Chicago White Sox = Baltimore Orioles This team is not one or two players away from contending. We've got last-place talent in Chicago, and the minors hold very little promise. We have the fourth-highest payroll in baseball. Don't think failure is the result of not being aggressive in getting high priced veterans; we're not the Twins trying to decide which of our home-grown superstars we can afford to re-sign and which we'll have to let walk. No, our problem is that we've overpaid for players in their decline phase. This is a fact and adding Eckstein, Hunter, or Jones would be going down that same path of failure we've already seen from the Orioles and now the White Sox over the last two years. What we need is young, cheap talent in our system. What we do not need is more declining veterans with eight-digit pricetags and multi-year demands.

Any question if the Sox organization is likely heading for years among the bottom-feeders should be answered with not only the wretched product we have on the field now, but these callups to boot. This will probably be the worst/least upside/not ready group of callups in MLB.
-
Ozzie has proven he can lead a team to the World Series...the real problem is this team isn't any good. We have some of the worst players in baseball playing prominent roles for us.
-
Unreal. To get a SS we need to go after a young talent and start building for the future. I am in utter disbelief that anyone could think this wretched team merely needs a couple added veterans on an already aging and laborious team. Eckstein would be fine, if you dumped about 8 or 9 other players currently on the roster. This team sucks and David Eckstein won't make it but so much better.

Did Da Orioles Get More For Trachsel Than We Did For Iguchi/Mack
kwolf68 replied to whitesoxgt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We needed to deal Mackowiak for an aging A ball player so we could get Andy Gonzalez some quality at bats. /extreme sarcasm above Not sure about Dubee (the kid acquired for Iguchi), but overall the deals made were head scratchers with players coming to Chicago that possessed very little (if any) upside. Dealing quality players under the auspices of turning positions over to up and coming players only works if said 'up and coming players' can actually hit their weight. All in all, Williams and Ozzies management of this franchise has been very questionable at best since the World Series. -
Ahh, get some new hitters.
-
Does it really matter? This franchise is in shambles
-
Great move. I think this is the only problem with this team....100 wins next year is a virtual lock now.
-
To contend next year we'll need to be moved to the NL Central.

Mike Myers Signs/ Andy Gonzalez optioned to Charlotte

Im guessing we needed another veteran guy for the stretch run. -
QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 12:18 PM) I wonder if there is any way of getting Ellsbury from the Red Sox in the offseason... or to a lesser extent Crisp. Ellsbury will end up with the White Sox in 2023....We act like Dan Snyder of the Redkins used to act...signing all these big named players at the end of their useful playing career.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) no, it would not be awesome to have him patrol CF for us. Everyone is talking about Rowand's career year, Hunter is having a career year like no other. Plus, Hunter is old and isn't the defender he was 3-5 years ago. The Metrodome has taken a toll on his body and he has slowed down considerably. Others have mentioned this, and he plays probably the deepest CF in baseball as well. Hunter would not live up to the huge Gary Matthews-like contract he would get. I agree. Although the MO for the Sox is to get guys either after they break down or right before they break down. Hell, can't wait to see A-Rod playing for the Sox in 2017.

Yea, but this team is really close and expects to compete next year. /sarcasm This entire organization is in shambles. As bad as it was this year, Javy, Jenks and Buehrle have been amazing this year. Garland, most often, has been very good. Even with 3 starting pitchers pitching lights out most of the year, this team is still one of the 5 worst in baseball. We haven't won over 4 games in a row all season no matter who was playing/healthy. Our top average hitter is (Of all people) Darrin Erstad. Minnesota and Detroit have faced injuries but manage to avoid last place. This team is loaded with marginal baseball players with a few aging stars sprinkled in. Kenny may try to patch it together with a couple of support players or maybe he'll go out and sign yet another aging 'superstar', but I see no chance the White Sox get back to the top next year. And I don't know if I want to watch pretty much this same plodding team next year.
-
I'm glad we have him back. Still don't think we'll compete next year without several other major changes. Still, I think having Dye back means we can concentrate on bringing in a competent CF and compentent SS. If Crede is back healthy and the pen continues to develop like it has been (Wasserman for example) then we may be on our way. Ridding this team of the marginal and/or washed up should be the next move.

This is one of the many reasons when Mark Buehrle finally hangs em up, he will be revered in Chicago forever instead of given a nice passing thought as he strolled through the city on his way to 'bigger and better things.' When Chicago fans think the players really love and respect the city, the fans give the love back 10-fold. Ask Mike Ditka (a native Pittsburger), a man who embraced the city and its ethic and even though he become a mediocre coach after 1986, he is still considered by many (including myself) a hero to the city, a hero for playing on the 63 Champions, coaching the 85 champions and always speaking of Chicago like it was the greatest place on earth. Kudos to Mark...excited he continues his career in Chicago.

QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 12:49 AM) Bring up the young guys from Charlotte and give them some major league experience. Or just skip those guys and head down to Birmingham and call up at least two pitchers that come to mind. Wouldn't mind giving Broadway a look (and SIsco if he gets his walks down), but the rest of the rotation at Charlotte is laughable.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 12:46 AM) They need to make some major changes. Everyone keeps saying this team's not that far away from competing, and I disagree with that. The talent level on the big league team is not playoff level, and the core players (PK, Thome, Dye, AJ) look to be slowing down. This team has one of the 4 or 5 worst records in baseball and its an old team. It's one thing to be Kansas City breaking in kids like Teahen, Gordon, Butler, Buck and sucking...its another thing to be sucking with a bunch of broken down geezers. I want an entire house-cleaning. If Dye leaves then I would like an entirely new outfield and a new SS....we can survive with PK, AJP, Crede/Fields, Richar/Borgeous, and most of our pitching. It's the outfield that sucks ass. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 12:45 AM) The two players that absolutely, positively better not be on the 2008 White Sox are Pods and Cintron. And Erstad unless Ozzie signs a waiver to not start him every damn game. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 12:45 AM) The trade makes sense if they're intent on bringing him back as a free agent. Agree. I just didn't want to see this Cintron at bat tonight. We all knew what was going to happen before it even happened. Not saying Mack gets a hit there, but the goal is to NOT HAVE Cintron batting at that point in the game. Under no circumstances should Alex Freaking Cintron ever be in a batters box against JJ Putz with the tie run 90 feet from home and two outs. NEVER...Ozzie should grab a damn bat himself before subjecting us to that charade. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 12:43 AM) Rob Mackowiak needs to be brought back this offseason. His contract is going to get bought out and he's going to become a free agent. He grew up here, he loves the city, seemingly likes the organization and he's a good baseball player. Seems like a perfect fit. He also grew up a Sox fan. I'd love to have him back. He was actually playing good ball for us this year until we unloaded him for a 23year old A-ball relief pitcher. What was the point to even dealing him? So we could have clowns like Cintron batting with the tie run at 3rd in the 9th inning against jj putz? Pathetic. This organization is in shambles. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 12:42 AM) I predict that Cintron is rewarded for that amazing at-bat with a start tomorrow. Charlotte needs someone to play shortstop. Cintron is quite possibly the worst player on this team and that's saying a lot. -

One of the only times I am not happy Fields walked. What the hell do we do now? Cintron?
