I've said it before. The bullpen is a crapshoot. It's not something you should invest in.

I just flat out don't understand. Why can't a pitcher use analytics and "pitch" and all that but still keep his fastball at 100mph when he throws it?

I'm half hispanic and all I can say was that the first time I hit one off the bat handle during a spring practice I almost quit the sport ?

This would not suprise me. With the amount of money involved in MLB I imagine those a stake in it would explore any edge they can get.

Yeah, for as frustrating as our hitting has been with (plug in the name: Moncada, Abreu, Grandal, Leury...), I just saw that we are now 3rd in MLB in AVG, 2nd in OBP, and 5th in OPS. I would never have guessed.

Understood, and good points. My point was just the basic one that he, even as a starter, continues to regularly throw 100. I believe he always threw with that velocity but Houston didn't have him dial it back, instead turning it into a four seamer with added spin rate.

Would Garrit Cole be the other side of the argument?

Even going in, the hype with this bullpen didn't sit with me. I might be oversimplifying but this is the thing. There are starters, there are closers, and there are guys who can't do either. I never got jazzed on these middle relievers because if they were worth the hype they wouldn't be in their role in the first place.

I hold hope that the reason the payroll is still a meager 130mil is in anticipation of these eventualities.

I think this team started the season believing its hype before earning it...

The sad thing to me is that the real competition determining who wins and loses does not happen on the field playing the game but in front offices with executives spending money. Even if my team were upper tier, how depressing it is to have to be rooting for and against a bunch of greedy suits and ties.

If you are having a pitcher "throttle back" in a scoreless extra inning game...you got a problem.

One consideration. Isn't this TLR's first time managing without Dave Duncan as his pitching coach?
