5/12 White Sox (18-18) vs LA Angels (22-17)
kwolf68 replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2008 Season in Review
Nice team. NOT. Too bad Kenny has built a team full of geazers and scrubs, because when this team falls out of it, he won't get s***e to rebuild. They are looking more and more like the Chicago Bears...simply no hope for the near future. The franchise is very close to being one of the 4 or 5 worse in baseball...only some decent pitching from some very unlikely sources (Floyd, Count, Danks) has made this season even remotely interesting. Of course, with the rest of the AL Central SUCKING butt, the Sox may well be 8 games below .500 at the ASB and still be only 4 or 5 games out of first. At that point I'd expect Kenny Williams to deal Adam Russell, Josh Fields, and John Shelby for Brian Giles under the premise that "we are gonna go for it". -

Ehren needs to go down, but dont call up Mac. Broadway stays as well as he'll be the first starter called up if injury. I say Dewon Day gets the first callup, although Adam Russell hasn't looked bad down at Charlotte either. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2008 -> 10:45 PM) There were 4 shortstops available this offseason via trade...Furcal/Tejada/Renteria/OC. I think KW chose wrong...at least we didn't lose a valuable commodity. No, but the year before Houston offered Willie Tavaras, Taylor Bucholz and Jason Hirsch for Garland. Buchholz has been an excellent pitcher for the Rockies...carrying a 1.74 era, 15ks, 7bbs in 20 innings this year as a setup guy Tavares is not Willie Mayes, but he's solid hitting .320 last year and always capable of 30-40 steals Hirsh still shows some promise as well though he is currently injured. They are ALL young guys with room to grow and improve. Meanwhile, we get an aging, downside of his career, over-rated shortstop who is playing himself into a type B free agent. -
QUOTE (fathom @ May 10, 2008 -> 11:28 PM) Mercy!!!!! Oh mercy me...god bless catastrophie...there's no way in hell....

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 10, 2008 -> 11:13 PM) Nasty pitch. Yea...this kid Lowe isn't a bum. He's got a helluva arm. If we get a run here, we'll be fortunate.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 10, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) Oh God. I was scared there. Really...if CQ goes down cue the Jerry Owens era.

Dye battling here

Carlos Quentin proving he is a big league hitter ..... amazing at bat...Lowe gave him some tough stuff and CQ finally rips one in the corner. I love this guy.

Inning over. Good job Dot.
-
Good move Ozzie getting him out. If we blow a 7-1 lead I'm going to be not so happy.

This season was supposed to be 'a run' with all these old guys, dealing away our entire minor leagues and this is what we get? The team could still rebound and do something a little better than mediocre, but I don’t see it, because mediocre is exactly what the White Sox are. We should have started rebuilding this thing as far back as 2 years ago, instead we get this same laborious crap for yet a 2nd straight year. Rebuilding this franchise will be a task of herculean proportions due to the dismal shape in which Williams has left it. Oh I know I know, Williams won a World Series, so no matter how horrifically he runs the team now, he has that special little get out of jail free card.

This idea that most Sox players are hitting 'below' their career averages is misleading if you consider the possibility that many of them are on the downside of their careers. When you create an aging team the possibility exists they all get old at the same time.

Rebuilding Twins only 1.5 behind the 'revamped' White Sox...Carlos Quentin has been a wonderful addition, but that's about it.

Jose needs to just pound the zone...he gets up in the count and goes to nibbling. Next time through this order he needs to stay with the hard stuff even on the pitchers counts. 3 IP, 1 Hit, 0 BB, 2 Ks and modest pitch count numbers says he's getting it done still. -

Thome a single and triple from the cycle. ...maybe he can hit another homer and just stay on third. -

If Count can pitch even halfway decent and early returns on Danks and Floyd hold up, this team could be scary good. I really thought the rotation would be the death of this team, but if it holds up...may be a fun summer. -

QUOTE (sox-r-us @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 06:21 PM) 3 outs in 11 pitches....not bad against one of the hotter teams in the league. It's (the Os being hot) a fluke. They are terrible. They have the worst team in baseball. At least the Giants can run Cain and Lincecum at you. That said, glad to see Jose strong early. -

Jose spotted a 3-run lead and he follows it up with a 3-up and out inning. Also seemed to be more aggressive attacking the strike zone. We need to get 2 straight from this Oriole team, they positively suck. Their lineup is laughable. Roberts and Markakis are good, but Mora? Millar? Huff? Hernandez? Fahey? ... Ill give Jones a pass since he's a spect, but this is a 100 loss team. -

Good start...keep it up, remember who is pitching for us. -
Would today be a good day to start Brian Anderson?
kwolf68 replied to Bubba Philips's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like Brian, but if he didn't start against Robertson, he's not starting against Verlander...Verlander is one of the last pitchers I'd run a kid against who hasn't even had an at bat this year (i think). -
Sweet...2 straight... Sox win and got to see a scene from Kingpin.
