dbacks. But nothing really of substance. Yea, but bringing in a washed up Kotsay and dealing off a powerhitting prospect for an average middle reliever isn't the legacy I think Kenny wants to leave on this year.
  21. Where is he going to play? Catcher?
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Dude, the deadline is like 2 hours away. I understand that you start out shooting for the stars. But you don't soften your stance just a couple hours before the deadline. Why not? That's exactly the way one could play the game. You surely don't soften your stance 2 weeks before the deadline. Makes no sense...He has an alloted time to deal Roy, you don't take the lowest offer you'll accept 2 weeks before the deadline. Sure, he may not be interested in anything but everything he's asking for, OR it could be part of negotiations to try to ratchet the offers up some. Who the heck knows, maybe 10 minutes before the deadline he'll call back a team who made an initial offer he turned down and accept it. Maybe all along he is willing to accept said offer, but wanted to spend the remaining time trying to get something more. Who knows? No one knows for sure what is real in any of these negotiations, but I can certainly see him softening his stance 2 hours (or even 10 minutes) before the deadline...ASSUMING he is actually softening it to begin with, as the offer may be to his liking anyway.
  23. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Washburn should perform better than Porcello. Yet I think both Washburn and Edwin Jackson are due for a letdown. Verlander is still the only one the Tigers can truly count on. An upgrade for the Tigers. Yet I have a hard time seeing Washburn keep up his numbers. And this hurts the Tigers in the future. They didn't have much in the minors as it was. This further depletes them. Agree...I think the Tigers see their window closing and want to try to cash in this year. I don't see them as a World Series contender at all, but they could very easily win this division and get into the playoffs where they would at least have a chance.
  24. I don't care where, who or how, but I want a centerfielder. I don't know of one that is available, so we'll probably just make a small whatever move. Id be shocked if we did nothing. When is the last time KW did nothing?
