QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) Now shockingly the Marlins had a lefty tandem up top also. Ozzie pretty much hasnt let go of the Marlins offense and is trying to elmulate it. Actually... it was a lefty-switch combo

I personally like him as a bullpen guy. From what I have heard, he can easily throw over 95, and has a good curve, which seems even better with how hard he throws. I think he will be a future closer.
-
those guys are assholes.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 05:34 PM) I mentioned this earlier as well. Yes, I didn't watch the game; but I'm listening on the radio and considering how 6 hits (i believe) occured in his last two innings, what else should I believe? It's probably a combination of lost stamina and San Diego hitters honing in on Danks. It wasn't that he got figured out, he was just missing his locations and leaving his pitches up. He was still jamming hitters and making them look foolish on the changeup.

Again, Mackowaik is beastly. I think he is a home run away from the cycle.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) Shouldn't he be granted the same excuses as Floyd/Danks though, as he's pitching in Arizona with a repetoire of pitches that would be greatly impacted due to the circumstances? There is only one thing we can do... wait for the season to start and see how these guys do.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) 2004, eh? What Gary Glover up to? Gary Glover was beastly for me in MVP 2003. Gustavo Molina showing some wood... is that like his second hit this spring? Ryan Sweeney showing why I love him so much

Lets put it this way... So far McCarthy has looked probably worse then Floyd and Danks.
-
Valido's grinder rating just increased 100x in Ozzie's mind.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) I'd bet a thousand dollars that all things considered, Wells would have a better ERA over a 162 game season this year than Floyd or Danks. I'd gladly take that bet.
-
QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 05:21 PM) Small difference though. Wells was leaving EVERYTHING over the plate, with little speed or movement. Yeah, I was just going to say that. Wells looked terrible. At least Danks with 3 2/3 and looked good at some points.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) It just boggles my mind how KW put us in a position where we didn't have a sure-fire candidate for the 5th starter spot coming into this season. It's as if he learned nothing at all from the 2004 season. I really hope he wasn't expecting Floyd or Danks to be a bonafide starter in the majors this year. Actually, from all I read, KW has been expecting big things out of Floyd, and even thought if McCarthy had stayed that Floyd could have beat him out. Danks wasn't considered at first but he has provided some good results. Also, this is much different then 04, as in 04 we only had garbage for the 5th spot. Now, we have several young talented arms.

Floyd has looked pretty good so far. but like someone else pointed out, I would wish he would attack the strike zone more often.

Mackowaik is a beast - rbi triple

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) When you suggest those two will be a "studs", and in the next several words mention Santana/Liriano, I can only assume you mean Danks/Gonzalez will be on a similar level. I meant that they would rival each other as two of the best lefty combos in the al central.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) Boy you're really going out on a limb there... Im not saying they are going to be as good as Santana and Lirano, I'm just saying Danks and Gio will be a good punch and be able to compete with them. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) We'll never have two pitchers resembling either pitcher, let alone both. Where did I say they'd resemble each other? Im just saying they will be a good 1-2 punch, IMO. nice play by Floyd. 1 out
-
Nice play by the Russian (is he Russian? His name sounds russian)
-
decent inning by Floyd... I would like him a whole lot better if he could get some better control. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) I really think Gio will be the salvation of the Freddy Deal before Gavin Floyd. Gio is going to be a stud, IMO. I think Danks & Gio are going to make a great 1-2 lefty punch, like Santana and Lirano.

8-7... EDIT: Where's Haeger???
-
This umpire sucks, and his strikezone is about the size of pea. That shouldn't be an excuse, but damn. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) I'm watching on MLBtv (as I'm sure others are) -- the strike zone is fine. Danks didn't walk anyone. Floyd has good movement on his fastball and on his breaking pitches, but he's not finding the zone. are you kidding me? This strikezone is horrible. For Wells, Danks, and Floyd Ah man, I forgot that the Tribe also has Shin-Soo Choo. If I was the Tribe, I'd rather have Choo out in RF then Nixon.
-
well, looks like Danks hasn't ran away with it like we all thought, and just opened up the gate for Floyd and Haeger to come and take the lead.
-
f***... 5th starter is still up for grabs. I don't get it. 1 inning, vs. the top of the order of the Padres, Danks aces them. But the next when he faces the bottom of the order he gets rocked.
-
wtf...

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) I thought V-Mart was going to play more first with Shoppach behind the plate. I'm not sure how it will go. I think Blake will play mainly 3B and RF, with Victor platooning with Shoppach at C and Garko at 1B.
