QUOTE(Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) That's a lie. Can you imagine a pteradactyl (sp?) flying around in CF? That would be awesome. He'd almost be as good as Erstad. And what about a tyrannosauras rex (sp?) in the batters box? Can you imagine that strikezone? There is no way opposing pitchers could get the ball over the plate and over the kneecaps consistently. He'd be a walk machine, like a super duper Jim Thome clone fifty times over. It doesn't matter though because dinosaurs didn't exist since they weren't in the Bible and the world is only a bit over 6,000 years old. Anyone who says otherwise is possessed by a demon sent by Satan himself to trick you. LOL, yea I know it...and the earth is flat, the sun revolves around the earth, and men have one less rib than women.

Whatever. This guy is a disrespectful ass. His antics are/were a joke and I see no possiblity he breaks camp with the Sox unless we are hellbent on finishing in the bottom.
-
Dotel can be overpowering, but the guy has trouble staying healthy. THis is a big 2-year gamble...a bunch of gambles Kenny has made...IF they pay off he'll look like a genius...if they dont, when the reaper comes to collect in 2 years, the Sox will be a team in shambles. Hang another pennant at the Cell and I'll take 100 loss season in 2010.
-
Looking at this SOx team...I think they can be very good, but they have a bunch of guys right on the edge of breaking down. This organization will be the worst in baseball in 2 years, but if we get another Title out of it, I wont give a damn. There is absolutely NO FUTURE in Chicago, but Williams has put together a reasonable present. If we can find someone in the rotation, if our AARP guys stay healthy and we get comeback seasons from some players we count on then this team could make things interesting.

Come on, ease up on the country music. I think Nick is from West Virginia....that state just got indoor plumbing not long ago, so other forms of music have yet to filter down to them.

I like Swisher, but I don't like the trade even though i can see the reasoning behind it. That being said, for 2008 at least this will clearly be a better baseball team than the sludge we put out there last year and it has potential to be better than 2006, because that year the pitching was awful. I do believe we gave up way too much for Swisher, but he really makes this a much more competitive team, at least 3rd in the ALCentral. Right now, on paper, I still don't see it...Contreras, Danks, Floyd? This crew is going to top Det and/or Cleveland? Dont forget we compete with the other divisions as well. Again, I don't see it, but unlike prior to this deal I can't be as confident we won't make post-season next year. i still dont think we will, but the chances have gone up. Swisher is a warrior of a player and fits into our team wonderfully. I mean...the cost was high and it hurts, but we just replaced Darrin Erstad with Nick Swisher. And not one single player who figured to be a contributor on our 08 roster was moved.

No matter what you think of the Tribune, it WAS a very high price to pay and the writer makes points that (for the most part) can't be argued. I agree with the poster above who mention Richar and Quentin's averages in the majors have to be taken with a grain of salt. I don't believe this trade puts the Sox into the playoff chase and I don't like the deal, but we are better and 90 losses definately won't happen. This will clearly be a +.500 team, which means if a few things go right here and there the team could slip into the playoffs. But I wont hold my breath on it.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 09:38 AM) Hey, if you drive the limit and use your signal, you better believe you get a pat on the back from me!!! From someone with a five year old strapped in the vehicle, I hate the blatant disregard for traffic laws that is such common practice these days. Here here. I think it should be harder to get a drivers license than a gun personally. Too many idiots are driving and it's costing a lot of anguish, death, and unnecessary expenses. Sorry for the hijack. As to the topic, I think it's a sad thing when we have to celebrate guys like PK and THome for doing what they should be doing anway, but because so many don't do what they should do, PK and JT deserve kudos for putting up great numbers with NATURAL talent.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) I would really like to know why a lot of people are against getting Crisp. My concern is cost. Boston really is tough to deal with these days. I could see Epstein wanting DLS and another good prospect for Crisp. Probably something like DLS and Sweeney for Crisp is what he'd want. They don't need anything in Boston, Ellsbury is better than Crisp and adding more depth to the minors allows them to stay on top...forever. I wouldn't mind Crisp, but I doubt they'd take a mediocre relief pitcher, which is something we do have somewhat of a surplus of, between Chicago and the minors.

The game was awesome last night, but Khabi still worries me. I thought 2 of his goals were soft, although the Kapitor goal was a rocket. The first goal he just got knocked down, no biggie. Then after the Kings cut it to 4-2 late in the 2nd, Khabi gets himself a penalty putting the Kings right back on a PP. Had they scored there the game may have gone differently. I appreciate Khabi's fire, but he's one of the few veterans we have playing prominent roles...this young team needs THOSE Guys (Lang, Sopel, Khabi) to do things cleaner and better than the other guy. Lets get Buffy on Sat...Pat Kane is on a goal scoring slump, Pat Kane is from Buffalo, Pat Kane has 150 people coming to see him Sat, Pat Kane's goal scoring slump will end Saturday. -
Who said yes? Picking up Royals rejects would be just lovely though.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) No, he's not untouchable. What the 05' season does for him is give him a "track record." It doesn't give him tenure, or make him untouchable. I don't blame people who criticize him. But when you take a step back, and look at what many here were saying about him from October of 05' until about September of 06', it's quite humorous how quickly people changed their viewpoints and opinions. Really laughable, actually. No one is arguing that he's untouchable. But he can only put the players on the field. And when they don't perform, well, they don't perform. It's then that I look to KW's track record and give him some slack. Not a never-ending rope, but some slack. NOW...i dont advocate firing him, not at this point, but the longer we get from 2005, the worse we get, the more insane Williams silly trade desires become, the more he stupifies himself by shopping garbage, the more depleted our farm gets, the more trades he doesn't make at peak value then 2005 can be viewed in light of what it really was and demonstrate itself as an anomaly in the life of GM Williams and not the norm.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 12:35 AM) Good thing we waited until after losing Fernando Hernandez to do this. KW strikes again. Why does this shock you? ...I think Williams is becomming somewhat of a joke. ... From his inability to properly gauge peek value of his aging vets to his absolutely ludicrous idea to shop players that completely suck/past their prime/not productive/overpaid at the deadline last year (Count) shows me the guy is becomming like that stooge in your fantasy football league who tries to trade you Cedric Benson for LaDainian Tomlinson.
-
Because the Sox won it all in 2005, Ken Williams is considered untouchable. Yes, he deserves some credit there, but it's not 2005 anymore. He now oversees one of the worst teams in pro baseball and one of the worst farm systems in pro baseball. I dont know when the time comes, but he DOES NOT have tenure. Either he turns this thing around or finds work elsewhere in my view.

QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 9, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) ESPN News today is saying that the Reds are confident they will obtain Bedard. Because they have attractive prospects, we dont.

Time to up the ante: Sign Bonds to a 1yr deal
kwolf68 replied to scenario's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
LOL. It's funny, Bonds is available and virtually NO ONE has ANY interest in him. His shelf-life is used up. He got his record, he used his recliner, he even managed to become the #1 most disliked player in polls of players. His selfish, egotistical and primadonna ways made him an odious cancer upon which baseball's foundation lie. The quicker this piece of trash leaves the game, the quicker we can get back to the business at hand. He was only useful at one time because -like others have eluded to- he is a great hitter...and WAS a great player. Now, his only purpose on the field is simply to draw walks, hit a few homers, and draw a consistent chorus of boos from baseball stadiums everywhere. He is useless to the White sox, a team in need of speed, defense, youth, and enthusiasm. He has none of the aforementioned and we have a player already perfectly capable of manning the DH position. The supporters of this insane move can't honestly think this is good for the White Sox and in their clouded state they think this will 'steal' some of the thunder the Winter Meetings gave to Detroit and in an even more deluded sense, some think Bonds can actually help this team win. Both accounts are folly, complete and total folly. The White Sox will have enough issues next year to deal with without having this circus hovering over the cell all year. Bonds is a wart, a bad ugly, hideous wart and any luster still left on the 2005 World Champions would be effectively eradicated the moment this jackass became a member of this team, making the White Sox nothing more than frolicking jesters at the baseball circus. HELL NO TO THIS CRAP!!! -

Personally, I liked Sharp on the first line. And what's this news I glanced over this morning? Jason Williams could miss 3 months? Geezus H... -
With the failure to address the CF issue, Brian Anderson would have come back on the radar whether or not he was improving his 'tude or still partying every night. So, in the least...this is NOT BAD NEWS. I'm not holding my breath, but this franchise needs every little morsel of good news it can get.

QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 02:09 PM) I haven't heard any rumors about the Sox talking to him or anything, but apparently the Brewers are going to non-tender him. Am I nuts or would he be a half decent option in left? .901 OPS against lefties last season. I thought we acquired Quentin to play left (or right and Dye in left).

Did this guy hit .220 last year? And he gets this? He's banking in on reputation...the guy is on the downside...we have enough of those players.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 12:29 AM) Article in the DH today says Hawks are after a #1 D man. Our blueline is what will prevent this team from doing anything great this year. We have some scorers, we have depth, we have more than 1 good attacking line, our specials teams is coming on, and both goalies are playing well lately. However, the amount of garbage goals, odd man rushes, stupid passes across the crease, turnovers will do this team in. I'd wager at least half our losses are the direct result of poor play on the blueline. I don't have the stats in front of me, but I know the Hawks are way up there in goals scored...we can put the puck in the net, but need to get tighter on defense. I don't know what we'd have to deal to get some help on the blueline, but we sure could use that help. McCabe is too expensive + Toronto is coming on a bit. We'll see. -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 09:16 AM) Read KW's quotes this morning. He thinks he has a championship team. The guy has totally lost his mind. Kenny Williams is trying to change reality by changing the perception of that reality. Reality will meet us next April. This is still one of the worst teams in the American League.
