I don't know what Kenny is gonna do (none of us do), but it does appear the desire I had all season may be coming to fruition: That is to get younger, and get more athletic. To that end I want every player on this team to be a potential trade option save CQ, ARam, and some of our pitching. Bailey+Dickerson for Dye would be a fair trade in my view and a good one. The one issue with it is we are trading for potential and not for proven performance, and that could possbly backfire on our immediate plans (2009). I am fine with a rebuilding year as long as the playoffs is what comes from it.

I have to LMAO at this...Betemit and a couple throw-ins.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 09:57 PM) Exit polls showed that 52% of the population that made 200K or more voted for Obama. Quite surprising if you ask me. Not surprising at all. It is a myth that most rich people (by a large margin) vote Rep...MANY rich people vote Dem...it's just a matter of priorities of those rich people. I live near DC, my wife is very heavily involved in the non-profit sector, which is crawling with wealthy Democrats, who are members of foundations trying to get money for this or that cause. Also and this is off topic, but I find it important to mention; since learning more about the demographics of the people who 'give money', understand that Jewish people (who have been called tight by so many) are the most giving people on this planet. The amount of money per person they donate to charitable causes obliterates every other demographic. Jewish people also tend to be highly educated, successfull and quite Liberal as well. Sadly, I meet few Republicans at any of these functions my wife and I attend, but I do meet them. They are 'interesting Republicans'...One guy I met from Texas was a Republican and he was VERY RICH...he cussed a lot and liked to smoke weed (though we didn't agree politically other than on the one issue -environment- he was dumping tons of money into, he was awesome and a great guy). So I guess to find a Republican hanging with a bunch of us Democrats he needs to be high.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) This is all a smoke screen. How can Stone, Gonzalez, Cowley, etc say last week that expect some 'big suprises' last week to all of a sudden KW saying "Were happy with Fields at 3b, Getz at 2b, etc..." We all know how KW works, he flies waaay under the radar. All the moves he makes, are moves we dont even mention on this board or haven't heard of. I don't think Getz/Nix is Kenny just BSing, I think we will try to fill 2nd base with in house talent. That said, I do agree 3rd base seems like a smokescreen. Fields was utterly useless last year, has big holes in his swing and is poor defensively. I think he can improve (as he DID show that tendancy in the minors), but I think we will bring in a new 3rd baseman.

YES. Just move this stiff. Vazquez is a loser. The White Sox need winners to win. Be gone Javvy.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 12:18 AM) And fukudome looks like the worst acquisition of the off season. I agree and I know Kenny was hard after him. When he went to the Cubs we quickly scooped up Alexei and he was a total gem. I am GLAD Fukodome didn't sign with the Sox, because it gave us leverage to go out and bring in a kid like ARam.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) Whether or not trading him would be a mistake would have to be determined by what would be coming back. Look at Brad Wilkerson. Very similar players. Hit for a mediocre at best average, nice power, a lot of walks and a lot of strikeouts, and then Wilkerson went from a pitcher's park in Washington to a hitter's haven in Texas and he sucked even more. Sounds familar. Its possible, despite his age, we have seen the best of Nick Swisher. That $20+ million still owed to him just may make KW wince a little bit. He's not a CF. LF and RF and 1B and DH are taken. He's a 10th or 11th man right now. I agree. I thought Swisher was severely over-rated 2 years ago. His holes in his swing are many and the As correctly dealt him before diminishing returns set in. Even though Gio, Sweeney and DLS may never pan out in any big way, I still believe we could have gotten a far better bounty for our top 3 spects than a career sub .250 hitter who does little well other than walk and hit a homer now and then. The trade was a crap trade, but Kenny did make several other really good deals to make up for it (CQ, Floyd, Thornton, etc...plus the pickup of Alexei, which may have been Kenny getting lucky when Fukodome went with the Cubs, which directed his attention to Alexei, thank goodness)

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 12:46 AM) Thats what I'm afraid of....Swish being in the "Oz-house" like BA and never playing. I love Ozzie, but him not playing guys over personal grudges is f***ing stupid. If we do retain Swish (which we would be stupid not to) and he plays 2x a week, then he will be the same if not worse as this year. If you keep him, then go with him and ride it out. If it doesn't work, then deal with it, but don't go half in - half out. What evidence do you have that Swisher was benched due to a personal grudge by Ozzie? Swisher was benched because he sucked....he was an automatic out for most of the year.
-
Get more speed, younger would be nice... Let OC go, he's a prima donna and a playoff dud, deal Javvy, deal or let go 2 of our 3 designated hitters, find a 3rd baseman, 2nd baseman (if ARam moves to SS), Centerfielder. We may need to trade guys we otherwise would like to keep (Konerko, Dye) to get some new pieces in place. Our division is rebuilding...the Royals are slowly getting there, the Twins are already close and getting better...we have enough names that we could restructure our team from all or nothing to one of better average, more speed, with a reduction in power.
-
I am sorry, but Tampa Bay was the better team. Kenny Williams has a ton of work to do....Off to Bears football and Hawks hockey now.
-
Thome was an automatic out in the ALDS.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:32 PM) It's good, just inconsistent. You don't win 89 games being bad. This team will never win more than about 85-90 games though. Inconsistent = Not good or mediocre. AL Central helped this team. The talent is deficient, one dimensional. We need a new paradigm. The fact we have 3 or 4 players who are or potentially should be Designated Hitters is a testament to our problems. Hey, this team won the AL Central...more than I thought they'd do.
-
This just isn't a good baseball team. It's old, laborious, is full of poor hitters, who are all or nothing, can't run, and are crappy in the field. Off-season should be a total overhaul.
-
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:17 PM) Getting rid of Dye would piss me the f*** off I think Dye should be retained, but this team needs a major overhaul otherwise.

Ozzie screwed the pooch. We should have pulled Danks after Iwamura. I know he had handled Upton today, but he's been laboring a bit. Bad managing by Ozzie here. Longoria now up as the tie run, simply unacceptable considering how badly we've outplayed this team today. -

Yea, I think Danks needs to take a seat now. He's done a brilliant job, turn it over to the pen. -

Hey...its all good. Uribe got a big 2 run hit...Cabrera is a dog. Total dog, he's done nothing but look like a fool this entire series...every other player at least has done something decent in one of these games. -

DANKS = GOOD Of all the deals Kenny has made, this one may turn out to be the best. McCarthy may get it going, but this kid (Danks) has a very special look about him. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 5, 2008 -> 05:00 PM) God I hope so. It has to be. Outside of Uribe and Cabs crap, that was a good inning. The middle of the order guys did a great job...they swung the bat well, were smart on the base paths, they didn't force anything (Wise's hit was awesome). We got 3 runs...that's pretty good against a pitcher with Garza's stuff. But it does seem like clockwork Uribe and Cab would crap their shorts. Uribe swung threw a hanging breaking ball for strike two and strike 3 the ball wasn't close to being a strike. That dude is just a pure swing as hard as I can and hope the ball hits my bat hitter...I appreciate his contribution to 2005, but he needs to go. -

AJ with a big hit. How did we score that run? Getting on base and speed. WE NEED MORE of that. -

QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) I'm not a fan of Vazquez, but trading him would create a huge hole. I don't think he'll be dealt, especially because his value is currently quite low. I could be wrong though. One man's junk is anothers treasure. Maybe someone thinks they can 'reform' him to have a heart. If we deal Vazquez we obviously need a SP to take his place...thing is, I believe there are TONS who can give AT LEAST what Javy gives...mediocrity. The league is full of that. So my view is...find a mediocre pitcher for a fraction of Javy's take home and pull in a couple young guns in trade, let Coop sprinkle magic dust on their arm and see where it takes us. I still contend WE MUST move into 2009 MINUS Javy.
-
QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) Javy isnt going anywhere. Plus he'd be a number 4 pitcher so him being a back end pitcher isnt that bad. Could do a lot worse. Javy is gone. He's pitched his last games in Chicago... Ozzie questions his toughness and he melts down versus Minnesota, then he melts down versus Cleveland (both games were the only two blowouts that happenend in our 5 game losing streak)...So Ozzie questions Vazquez and Vazquez drops TWO TURDS smack dab in the middle of a pennant race..then Ozzie starts him in ALDS Game 1 and he melts down AGAIN... He's out of CHicago...the only way I'd want to retain him is as 5th starter/long relief.
