I don't think we have the goods to get Miggy, but he is the exact type of player I'd love to move on at whatever cost is reasonable. I HATE dealing for aging, on the downside of their career, one year too late players. We have several now we can't get rid of and KW is still obsessed with acquiring the best team he can...for the year 2002. However, Miggy isn't this type of player. He is young and gifted beyond belief. He would immediately become our best player BY A MILE. And he'd be young, so we wouldn't have to worry about quickly eroding talent (which will happen with almost every other player KW has a woody for, see Erstad) In the very minimum, this deal would cost us Fields and Gonzalez...however, that would only be the start. They would likely also want another prospect, be it DLS/Sweeney or whoever. And even then Im not so sure they couldn't get a much better package from the Dodgers or Angels. I want to get YOUNGER...with the case of Miggy we also GET BETTER.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 10:28 AM) I'd rather not pay Hunter and save the money for Miguel Cabrera. That guy loves Ozzie. Show him the money and get him in shape. He would be awesome at USCF. I agree and then we could move Crede and/or Fields (if one isn't in the Miggy deal) for a CF. I don't like the idea of KW trading good chips for a bunch of aging, on the downside of their career players...but Miggy is an elite player, a YOUNG elite, proven player. I'd break the farm for him.

Great...we get older with this deal. You need to trade AWAY guys that are ready to decline, not trade FOR THEM. It is true, the White Sox are trying to become the Midwest version of the Baltimore Orioles.

The strike of 1987 was the greatest thing that ever happened for the Washington Redskins. Had no strike happened, the Bears win the Super Bowl.

A couple players who have played great of late are Patrick Sharp and Magnus Johansen. I thought MJ was very VERY iffy against the Wild, but he's really coming on and has been a great addition to the hawks blue line. This is as excited as I've been for hockey in over a decade...and I say that KNOWING there is still a lot of hockey to play with one very young team missing arguably its top player. My early season thumbs up to Adam Burish for showing serious moxie and grit Robert Lang for showing many of us naysayers wrong...looks like Langer is gonna be a decent addition The kids, JT and PK...only a matter of time before they are running this league Magnus for really settling in nicely after coming over from Europe Khabi...he is playing goalie like the elite goalie he is. Could be the difference in a playoff chase Brent Sopel for giving us a heady player on defense To David Koci for teaching Boogieman a lesson about dirty shots at our smaller guys. Koci beat down one of the games biggest goons. I loved it -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) With the depth we have at SP, that'd be a fairly stupid position to lock yourself into. Well Balta, I guess Kenny is really pretty stupid, because part of the deal for Dye in Boston was Kenny's interest in Justin Masterson, a Starting Pitcher in their AA. The poster who followed you also made another great point that I don't need to expand on.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) I made one post at that place and got the boot. I'm pretty sure it didn't include anything Charles Manson would say. LOL...you may have caught them on a slow day. being banned after 1 post is insane. And I believe you, it probably wasn't crap ANYONE was upset about except one of their idiot moderators. And heck, the mod probably wasn't mad about it either, just had a banning fetish.

QUOTE(chisoxt @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 06:43 PM) Yep...Count me among the ban-ees as well...Ironically, that site has a fabulous set-up. The Nostalgia is great, the interviews are good and some of the forums like Talking baseball, What's the score? and the Parking lot are worth reading on occassion. Ironically, the hardest thing to do over there is objectively discuss White Sox baseball. Part of the fun of being a fan is to criticize and discuss bone-headed moves like bad trades or management desicions that negatively affect the team. Instead, insipid things like "Where the best churros stand is" seem to be the norm over there. I still lurk over there, but I noticed that many of the regulars over there from a few years back (whom I enoyed reading) are not to be found. Too bad. I totally agree with you and it's what attracted me to that site to begin with. However, once I left I never EVER went back except just to check and see if my lifelong ban was still in effect, which it was. Im thankful for that as well, as I won't have any incentive to repost there and I have no interest in a 2nd username.

Kenny won't deal a SP without getting one (even a prospect) in return.

LOL at the list of 'banned' from WSI. That site is ridiculous. I got banned 3 times and after the third time I just said screw that place and left. I can't remember why I got banned the first time, but it came without warning of any kind (none of my bannings were preceeded by a warning). The 2nd time I got banned it was because someone brought up politics in a thread (which is forbidden) and I RESPONDED to that poster to get the political crap out of the thread and was banned. The mere fact that I responded to a political comment (I quote the other posters post) though i didn't make one myself was why I got banned. After I had gotten banned twice I tried to really be cautious and then got axed again when during the late season push in 2006 against Detroit I mentioned the Detroit score in a game thread and was sent packing for a week. Basically my post was something like this: -Way to go Paulie...Sox back in it. Dang, Detroit just put up a 2 spot in the 7th. I wasn't the only one banned...anyone else who mentioned our main competitions current situation that night got a week off. So I email the mod and asked what was going on. The interpretation was laughable and I just basically went off and told the dude the way the site was being run was a joke and to just ban me for life to which (upon just checking) they evidentally obliged. LOL. You have been banned for the following reason: No reason was specified. Date the ban will be lifted: Never I have been posting on various sites for years now and have never been banned at ANY of them, except for that one. That site is run by clowns.

I could not vote. Simply couldn't choose. Both are repulsive in their own special way.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 11:34 AM) I was there too. Great crowd, team looked solid. Kane has Gretzky-like passing touch and vision, im not saying he is going to be anywhere near as good of a player, but i see the skill that made him the #1 pick. Also the booing of Wirtz during the ceremony was classless IMO. Kane's vision is masterful. The kid is a born hockey player. The big deal is losing Havlat. How long? Right now we don't know, but he said that it felt the same when he blew out his shoulder the last time. ... I love Tuomo Ruutu a lot, but we all know the way he plays he may spend some time on the shelf at some point himself. /end negative cynicism of being Blackhawks fan --In retrospect, I am proud as hell of the first two games. This team has shown fight, toughness, moxie...something not seen with the Hawks in some time. We also outshot Detroit, something few teams do. This is a good hockey club and they are well coached. Its problem is youth and a key injury. -
Richar will never play SS. He was so bad at SS in the minors they switched him over to 2nd base. That is where Richar will make his mark if he does. I still believe we'll obtain a SS via trade in the offeason. Either a young prospect (Hu) or an established vet (Furcal). Yes, I think the Dodgers and Sox will hook up.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) I'm at work tonight, but following online. Are a lot of these chances legit, or just forcing shots? Sounds like the Hawks are making Backstrom work, just can't put it in the net. Some are yes. Admittedly, some of the saves have been basic chances, but Sharp and Havlat have had a couple really nice looks. For the most part the Hawks are outplaying the Wild, but there was about 2 minutes of the 2nd period where the Wild kicked our ass and that's when they got that goal. We just can't finish and yes Backstrom has been solid. -

Wild Goalie is playing well. I guess we've got double the shots. We just can't finish right now. -

Even though Burish got beaten on the goal (along with Khabi), I still love his tenacity. -

Excited about the season. I ordered my sports package from DirectTV last night and of this morning it said I had not ordered it. I still think the Blackhawks may be a year away, they are awfully young, but I love what Dale has done with this team. The franchise has a bright bright future and even if this year doesn't end in the playoffs. I got me a Super Bowl (Da Bears, 1985), got us a World Series, I don't really care about the NBA but am glad the Bulls won....the last piece of the puzzle is watching the Blackhawks hoist Lord Stanley's cup. Give it some time, but we're going to get there. The opening salvo begins tonight. -
We should get Andruw Jone and Barry Bonds...we could be on the cusp of building the best team in baseball... For 2001.
-
Never want to piss on the grave, but there is change happening with this franchise. They have assembled some brilliant young players who just need some time and experience. I'm ready to see this franchise back in the playoffs at the VERY LEAST and Wirtz's death seems to be another salvo that things around here are changing.

Kudos Josh.

I want Barry Bonds in the Cell
kwolf68 replied to Punch and Judy Garland's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I like the idea of getting Bonds. Anything to make this team older I'm all for. The perfect fit in the clubhouse as well. Of course, Barry still runs like he used to so he'll be a terror on the base paths. Shoot, this move would also open up the long-desired idea to try Jim Thome at shortstop once Barry becomes the DH. After this, then Barry can take to the streets of Chicago spreading his good cheer to all the people. After that...President Bonds as Illinois is the first state ever to give all their votes to a single candidate. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 11:30 AM) I still love the idea of Maicier Itzuris. I just don't know how the Sox can get him as I don't know if they have anything the Angels would truly be interested in. The Angels don't need anything. They have a good team and their minor league system is loaded with terrific potential to fill-in, replace departed agents or aging veterans. I guess they could use a bopper one of the corners, but they seem to have done fine without it.

Bill Hall in a deal involving Contreras. Shees...do it while they aint lookin'.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 12:13 AM) Straw Poll: Do the Bears make the postseason?? I say no. No. The defense is starting to get too many injuries and teams will avoid Hester this year (sure, he'll bring a few back but not as many). That means the offense will need to score more than 10 pts a game to win. Against some teams they won't be able to do that. The team has scored 3-13-10 offensive points in three games this year (26 total points) against defenses that have all been proven vulnerable. San Diego got rolled by Green Bay, rolled by New England, but looked like the best team ever against the Bears. Dallas gave up something like 70 pts in their first two with the amazingly bad Miami Dolphins even getting 20. It's not looking like a good situation. Still, if they somehow manage to win the next two they are right back in the drivers seat. Now I have no earthly clue how this will happen, but I guess it could.

Cedric Benson and Rex Grossman both suck
kwolf68 replied to Steve9347's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
As far as Benson, the jury is still out on him I will agree. He isn't getting much room to run so far. And I've only seen one guy (some dude named Walter something) who could actually gain yards without the benefit of competent blocking. Still, he isn't breaking many tackles, isn't alluding the defense much, is running out of bounds avoiding contact, isn't catching the ball, has already fumbled twice, and the first year in the league ran his mouth more than I care to mentio...in short, the anti-Payton.
