QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) well in that case we were both right A win-win for all. I thought Castro was a better hitter than that. Ugh.
-
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) i think its .171 with the sox, .228 overall with the sox and mets Ok that may make sense as the averages reset when players change leagues.

Im thinking the Twins will win this game with one big inning...will go something like this -flair single to short right -infield single off pitching mound rosin bag -sac bunt -strike out -infield single, 2 runs score. runner advances when pigeon s*** gets into eyes of Sox fielder -walk -ducksnort to short pitchers mound -morneau 3 run homer 5 runs scored.

QUOTE (nastymasty21 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) 1st major league start. I think I know how this story ends With White Sox fans drinking heavily?
-
QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) ouch....didnt realize that castro has a lower batting average than wise.... Does he? Castro is hitting .228 and Wise is something like .186 I thought.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:05 PM) I hope we're prepared to work this pitcher. He doesn't throw a lot of strikes. Of course tonight he'll morph into Greg Maddux...9 pitches, 9 strikes, 3 up-3 down...fun and games start.

CROWN HIS ASS

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) Agreed. If that happened, we would be as bad as **shudder** the Phillies, who couldn't get anything out of Gavin Floyd and won the World Series last year. Or Seattle with Thornton. Or the Angels with Jenks. Or Arizona with Quentin. Or every other team in baseball. All those guys except Quentin are pitchers (Cooper the magician)...and while having a great 3/4 year last year and loaded with potential, Quentin has serious durability concerns. He didn't stay healthy in Arizona and has not stayed healthy here.

Sounds like a Cub fantasy trade. Cubs are like the NHL Maple Leafs...lots hype, players always want to play for them, they will get all the best deals, fans are ridiculous (in their own unique ways) and they have nothing to show for all their largesse.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) Fields, Wise and Anderson for Kotsay, and Pie.......don't seem like good basball moves to me. LOL..Wise is nothing. You could just say Fields and Anderson for Pie and Kotsay...that said, I'd still agree with you
-
QUOTE (son of a rude @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) They said its being talked about on am 1000. Pie would at least be an upgrade over dewayne piece of s*** wise. OK. Like I said, it does make sense...change of scenary for two player still with some potential. And absolutely Pie would be an upgrade over Wise...If the Sox landed Pie, it would possibly mean Wise would be released. Pie is still quite young, but has been no better in baltimore since leaving the Flubs. Cub hype may have ruined him.
-
QUOTE (son of a rude @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) I'm reading on another forum that a Fields for Pie trade is almost done. Not sure how true that is though. Do they have a link? That trade would actually make a lot of sense. Two over-rated prospects going to teams with a need for their position (Os need a young third baseman, and the sox need a young CF).

Can Halladay get clutch hits? Can he run? Can he stay healthy? Can he play a good field? No he's a starting pitcher? The ONE THING on this squad that IS A STRENGTH? I love Doc, but WHY? What is the difference between Richard, Floyd, Danks or Buehrle losing 2-1 or 3-2 than Halladay? Our starting pitching needs no help at this time. NONE...we have other serious issues that need to be dealt with first.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 02:35 PM) Happ has fairly average stuff. Kinda like Mark Buehrle has average stuff. Happ has a tremendous understanding of HOW to pitch. That's why Buehrle is so good...even with 'average stuff', he's still one of the games greatest lefty starters. Happ is very similiar in that regard to Mark.

QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) I feel the exact opposite, Knapp may not be ready for a couple years, Carrasco and Donald are overrated, and Moreno may be decent. Seems like they kept their top prospects and made the smart trade for Lee and not for Halladay, who wouldve cost a ton. And they got Francisco as a throw in. Great trade for the Phils. Agree...the fact the Phils didn't have to give up Happ, Drabek or Brown says a lot. I know the Jays wanted BOTH Happ and Drabek for Halladay...the Phillies got a pitcher (Lee) not quite as good as Halladay, but still damn good and kept not only ONE of Drabek and Happ, but BOTH of them. And Francisco as the afterthought will provide additional help to the Phillies as well. Phillies with a win here.

I think if the Sox lose this game, they'll begin to fade (if the fade hasn't already begun). I don't think much of Detroit or Minnehaha, but the White Sox (other than starting pitching) are not a playoff quality team.

QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) Anderson is bad and Wise is bad. They're both bad. It's like flipping a coin and getting pissed about it landing 'tails' instead of 'heads'. Maybe the difference is one knows he's bad and the other still thinks he's good. Good luck with that in Pawtucket. Anderson was hitting .230 wasn't he? Not good at all, but compared to Wise it looks pretty good. Anderson is also a better defensive outfielder. I think Anderson would have been a more valuable player to this team. Wise should have been cut and Anderson should have remained to be the defensive sub...why send a guy down to AAA hitting .230 when you have a guy playing the exact same position hitting .186? And spare me the 'lefty right' thing...Wise can't hit anything so what side of the plate he stands on means nothing.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) The entire NHL knows what the odds are that Havlat plays 80 games again next year. Last year was the first time it has EVER happened covering a nine year career. He hadn't even been over 70 since his second year in the league. The same argument could have been made for keeping him around. As for Hossa he has played at least 70 games for the last 10 seasons. His numbers also kick sand into the face of anything Havlat has ever done. Where in my post did I say the Hawks should have signed Marty? I didnt. In fact, I didn't even approach it. My view on Marty was to sign him to a 1 year deal, see if he can break the durability problems and then maybe ink him longer term if needed next year, OR ... let him walk if another winger develops thus allowing us to resign all our main pieces. So Marty balked at the one year deal and the negotiations were finished. No problem there. Hossa was NOT the only game in town at that point, but if he was the main game, then fine...why no serious questions about his terrible fall from grace in the playoffs (a fall likely caused by this injury?). Was there no question that Hossa "could be" a player with a lot of tread on his tire and while he's been healthy to this point, now is when the nagging injuries that a 10 year NHL career sometimes give you, start to manifest themselves? It appears the Hawks had no serious discussions about Hossa other than, "we gotta go get him"...it was a haphazard move and now that we'll spend the first 1/4 of the season playing without him, let us all hope the remaining kids can hold things together. I am not saying Hossa is NOT a good player, he clearly is a very good player and is better than Havlat in the defensive and neutral zones. I like Havlat's game better in the offensive zone from the standpoint of being able to create his own shot, but yes...given the equal choice between Hossa and Havlat I'd lean Hossa, but that's no longer a valid argument since Hossa is going to be coming back from -ironically- a shoulder surgery (the same thing that plagued Marty 2 years ago here in Chicago) and won't be on the ice for 4 months.... those 4 months he misses is NOT JUST the games he is actually not playing, but he misses valuable time building team chemistry on the ice with his would-be line mates. So even when he comes back, it's possible his line will be out of sync for some period of time as they build this needed chemistry. Toss in the fact, our most complete line last year (Bolland/Havlat/Ladd) is no longer in existence. I am certainly not calling my Uncle in Chicago asking him to reserve me those Stanley Cup tickets right now.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:31 PM) Colon pitches one start and has a sore elbow. DFA his ass now. Put Richard back in the rotation. Richard should have never been removed from the rotation. UNLIKE Colon, Richard at least can be depended on to take his start every 5th day and his last two starts have been GEMS; you simply do NOT remove pitchers on that kind of roll. Yea, if Richard starts to scuffle a bit and he needs to take to the pen to clear his head fine, but not after pitching 2 masterful games. Ozzie was a ball player, doesn't he KNOW THIS crap? To ride the hot hand while it's hot? Love you Ozzie, but you're drunk.

Getz is still not the problem...rookie 2nd basemen hitting at the bottom of the order are role players. The real problems are people like Wise, Thome hasn't been consistent, Quentin has been injured or awful and our bullpen has been crap for a month now. Our starting pitching has been solid...which is the only reason we are not in the toilet with Kansas City. Complaining about Getz, a low paid rookie when other 'notable' players (Thome, Quentin, Jenks) are producing jack is avoiding the issue.
-
Getz is not our problem...he's a rookie not doing a half bad job this year. We have other issues to be concerned with.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) Except the Hawks are developing some of the best young players in the game. And Hossa is a better player than Bradley and Soriano combined. But how long until those best young players are gone? The minors are wearing thin...our two best spects Beach and Aliu are boom-bust prospects, we have very little money to spend on NUMEROUS free agents next year. If they are able to keep Keith, Toews and Kane next year without jettisoning numerous '2nd tier guys' I will be astounded and shocked. Now comes this Hossa thing...no one thinks having one of your best players being out for 20 some games could hurt? Remember two years ago? The hawks missed the playoffs by 3 POINTS. J.Toews missed 18 games that season...of those 18 games, they won only FOUR I believe. Great player out, can't win, miss playoffs. Now, I don't think that will happen this year. I think there is enough talent to hold off the fort, but these managing decisions are mind-boggling. Not getting a physical on a guy prior to inking him to a 60 million dollar contract is bad. Sorry, but right now the Blackhawks are a poorly run organization. They have been winning on the ice, because they were also previously poorly run and were able to parlay that incompetence into high picks/good talent. Toss in some excellent scouting wins where the Hawks landed excellent value and you have a good baseline of talent. but the ability to manage the organization is questionable at this time. I hope I am wrong...I hope Stan can really turn things around or I fear the Blackhawks window of opportunity will close before it even opens, and playing in the West with the great young teams will be challenging...also, St.Louis is already a terrific young team and still have a bucketload of prospects ready to come up. Columbus is also good and young and has what may be a star in the making goalie. In short, It's not gonna be easy for an organization that makes snaufs like the hawks have been making. Clean it up Stan

Brian Anderson traded to Red Sox for Mark Kotsay
kwolf68 replied to Jimmywins1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) Defensive measures for Kotsay won't say much the last two years because he didn't get enough tries out there. So I'd like to see him in the OF live to know if he can play acceptable D out there still. He certainly was very, very good as recently as 3 years ago, and 33 isn't exactly ancient. I guess we'll find out. Something else to consider - it is not outside the realm of possibility that Wise gets traded. He won't net much, probably less than Anderson, but it is possible. Agree with everything except this one it is not outside the realm of possibility that Wise gets traded I can't see Wise having any value at all. Good kid, tries, made a nice catch last week, but is just not a major league capable hitter. -
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) I'm glad to see Ozzie giving Richard his due. Sounds like Richard has a legit shot of being in the starting rotation next April. Ozzie is giving a pitcher who is terrible right now (Jenks) his back...you can bet your tail if a pitcher goes out there and wins for the Sox, Ozzie will have his back too. Ozzie isn't as much of a nimrod as some thing...he wants to win BADLY. His suspected vendetta v. Brian Anderson was proven to be an urban legend...if you play well, Ozzie will get you out there. Richard is getting another start I bet.

Brian Anderson traded to Red Sox for Mark Kotsay
kwolf68 replied to Jimmywins1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:43 PM) That's basically where Anderson was with the Sox, which is why he wanted to be traded. They dfa'd Kotsay...Kotsay is now waiver wire fodder. Anderson will be there one day, but not yet. I would have thought he would have still had value. Again, don't care so much either way, it's just perplexing. If Kotsay could provide credible play in CF, then I'd be cool with this trade assuming he can take his starts. If you put Kotsay in for Wise, then it's a grand improvement, but can you?
