  1. Anyone who thinks Rex Grossman is an adequate starting QB needs their head examined. Madden, for all his bloat, basically pointed it out when juxtaposing Romo w/ Grossman last night. Sure, speil on about how Grossman has only played 1.5 years or whatever, but the fact of the matter the guy has horrible instincts, doesn't play well with any kind of rush (it would be great to NEVER have any pressure, but that's not realistic), has terrible accuracy, doesn't read defenses well, has poor field vision, and some of the worst pocket presence I have ever seen in a QB. Sure, we had a couple drops...as does Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, except Rex's fanclub feels compelled to speil on about how this guy dropped a ball and Rex had pressure. Just watch the guy play. He will be out of pro football in 3 years. He is utterly horrendous. He has been hidden because the Bears have played a crappy schedule, are (were) in a putrid division, and have gotten some swell breaks. NOW, it appears the North (save the Bears) has gotten better and the Bears will now need to make some plays in the offense with the defense not being as good as some think not to mention the injuries that are building up. I don't know if Griese is the answer. He very well may not be, but I see no reason why he couldn't have taken a mopup series or two last night just to get a feel for him. Meanwhile, we'll stick with Grossman until death to us part, sorta like that insidious playoff game against carolina when our coaching DID NOTHING to change the defensive gameplan against Steve Smith EVEN WHEN our CB had gotten injured and we had a PRACTICE SQUAD player covering one of the most electric receivers in football. Needless to say, Steve Smith blew up all over Soldier Field, but Lovie could have said, "this is our gameplan." The Sox were horrible this year, and now this? I'd love to think the Blackhawks could do something, but I still think they are a year away from the playoffs. Whatever the case, this football season just got real s***ty real fast.
  2. Kudos to Owens, Fields and Thome for manning up against a great pitcher tonight.
  3. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) Fields' batting average may suck, It's better than half the lineup we had in there tonight, not including himself. So if Josh sucks with the BA, what is the excuse for these bums who not only DONT average what he averages, but CANT HIT the ball as far as him. I still can't figure out why Josh has become the whipping boy this year...he's the one guy other than our pitchers who has given me hope that next year may not be a total sham.
  4. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) It is a shame because clearly he is overmatched. They have no one else at the moment though, and decided not to pursue anyone else since they were so far back. Might as well see if Gonzalez had anything, now they know the answer for sure, he doesn't. This is why I think we are run by suspect individuals. We should have KNOWN Andy wasn't anything before being put into position to take this 3rd base spot. Most good scouts, most good GMs KNOW if a kid has what it takes. The fact we are left with Andy playing full time 3rd base tells the baseball world that we don't have a clue and worse yet, we don't have much talent in this system. Maybe it's glass half empty syndrome, maybe it's the worst year I can ever remember for the Sox...but this seems to be a VERY sad situation.
  5. And ya know...Maybe I read it wrong, but there was an article on whitesox.com where Ozzie basically called out Josh Fields; saying he needed to this crap or that to help the team. Now, I don't doubt Josh needs to learn, but dude is +20 homers and is hitting for a higher average than half the slobs Ozzie rolls out there every night. Can't Ozzie tell this crap to Josh without spouting off to the media? We know Josh strikes out too much...and JOSH probably knows it. Why sound off like this? Especially when the boozos beside him are WORSE? If anyone needs to be called out, it's these .220 average, 1 homer, no defense butt buddies Ozzie rolls out there every night of the week and not Josh Fields, who at least has provided some value to this franchise (that is besides HOPE).
  6. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) Agreed. For me, the worse part is how unfair it is to Andy. And the thing is, much respect to Andy for making it as far as he did, but there is absolutely no reason in the entire galaxy he should EVER be playing the hot corner at the major league level. EVER. And keep in mind if I ever saw some dude who made it to AAA (I was a bench scrub for a small college so I can't talk but so much trash), but just couldn't hack major league ball I'd be totally beholden to that guys talent. Andy has talent, he seriously does...but it's not major league talent, but our clownish team continues to fashion him anyway.
  7. Andy Gonzalez is now just sad. The fact this dude is actually playing 3B for this team is beyond joke status. If the season went long enough he'd be able to get his batting average to near .100 I don't want to call him trash, because he is a human being...but he has NO BUSINESS being on a major league playing field unless it's to rake the mound. But good ole' Chicago...has him as their starting 3b...Laughable, simply laughable.
  8. The trouble with 'rebuilding' after next year is this franchise will be baron, ....our tradeable pieces will be one year older , closer to free agency or proven to be not major league players. I find it laughable that people think bringing in Torri Hunter and 2 relief pitchers will put this team back in the race. LOOK AT THIS TEAM...it SUCKS. There are some good pieces to it, but the freaking Devil Rays have some "good pieces", the Royals have some "good pieces", the Reds have some "good pieces", and the Bux have some "good pieces." Lets s***can this joke team and bring in 6-10 new players for next year...90 losses again? possible, but also with a better look at 2009.
  9. I seriously want the Sox to win, but Jim Thome isn't huring my fantasy team either.
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) Despite its numerous problems, the core of this team is still very talented. And really...how many teams CANT say that? The real trick is finding a great 10th, 15th, 25th player. Further, the core of our team may be talented, but very one-dimensional. Put it this way, if the Sox can compete in 2008 then every team in baseball-with the right moves- can. This team just isn't that good. And tinkering around the edges and signing a big priced aging 'star' will do nothing but continue this teams descent into the abyss. In short, I don't think this team has a prayer in hell of competing next year. A lofty goal is .500 record with an eye toward 2009. Doesn't mean I'm a bad fan and certainly doesn't mean I won't root like hell for the team, but I just don't think this team is much. Sure, we have a few nice players (like all teams), but mainly this team is littered with suspect talent all around the field. Our good players? AJP-Solid hitting, but average at best behind plate Thome-Slugger, but is aging and injury proned PK-Slugger, and solid glove at first w/ limited range. Likely our best, most sure-thing player (not pitcher) Dye-Aging, slowing down. Would be a great fit as a support player, but this team would need him to carry it. Doubtful Crede-Back a major concern Erstad-Waste Cintron-Waste Gonzalez-Waste Pods-Injury riddled player, basically waste Uribe-Has some pop, but zero speed and terrible bat control otherwise. Defense is good, but he regressed this year in my view. Below average SS overall Owens-4th outfielder? Questionable if he can handle CF over 162 Richar and Fields-Show promise, but still some questions This is a World Series contender? In regards to pitching, we have 3 bonafide pitchers (Mark, Javy, Jenks), another good one (Jon), some decent arms who sometimes get outs (Thornton, MacDougal), young guns with some skill (Danis, Boone, Ehren), a total wildcard (Floyd) and a couple duds. There is a reason this is one of the worst teams in baseball this year. It's not because 2 or 3 guys are slumping or Thome was injured that week or our pitchers had a bad year in the pen...it's because this team stinks. 2005 was great, but 2005 was built FOR 2005, not for longevity. KW tried to milk a couple other years off that team by adding vets, trading youngsters for arms, and keeping the main guys here, but the team is just getting worse, because 2005 was a year unto itself and was not indicitive of what should be happening right now.
  11. Ahh yes, 1983...the year that got away. Some horrible base running cost us Game 4....Britt Burns, warrior that he was, gave us everything he had against the Orioles before Tito sent one deep. We had Lamar Hoyt v. Scott McGreogor for the pennant on tap the very next day, a virtual Sox victory. It just wasn't meant to be I guess, but I replay game 4 in my mind now and then in case i get to feeling to happy.
  12. QUOTE(gosox41 @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) That being said, KW has made the decision this year to keep the same core and to go for it next year. I wouldn't say this is true. It may be what he is saying, but if he really thinks this team can "go for it next year" without major changes the guy has lost his marbles.
  13. I predict he'll find another grinder (eckstein), commit to Owens in CF, trade Jon Garland for a couple middle relief pitchers, and talk about how the championship team is in place. I'd like to see full-scale alteration of this team...from bullpen to infield to outfield. I want to see guys that can hit and run, not guys who can hit, but not run or guys who can run but can't hit. The days of Darrin Erstad in the 5 hole or playing a corner spot have to end. No more lineups with no one over .320 OBP. I figure we'll bring in more aging, injury proned veterans on the downside of their career...the Sox will finish last again and we'll look to the minors for talent it just doesn't possess (with the exception of a couple good pitching prospects). I have no faith in this team or the leadership of it. Williams isn't interested in a full-scale rebuilding situation...he wants to trade talent to patch holes on this jalope of a team. Keep in mind, we don't need to pass only Detroit, Cleveland and Minnehaha...but also Kansas City. We are a last place team with last place talent and a couple 'veteran pen arms' will do little to change that fact. This team is broken down, full of washed up veterans and terrible younger players...this is the worst team I've seen in Chicago since 1989 and probably worse than that team.
  14. Im really shocked the Sox have sunk this low. Just last night we had one sinlge player in our lineup with an OBP of over .320 ... holy cow. And some think all we need is a couple bullpen arms and a CF.
  15. Andy Gonzalez belongs nowhere near a major league field, PERIOD. The guy just isn't any good. He'd be a kickass player in the local softball league and can even probably play an average minor league baseball, but the fact he is on our major league team is simply sad.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) Question for the board....is Richar playing himself out of a starting spot for next year? No, but he isn't playing himself into one either.
  17. Is it me or does Gavin Floyd look good early?
  18. I think most of us knew this day was coming 2 months ago...it was just a matter when.
  19. Id like to think we could get a SS in an off-season deal. I'd like one who is young, cheap, has good bat control, and can run....Furcal is an otpion if the Sox think they can compete next year, something I don't believe they can do...especially if they have to deal Garland or Javy to bring in Furcal.
  20. I hate the idea of dealing Garland for just a couple of relief pitchers...if we get another player like Ianetta in a multi-player deal then I'd be interested depending on what else is involved.
  21. Dont they have like 7 kids together? All under 8 years old? Or did they adopt?
  22. Eventually, we won't even need to wipe our own ass...some company will charge us 3bucks a shot to do it...it will cost them a billion dollars in advertising to convince us that whiping our own ass is somehow bad for us, but in the end we'll sell out. We are drones, pathetic drones. A freaking shoping list???? So, when we gonna cure some cancer?
  23. Stupid, Hilarious? I got one. This type of s*** right here is exaclty why I am into the music I am into...enjoy ... i laugh so hard I cry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi2CfuqcUGE
  24. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 6, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) What Ozzie really needs is a good bench coach. talented players. I don't think Ozzie is the greatest manager in history, but Casey Stengel couldn't win with this team.
  25. This is the worst team in professional baseball. Even our so-called good players just aren't that good. Then the other half of the team should not even be playing in the majors. we have about 10 25th guys on this roster. Pathetic fall from graace...lets resign them all, go get some more old grinders and go for the records next year.
