  1. He could do it but it will be close. Sure, he is at 30 and its the "midseason" break, but they have played 88 games, and only have 74 left. He does have the luxury of interleague being over, but with his age, and Ozzie's style, I forsee several "rest" days before the final stretch run. SFF
  2. very nice: Faces on the Field: Josh Fields SFF
  3. I am glad to see this thread has tamed down a bit. I agree Cliff is brutal out there and isn't an option now. However, I will not bash the guy, or anyone else from the 2005 team. Those guys took us for the ride while they left it all on the field and won the trophy. None of them will have the magic forever, but they will always have my respect and gratitude and when it is time to say goodbye, that is the spirit I will approach it with. Thanks for everything, Cliffy SFF
  4. You know what's interesting? The Sox have seven (!) guys on the all star team but not a single starter. After the substitutions, during the last few innings it might look like a full Sox lineup taking on the NL out there! SFF
  5. A dynasty for the Sox? I don't know if it will happen, but there is one thing about Chicago teams. It takes them a while to finally achieve championships, but once they do they establish themselves with authority. They Bulls of course became a dynasty and the Bears, although they only won one Super Bowl, they did it with a team that was arguably the best team in NFL history. Both of those teams swept through the playoffs and once they got to the finals there was no 2nd place - and no doubt about their championships. It was the same with the Sox last year and who knows, considering this 2006 run, perhaps they can mimic the Bulls these next few seasons :rolly SFF
  6. *sniff* I love 100 mph fastballs, no hitters, and batting champions; but folks, this is an example of what is truly needed to become a world champion: heart and attitude SFF
  7. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 09:35 AM) I dont think the gay community was as "offended" as the media was. Its a term that Oz probably shouldnt be using, but again. Oz has been like this forever. Why is it a problem NOW? I repeat. This SHOULD NOT BE A NATIONAL STORY. The freaking media should be ashamed of themselves. Sorry, I should have put my quote in teal (notice the offensive word in my post was "Mariotti"). ba-da-dum.
  8. Correct me if I am wrong, but haven't the Sox scored 50 runs in the last three games against the Cardinals? I believe the last time the two teams played interleage (in 2001 or so) the Sox won the last game 17 to 5 or something like that. If that is true, could it be some kind of record for most runs scored against one team over three games? SFF Edit: My mistake. The Sox won the final game of the 2000 series 15-7. They then lost all three games of the 2001 series and I must have conveniently blocked it out.
  9. I agree that there is no place for this kind of incendiary language. Attaching certain words to groups of people is not only unfair, but is insulting and shows intolerance as well. I can't blame the gay communities outrage over Guillen's use of the word "Mariotti" when referring to them. That's clearly over the line. SFF
  10. Even if Ponson's pitches were completely unintentional, our guys in the line of fire there. When a couple of your guys get drilled with heat, its time to say "alright, enough" and a simple plunk in their guy's padding gets the message across efficiently - a lot more efficiently then the courtroom on the field we see now. SFF
  11. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 08:33 AM) around here it's either cards, cubs, or die--i chose a lil bit of the 1st and all of the 3rd option. cards are my 2nd fav team, but sox above all else. will be a fun series egging on my bro and grandpa who are diehard cards fans... I feel your pain. Its tough to be black in a red and blue world here in Spfld, too. There was an email war here at the office during the last Cub/Card series with the Cub fans taunting the Cards fans about them getting swept in the WS. The Cards fans replied that they at least they know what its like to experience half the glory. I replied back to them all asking if they wanted to know what if felt like to experience all the glory :rolly. SFF
  12. QUOTE(Maverick0984 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) i for one, will not miss him I agree. He alone is the exception, and the antithesis, to the "good pitching stops good hitting" axiom. SFF
  13. To you folks so tortured over the prospect of either of these teams winning - look at the bright side. You get to see one of them lose . Anyway, if you think being a Sox fan is a tough situation right now, imagine being a diehard Cub fan having to root for your team to win, knowing it could usher the Sox back into first place. SFF
  14. I love the upcoming schedule - none of those games are in Tampa. Seriously. SFF
  15. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:34 AM) The comcast gun is slow, not as slow as the WCIU/WGN gun, but it's still a few ticks slow. He was probably 92-94 tonight, but that is also with just 2 days rest after starting and pitching 7 innings on Monday. Just watching those four seamers, I could tell you were not 89/90. They weren't Jenksian, but they were faster then those readings. I would say 93-95. SFF
  16. If JD continues like this all season, there should be no excuse for Paulie ahead of him not to get 40+ home runs again. SFF
  17. Good grief, give LV a break. He said twice in his original post that he wasn't throwing in the towel or giving up on the season. He just feels that lately the offensive performance has resembled the 2004 team's. To be honest, the Sox do lead baseball in home runs, and have gone through a somewhat lackluster period at times lately. I can see his point. He's just voicing some immediate concerns he has with the team. I am not sure I see the problem with that. SFF
  18. Both teams will be around during the stretch run. However, we know the Sox have October blood. We can't say the same for Detroit yet, so we will just have to wait and see. SFF
  19. How ironic - they acquired a strikeout machine in return for a strikeout machine SFF
  20. I had a feeling our 3-4-5 stacked up well. It doesn't even end there: I bet our 3-4-5-6 and our 3-4-5-6-7 rankings ain't too shabby either. SFF
  21. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 21, 2006 -> 03:48 PM) We get KC 19 times a year. true, but we don't get colorado, arizona, pittsburgh, aw heck, everyone over in that league...
  22. QUOTE(SouthsideNorthsideFan @ May 21, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) what kind of garbage is that?? I mean, for example, why does St. Louis get six gimmes against KC every year, But we always have to play tooth and nail against the Cubs? Mix it up a bit, at least?
  23. Give Juan a break. I recall last year Crede had a defensive lapse and got an "It's alright Joe" banner the next day. It was alright - evidenced by October.
  24. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ May 21, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) Once again our bullpen s***s the bed. I also like the umps' calls today too. Sox throw pitches close and don't get em, scrubs throw em at the same place and get them called strike. Not blaming the ump though, they had that s*** coming to them giving them extra outs. Um, I don't think we need to be griping about strike calls...
  25. I frankly don't like the crosstown series. When come in as an underdog, you have to deal with the fact the opponent knows it, , and when you are the favorite, you usually lose games you would win any other time. Every year I hate we had to play them. SFF
