  1. Since they have to pay him anyway, maybe just send him to Charlotte and have him try to develop a knuckle ball. The new Wilbur Wood.
  2. Taking a 14 and 6 record and adding offense to it? That's just not right
  3. I think when the games look like they will mean something you just tend to be on your toes a bit more.
  4. Not saying they will win the WS, but one thing about it, when a Chicago team finally breaks through, they do it BIG. The dominance of the '85 Bears, the Bulls dynasty, '05 Sox playing near .700 for over half the season and going 11-1 in the playoffs...
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 18, 2016 -> 10:09 AM) If the White Sox were 5-7 right now but averaging 5 runs a game, would those of you so concerned be a lot happier? That would probably mean the pitching was not living up to expectations, a concern but a different concern. We are 8-4 but got there a bit differently than we might have expected. It is just a cause for wonder. Right now the glass is half full AND half empty. Well, in fairness an 8-4 record means a bit more than half full SFF
  6. No, we can't expect Frazier/Abreu to stay at .214/.163 BA..........any more than we can expect Latos/Rodon to stay at 0.75/1.38 ERA. Right? The point is one example of how our better than expected pitching has carried our worse than expected hitting. It should balance out, right? If so, will it balance out to something that will get 90 wins, 90 losses, or something in between? SFF
  7. 8-4 at at this point is great, no question. However, my fandom isn't just about looking at the standings with my cup of coffee every morning. I want to enjoy what I see on the field, and season after season after season of them hitting .230 the first month kind of dampens the experience. Fortunately the pitching has been a treat to watch. I don't know, maybe this will finally be the year the offense busts out before May or June. It would be nice, it would be mighty nice. SFF
  8. Somehow I don't think the annual "the bats will start waking up once it gets warmer" claim is quite going to cut it in this case.
  9. I know its early but it sure is nice to be having discussions about promotions rather than demotions.
  10. I remember the USFL, when after its first season the Chicago and Arizona teams completely swapped locations, and each even assumed the other's name and logo. The next season I rooted for both...
  11. Considering that the players already float among cities and don't land where they do simply because they like the fanbase, it kind of raises the question of what we are actually a fan of when we follow a team. Ownership, management, and history are permanent but are we invested enough in that to follow it after a move?
  12. The Sox may not be willing to offer more than three years, but what does that mean if the context is that nobody is? Maybe Cespedes is finding himself in a situation where every team willing and able to offer longer contracts has already offered them - to other players. If that's not the case I don't see any reason the Sox could even be part of this pursuit, yet everyone acknowledges they are still very much alive and busy trying to acquire him. And for any fear another team will crack and offer a longer contract, I have seen no real evidence anyone is willing to do that any more than the Sox are.
  13. I think I am going to give up Twitter and rely on Soxtalk for any more news on this. Whenever I search on "Cespedes" half of what I see is the daily collective Twitter tantrum by Mets fans who can't take "no" for an answer and selfies of latina girls named "Cespedes" looking for dates, whom I also assume can't take "no" for an answer. Both need to grow up and think I probably need to find a better use of my time. SFF
  14. To be honest, I think the off season has been far more entertaining to watch than the regular season on the field was. SFF
  15. They were bad enough then, but I can only imagine what they are going to looks like if anyone wears the pants in the baggy down to the shoes style.
  16. I remember right after we signed him seeing (maybe on this forum?) reference to a quote from a scout or someone saying he was the best pure hitter on the planet right now. I was just excited to think he was good enough to warrant such over the top hype but am now second guessing just how over the top it was.
  17. Not to assume or jinx anything, but I hope the Sox don't forget him if they wind up distributing World Series rings.
  18. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) exactly, BOS and NYY are teaming with 35 and older guys and look how they're doing we only need to lose one >35yr old, and his name is Ozzie Naaah. I say Nix to the bench, Ramirez back to second, and Ozzie back in at short
  19. Hmm, will it be the Cheerios or the bagel. I'm just not sure. Not sure what I will have for breakfast when I wake up from this...
  20. I've gotta agree about the injury concerns. Its only logical: I don't want him on the team because he might get hurt and then not be on the team.
  21. When I pulled up soxtalk, the link on the main page to this thread simply said "Carlos Zambrano is a White Sox...". I can't begin to tell the range of emotions I felt in the next ten seconds before pulling up the thread and seeing the whole title. SFF
  22. All this means to me is that I will hate the Twins a little bit less now.
  23. I'd like to see someone compute the teams wins per payroll dollar and show how those standings would look...
