  1. Will be tuned in tonight. Have really been sitting back seat to the Sox so far...with their less than great start and my interest in the Blackhawks...but with the Hawks close to elimination, the Sox seemingly coming around a bit I am excited for a baseball game tonight for the first time, really...since opening day.
  2. I was excited about this trade at first, but seeing the way Clayton Richard has pitched, knowing we'd have to give up him, our top pitching prospect and two others, I am thinking maybe we are OK with this. One thing about Clayton Richard is he isn't sceered...he's a bulldog out there on the mound, just like Burls and Danks. I know he doesn't 'wow' people, but I think we need to give this kid a chance. Word out of San Diego is they liked Richard A LOT.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) It's a timing thing, as long as he stays healthy, by rejecting the White Sox he didn't really lose anything, some team might get desperate between now and end of July and take his full 22m and give the Pads what they want, if not, it seems like the Sox will still be there for him So its more about the gurantee. Obviously the Pads got what they wanted from us. A deal had been agreed to, Peavy just needed to accept it.
  4. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) 2-1 post lilli, but we have been outscored 26-14 since he left. Time to bring him back.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) Kenny left the door open yesterday with the "as of yet" cavet, and Axelrod didn't close the door on this either. I am surprised more writers didn't pick up on what we got here at Soxtalk yesterday. I don't get what else could be there from Peavy's perspective. He asked for everything and then some.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) According to Barry Rozner, this isn't over yet. I hate you.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) Those conditions basically said "I'm not going to the White Sox" right off the bat. He knew and his agent knew no team would grant those conditions... not even the Yankees. Then why the dog and pony show you think? Was he hoping beyond hope the Sox would be that stupid?
  8. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) This is how I interpret it. Yea, when that was posted I was like WTF... I think it's very obvious, had we traded for Peavy under those absurd conditions this franchise would have been dealt a serious death blow. We would either lose Peavy in 4 months and the 4 young players we traded for him (that we could help rebuild with) would be gone. Or Peavy would come here and stay injured or under-perform and OF COURSE he wouldn't exercise his opt out, nor could we trade him somewhere (NTC), but he'd still hang around and suck money from the Sox. Just something about that entire deal stinks to me. Maybe Peavy is within his right to get the most cards in his hand given that he was going to a team/league he wasn't interested in, but it still looks crappy to me.
  9. So what Peavy wanted was... -the Sox to guarantee his last year, all 22 million of it -And the option of an opt out clause -(and not to mention it would cost the Sox significant resources in the way of prospects) So if Peavy gets off this year and pitches well, he'd have just hit the open market, and headed back to the NL If Peavy came to the Sox and sucked or was injured, then he'd just hang around for 4 years cashing checks from our organization. Is this how anyone else reads it?
  10. QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) I read somewhere that Kenny gave him until tomorrow afternoon.
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) So its good that school is over in less than a month so theyll have the whole summer to relocate? I mean its not like he was born in SD and his whole family is there. Everyone is willing to agree to this, Peavy just wants to make sure that he gets some "consideration" for his waiving of the NTC. This is standard stuff, even if Peavy told his agent: "Do the deal" Im sure his agent said: "Jake we can probably get you that 20mil guaranteed, lets just hold out for a few hours." There is no incentive for Peavy to accept it this instant, its not like every hour he waits a million comes off the salary. So he is putting the Padres and the Sox behind the 8ball, as both of them want the deal done and all they need to do is give him something. At least thats my opinion on this whole subject. Very plausible.
  12. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Between the real Peavy talk, there has been some classic things in here. No doubt...some of the real talent of Soxtalk has delivered today no question.
  13. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) I say we give them Broadway just for entertaining us for 12 hours, regardless of whether or not Peavy accepts the deal. LMAO. This was some funny chit here.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) Thats easy to get around, make him hate it here, trade him to somewhere he wants to play, he waives it. or how about WIN here, he wants to stay here and we don't want to deal him?
  15. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) Like an extra point and a half on his ERA once he leaves Petco and comes to the AL at the cell? Do you watch him pitch? Jake Peavy is a great pitcher. He has filthy stuff. A rotation headlined by Peavy and Buehrle is pretty damn good. You figure Danks will get it together and Colon has mostly been solid this year. We still don't have a 5th considering the way Floyd has been throwing daily BP to other teams, but even he should rebound at some point this year.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Yep, you can't trade Thornton. You'd want to give him a shot as closer first. You don't think a rebuild would see Link get a shot?
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) Why not trade Jenks? He's going to be getting 10 mil plus per year soon, and there's no reason to have a lockdown closer when your team is rebuilding. The biggest thing about rebuilding is you can't be afraid to lose. I didn't say we shouldnt. I said Id hate to because I like the guy, not because it would 'hurt' the team. The right decision is to move him...for all the reasons you suggest.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) I'm all for that. BTW when Josh Fields falls behind 0 and 1 so far this season, he's hitting .109 with a .292 OPS. Ugghhh...some pitchers in the NL don't even suck that much.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) Dye could get you something (especially if Reds are involved). Jenks is the one he should really look to move. I'd hate to trade Big Bobby, but he has great value and we could get a nice haul for him (at least you'd think).
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Geddy Lee is taking in the game today from behind the plate. How about if Rush just takes the field and they call the game? It'd be far more entertaining.
  21. Thank god for the Blackhawks, they have allowed me to focus my sporting energies elsewhere...however, it'll be back to baseball full-time when the Dead Things close the Hawks out (probably in game 5) and by then it'll just be a rotting corpse to watch. I haven't watched much baseball so far, but that which I've seen has been depressing. Now with Floyd and Danks pitching terribly this season is on life support. We have nothing to offer.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) As much as I agree with what KW said, sometimes it's better to keep this stuff out of the media. You don't want the umpires being on high alert and overreacting like they always seem to do. This is something that should have been taken care of by Ozzie already. +1. I don't know what purpose KW has to push this out for mass consumption. He is a brilliant man, so there has to be a reason, but honesty I think Kenny just talks too much sometime.
  23. I love Ozzie. He thinks Garcia should keep pitching, becuase there are pitchers out there that are 'very bad'...what a grand endorsement. Hey buddy, keep pitching, there are some who actually suck worse than you. No knock on FG...the guy was a stud when he was needed the most, the anti-Javy. He took his starts and gave his all. When you needed a good start in a big game Freddy delivered the goods. I have nothing but positive things to say about his time in Chicago.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 06:17 PM) Maybe we can have Seattle agree to let Lillibridge hit off a tee. Either that or 'coach pitch'.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) The White Sox offense hasn't NOT been out since Sunday. Ramirez/Miller/Lillibridge. That could be the worst bottom 3 in the AL. But we make up for it by having Owens leading following that up in leadoff.
