2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
kwolf68 replied to kapkomet's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) Other teams will do some things to neutralize our surprising speed, one of them is softening the ice, one of the others is play extremely physical. As expected. It's up to our team to adjust...they will, but it takes time. We still haven't had a consistent rotation of lines all year...one guy injured, that guy injured, illness, flu, groins, shoulders...and until recently the goaltending was very sparodic. All this with an incredibly young team and the team is right in the mix. All in all, Hawks fans GOTTA BE HAPPY. -
Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
kwolf68 replied to SoxFan1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am and have been very critical of Kenny Williams, but I like this move. The bad and good of the move in my view The bad: 1-Another solid young prospect leaves the White Sox system. An already depleted system takes another hit The good: 1-Only one bad thing (above) 2-We didn't deal any pitching. If you'd have told me we'd acquire Quentin I'd say, 'oh boy...there goes Chris Carter and Jack Egbert'. To get out of this deal merely trading a 1st base prospect in A ball is pretty good work 3-Carter was in A ball last year. His ETA is still 3 years minimum and that's if he ever makes it. A ball players are total shots in the dark 4-Quentin IS ALSO quite young and is a very good outfielder and potentially a well above average to great hitter. The other thought I have is this... I expect Dye and Quentin will hold down the corner OF spots, leaving Josh Fields without a position (assuming he and Crede remain in Chicago). This tells me that more deals are coming. Neither Fields, Dye, nor Quentin are CF candidates so I'd expect to see Crede or Fields dealt this winter. I'd expect one to be dealt for a CF candidate and a prospect to refill Carter's spot. -

The 2nd period was about the worst period of this entire year. The guys are young, still learning, the Blues brought a tough game + the ice was crappy I thought. St.Louis deserved this win...we move on and get ready for some payback v. the Nucks Wednesday. I FULLY EXPECT in that game to see the Blackhawks bring a more physical presence. -
QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) I'm not really into the MC5. Given the kind of bands I like, I thought I would be, but they just don't do it for me. KICK OUT THE JAMS...MutherF*****s. MC5's role in the evolution of hardcore rocknroll can't be over-stated.

QUOTE(Markbilliards @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 12:42 PM) Why do you think LF would be less demanding? I'd think that'd be worse because there are more hits to left than right. Unless you just mean no throws from RF to 3B? Id rather have a quicker RF than LF as you have more margin for error playing left, because the extra bases are coming right at you, whereas, taking the extra base is going away from the RF. So the arm is part of it, but quickness in getting to the ball is another. If Dye's arm is markedly better than Fukodome's then I'd keep him in RF. If the arms are similiar, I'd take the guy who can run better.

Fraser is one of the three guys we got in the Zhamnov deal with Philly (Vandermeer being one of the others). He'll be given his shot tonight to see what he can do. I like his spirit and grit, but he needs to play disciplined and smart as well. -

Fraser needs to keep his beehind out of the penalty box. Otherwise, I like his grit. -
QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 08:32 AM) Figgins 2B Cabrera SS Thome DH Dye RF Fukodome LF Rowand CF Fields 3B AJ C Kotchman 1B I kinda like this lineup as well, but I think Fukodome may end up in RF with Dye moving to LF, just an idea. I heard Fukodome can more than easily handle RF and Dye coule probably be rejuvinated by moving to a less demanding position. Now...if we were to trade PK and Crede, it would get us back more than Figgins and Kotchman in my view.

Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand
kwolf68 replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I dont think the Bux would want only pitching. They have some pretty good young pitchers now. Their team sucks...I think it would take 3 prospects, a combination. And no way in hell will they take Uribe...he's too costly. I think Sweeney and Broadway or Gonzalez would be the starting point in any deal for Bay. Re Fukudome, I'd love to get him. -
Charles Martin's hit on McMahon
kwolf68 replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) He also died a few years ago at age 46. J Mac wasn't this innocent little player. He was cocky. Martin claimed that he never meant to hurt him that bad, but just to rough him a up. Cocky != (or , or does not) equal a premediated hit on a player not expecting it. Martin's hit was bush league, PURE and total BUSH league. What dirty stuff did Mac do on the field? None is what. Martin came onto the field in that game with a towell listing the numbers of Bears players he wanted to take out. I blame that on the jackass Forrest Gregg. -
QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 04:57 PM) I'm feeling they're a mess. Too cheap. Small market thinking. Two shortstops. Two third basemen. No LF. No CF. No leadoff hitter. Shortage of starters. Shortage of relievers. Lots of corpse ball for your viewing pleasure. The White Sox remind me of the punk band Flipper. At one time Flipper had ONE guitar player, and TWO bass players. They were clearly a band of limited musical vocabulary and they had no chance of 'greatness', because they were, in short, a clusterfook, but they did scare the hell out of people and were oftentimes interesting, but you'd never confuse them for anything more than the heap they were. The White Sox are Flipper except with one difference. The players in Flipper knew they sucked and didn't care about it. Kenny Williams thinks this franchise is in good shape. I think Flipper was smarter.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 02:38 PM) Havalt needs to be healthy though as well. Most Blackhawks fans will be holding their breath with this guy. If he plays, this is a seriously dangerous team. I'd like to have one more high quality, do the right thing all the time veteran player along the blueline, but i doubt it will happen. I'd love to get someone like Chris Chelios, circa mid 1990s. -
The only way I'd deal all that stuff to get Cabrera is if I thought it made the White Sox frontrunners in the American league. trouble is, this deal wouldn't even make us frontrunners in the AL Central, so I wouldn't do it.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) Might find out more after practice, or maybe it's nothing, but someone on Stuy's board said Colin Fraser is skating, and Williams is no where to be found......I thought Williams came back after the high stick, but I'm not 100% on that. Jason Williams did come back last night after the high stick. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 10:17 AM) Koci wanted no part of Roy. As soon as they threw the gloves down, Andre landed a couple of bodyblows and Koci took him to the ice to end the fight. He was scared to death. Maybe so, but Koci is still recovering from an injury. Maybe he is still gun shy with his nose and all. He took Boogey out opening night and we need toughness, because I gurandangtee you people are going to start going after our young guns (Marty, Kaner, JT). -

Not a bad game. positives -5-1 winner...thats SVWEET...much larger than the recent Canadian trip -STK line is mad. Steve has a great analysis of them playing the 2 line together above. -Khabi. Made some great saves tonight -MARTY is filthy. -Kane is bad negatives (not many) -Koci got off to a slow start in his scrap with ROy tonight. -Khabi didn't get the SO. -Attendance..still laging, but its early, it was midweek v. TBay. It'll come 2nd half -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 01:43 PM) Someone giving them that is lunacy, asking is smart. You have to start somewhere. Trouble is, if you are so far out of the park you turn people off. I think Texas did that. They heard the initial offer and it was so obscene Texas just shut down negotiations. This isn't Willie Mayes here, this is Coco Crisp, a career average hitter. Yes, he plays good defense, but Brian Anderson plays good defense. If we are going to part with multiple prospects, then the player has to be a major upgrade over what we currently have. Crisp isn't that and least not to this degree. And trust me when I say I am no Brian Anderson fan, so I'm not coming from that perspective either. Three prospects isn't even an initial offer, it's a joke.

I think Sammy is a healthy scratch for tonights game. -
The Red Sox are idiots. they are a good team and a good org, but they are idiots. Asking for 3 prospects for Coco Crisp is lunacy. I don't think I'd even give them 2 prospects, unless one was a dud. I'd give them one good prospecst and one slug...I'd maybe deal Adam Russell/Oneli Perez + Heath Phillips for him, but if they are thinking of a deal like Gio, Sweeney, and Shelby they can go play in traffic. Epstein is on acid.

This is as excited as I've been since opening night and I've been pretty excited (mostly) with the team this year. I just want Marty to survive this game tonight, nothing more/nothing less. -
Ohio State has played who again this year? Missouri is the team I think will win the entire shebang.

QUOTE(Shadows @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) awww.. don't be upset the Bears season was ruined by Dolphins And I don't think it takes a "homer" to realize that an undefeated season, the only ever, is better than a 1 loss season.. I dont really care if you think the Bears team was better.. The 1972 Dolphins team was not even the best Miami Dolphin team of all time. In fact, the 'great one', Mr. Shula himself is directly quoted following the 1973 Super Bowl saying the 1973 team was BETTER than the 1972 team. In fact, I tend to agree with him, the schedule was much tougher and they dropped two close games that year...but mostly Miami was blowing out people in 1973, whereas in 1972, they just allowed the horrendous competition they played to lose games. And as far as people putting asteriks beside the Pats season this year, I believe the 1972 Dolphins deserve one as well. The team they played for the AFC Title in 1972 was Pittsburgh, who had just beaten Oakland on a most controversial call the week before. So the Dolphins probably should have been playing the 1972 Title game in Oakland and not in Pittsburgh, which in my view (at that time) was the much tougher draw (Pittsburgh was still a couple years away from greatness). -

Im really sick of the injuries and ill health, but that being said the Hawks are still hanging around the top of the Western Conference standings. Considering the games lost due to injuries/illness, I think the Western Conference best be worried about this young team. Khabi and Patrick are looking solid in the pipes, and I love having two netminders just in case. If havlat can come back and actually play this season and we experience no more issues, this team is playing playoff hockey this year, book it. It was a pain to see Rene Bourque have his best game of the year only to get injured in that same game and he goes to the shelf for a month or more. Sharpy has been a MAN and he goes down for a few games, JWill goes down after getting hot. Hell, even back when Sopel went down, he was playing what I think was his best hockey all year. It's frustrating to see this, but the team is showing toughness and character making me think if we do make it to the playoffs, the Blackhawks (or Black hawks depending on your era) will be one tough MOFO out for anyone we play. Rest assured also, that Detroit would not want any parts of a 1/8 matchup with us (should it come to that).
