  1. I think this will be the opening day roster... SP: Contreras; Garland; Buehrle; Vazquez; Floyd/Danks RP: Jenks; Thornton; MacDougal; Aardsma; Sisco; Masset/Haeger C: Pierzynski; Hall INF: Konerko; Thome; Iguchi; Crede; Uribe; Cintron OF: Dye; Erstad; Anderson; Terrero UTL: Mackowaik; Ozuna DL: Podsednik Side Notes: 1. Sweeney, Anderson or Owens only make the team if they start in LF or CF, and with the way ST has gone so far, it looks like Andserson and Erstad will be the starting OF's, meaning Terrero would be the 4th OF since Ozzie wants Owens and Sweeney to play regularly in ST. 2. Perez can't play CF, and Ozzie already said Mackowaik wouldn't play CF, and Erstad can't go everyday. And he is probably worse then Podsednik in LF, so I don't see that happening. The only way Perez makes the team is if Mackowaik is traded. 3. It would be stupid to have 3 lefties in a 6-man bullpen, IMO, but could easily happen. Aardsma has pitched well and has more MLB experience then Masset, Haeger, and Logan, so I think he is a lock. Some say Haeger would be better served as the LRP, but Sisco and Masset could cover that role as well. It will be between Masset and Haeger, IMO. 4. The 5th Starter race has narrowed down a bit, with Danks steadily impressing everyone. It seems KW is very confident in Floyd. Haeger still has a shot, but it seems unlikely now. Right now I'd say it is a toss up between Floyd and Danks.
  2. I thought Sisco would be the long man out of the pen...
  3. not a fan, and defiantly not worth 250
  4. sounds like a laid back, cool guy... he doesn't sound like the type of guy who would bring 97. I am expecting a big year out of our set-up men.
  5. As long as he isn't corking or juicing, I really don't care...
  6. QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 07:42 AM) Reed would make sense. Esp. as he's been playing all 3 OF spots this spring. Besides BA, the sox don't have a reliable guy to play above avg. CF defense. Erstad has lost some steps for sure. If you can acquire Reed for not much--his value has gone way down--the sox should do it if they think he can hit in the bigs. Like you said, even if he's in AAA, he's a better bet to play in the bigs for longer than Jerry Owens. Ryan Sweeney and Luis Terrero are both above average defensively in CF... Back to Reed, I would be a big fan of getting him back. I have always liked him, and I think he has been underachieving these past 2 years. I think he can still turn into that .330/.370/.400 guy a lot of people thought he would be, like myself. And even if he does start at AAA, he still has more potential to be a leadoff hitter then Owens, plus he is a stud defensively. Like someone else said, he is like a younger but less polished form of Darin Erstad.
  7. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) He was on coke and heroin. I was posting about my support for him on another forum I frequent. Great story. Good luck to that boy. I hope he's clean and comes back beating the world. Oh... I thought it was painkillers, but thanks for clearing that up for me.
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) Rather it'd be Floyd as I don't want Danks to be rushed. And Charlie pretty much has no chance at the 5th starter's job, because he can't really make a positive impression in that thin Arizona air now can he. How is it rushing if the player earns the job?
  9. Lineup w/ Rowand (and Pods on DL)... 1. Erstad, LF 2. Iguchi, 2B 3. Thome, DH 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Dye, RF 6. Pierzynski, C 7. Crede, 3B 8. Rowand, CF 9. Uribe, SS eh... I am not a big fan of Rowand's offense and I think he would only be a slight upgrade over Anderson.
  10. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2007/c...&id=2792609 A great article about Josh Hamilton. It shows that we all can change. I believe he was addicted to pain killers, correct? I am glad to see him succeed. A 500 foot home run? He has Joe Borchard power, and overall better tools. If he stays clean and out of trouble, he can become the superstar he was once thought to become. And he is still relatively young at the ripe age of 25. Usually I don't feel sorry or root for guys like who have/had drug problems, but I am for Josh.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) Watched Prior's outing on TV today. Cub or not, it's sad to see a guy who had so much promise look as bad as he does now. He topped out at 88, but mostly was at 87 with his fastball. His curveball wasn't very effective and couldn't throw it for a strike. Gave up 4 runs in three innings, 3 walks and no Ks Weren't the Twins considered idiots for passing on Prior for Mauer? But if you compare the Twins organization compared to the Cubs and if it was reverse, the Twins probably would have turned Prior into a stud and Mauer would probably would be an underachieving backup up Catcher for them... that is how bad the Cubs org. has been these past several years.
  12. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 01:42 AM) Just got back from Tucson, not much to report. Jenks looks leaner Pauly looks bulkier and slower Ran into AJ after he got hurt and pulled from Thursday's game, he stopped and signed autographs for like 10 minutes, even though he was hobbling and clearly in a lot of pain. The stories are true, what a jerk he is. Oh and Tucson is still a lame city with more traffic than I remember. He looks about the same size to me, maybe even a bit slimer... very good article on why PECOTA and Baseball Prospectus suck... http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines
  13. You think we could have gotten a better prospect then Vasquez from the cubs?
  14. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) If it's his arm, changing organizations won't add velocity. It'd be different if Prior were throwing 94-95 mph and experiencing failure. Watching him this last inning, he threw 88mph for several batters; but couldn't even elevate a weak breaking ball. Right on. The scrub prospects have no entered the game. Give it time for Prior. he has barely pitched over the past 2 or 3 seasons.
  15. Give it another week. Like RME JICO said, pitchers need to stretch out their arms. They aren't going to have pinpoint control and have their best stuff through just a couple innings pitched. Give them another week or so, and we will be able to evaluate the pitchers a lot better.
  16. It is so tough to try and listen to two games at once...
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) If the White Sox were to reacquire Rowand and he were to depart as a FA, do people think he could qualify as a Type A free agent and bring the Sox 2 2nd round/better draft picks in return? If we could pull that off, it'd basically be a swap of Logan for a second and a sandwich and an extra year for Anderson in the minors, which might be tolerable if we're not planning on trying out Sisco as a starter. Well, Sisco is going to be the 2nd lefy/long man out of the pen, and is best suited for the pen, if you ask me.
  18. I think once Prior leaves the Cubs organization he will revive his career and become a solid pitcher.
  19. The main reason why people wanted Broadway traded before was because he 'wasn't a power pitcher' and had a low k-total. Now since he has a bad outing, he gets more hate. And he does have good control, but needs a little more work. He has a great curve, a 90 mph fastball, a decent change, and from what I have heard, he has developed a Garland like sinker. It would be stupid to trade Broadway now, as he does have potential to become a sold 3.
  20. It is spring training people... "Broadway sucks... trade him I tell ya, trade him!" Should we also dump Sweeney since he is having a bad spring? Hell, lets trade Garland and Konerko while we're at it.
  21. QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) Sox ruined my photoshop right after I created it I never realized how good looking BMac was... hubba hubba!
  22. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 09:10 PM) How was that a horrible article? They do have their bit of arrogance that sometimes shows, but I didn't see it there. Really, that was as objective an 'article' -- although it's really not an article, more of a feature -- as you're going to find. My hatred for BP is so deep that anything I read from them makes me eyes burn...
  23. So... it was a real pitchers duel, huh?
  24. I personally hate baseballprospectus, and I thought that was a horriblt article. They are some cocky SOB's, and it seems like everything they write is fact...
  25. this will be interesting to see what happens... Danks has really impressed so far.
