  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) Wow, lets go ahead and convinct every college kid who is drinking underage and has pictures to prove it. Talk about the judge taking something a little too far. My whole dorm/fraternity would have been jailed. s***, my parents let us have some beers once we got into college, it was even legal in OXford if your parents were with you. I think this is complete bulls***. I believe the conviction also involved contempt of court. They made a mockery of the judge and his - no, "our" - court. Yes, kids will be kids... but so too, the law will be the law. SFF
  2. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Does the "C" have any meaning besides for show? Does it give someone more on-field responsibilities? And good for you, Paulie, only take the "C" if the team wants you to take the "C." I would assume he gets to nominate whomever sits on the kangaroo court SFF
  3. I wonder - which hat he will wear in the Hall of Fame? SFF
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) Cuba is going to get wasted anyways by either the Dominican or the US.... all the other countries are just in the way. I would be careful about what I say about Cuba. The last time they played a major league club was 1999 when they outplayed the Orioles in splitting two games. It took 11 innings for Baltimore to win the first game (Contreras threw 8 shutout innings for Cuba that game). The second game saw the Cubans come to Baltimore and hang a 12-6 win on the O's, and the game wasn't even that close. I know its just Baltimore, even back then, but still... http://www.latinosportslegends.com/CubavsOrioles2.htm http://www.latinosportslegends.com/USvsCuba.htm SFF
  5. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) Generally, you are expected to renounce other citizenships when taking your U.S. Citizenship. I was just wondering if how that would work the other way around? If you are already a US citizen and want to also get citizenship with another nation, would that be possible? I would assume it would that automatically void US citizenship correct? SFF
  6. I can't say I am surprised at the news. I am sure KW leaves no stone unturned and looks at everyone who might be available (unless they are a Boras client ). That said, considering what the O's wanted for Tejada, the price tag for Prior would have been BMac, the Birmingham Barons, Mrs. Podsednik, and cash just to make things fair. SFF
  7. There are certain center fielders who have had that "presence" if you know what I mean: Lofton, Griffey, Hunter... Does Anderson have the potential to have that kind of reputation? Is Rowand on the verge of achieving that elite status? Just wondering. SFF
  8. Anyone who's so afraid they will get "taken" by an agent that they would rather run away doesn't have what it takes to be in the business, IMO. SFF
  9. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 07:14 PM) Would you be this apologetic towards Boras and his clients if we had given bums like Bobby Seay and Bobby Hill the big signing bonuses they wanted? Boras overhypes all of his clients. It's not like every player he works for is a stud worth a ton of money, although Boras seems to think so. Boras was hardballing the Brewers over Dan Kolb, who had a garbage 2005 season with the Braves. I would suggest the GM/Owner simply ignore anything that comes out of Boras' mouth that isn't a dollar or years figure. Screw whatever hype or other smoke he blows. Have a little faith in your and your scout's ability to judge talent and know what he's worth. Then simply walk away from the table if Boras wants more. I doubt he is handcuffing anyone to it. SFF
  10. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) What I don't get (and this should show why I rarely post on Pale Hose): Why does he have to switch his agent? Doesn't Crede have the final say? If he likes the offer from the Sox, and if he wants to stay in the city, can't he just tell Boras that he is taking the offer, and that is that? Or does Boras REALLY control his future that much? He may or may not, depending on the player. Right after Garland was resigned he was interviewed on the Score and they asked him how much he, and other players, were involved in their agent's negotiations. Some players choose to be involved in every detail whereas others just give the agent a ballpark guideline and let them have free reign. Judging by the way Crede's attitude evolved last year (lets just say his jock probably fits a little tighter these days) I am sure he would have no problem telling Boras the "way it's gonna be" if he has an opinion on the matter. SFF
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) Crede and Hermanson don't have hernias. They have bulging or herniated discs, which while using a similar term, are not the same thing. Back surgeries are really iffy, and high risk. I doubt either of them wanted to mess with it. Exactly. "Hernia" and "herniated" are rather general terms. They merely mean that a body part is poking out where it shouldn't be. SFF
  12. I agree those would be the motives, however I wonder whether his motives have changed any since he hired him. I am sure his relationship with ownership and the city has grown since then. If it has, perhaps he would reconsider? I guess that's true, but then why wouldn't JR just deal in the numbers and leave the personalities out of it. If Boras demands too much, then bye-bye Joe, but at least negotiate... Yeah, if I werer JR/KW I would avoid drafting players who have Boras as a rep (they do have reps before they are drafted, right?). However, that doesn't apply here. For bettor or worse, they signed Crede and now that they have him I repeat: at least go to the table prepared with "final offer" figures, but don't just give up and refuse to negotiate something other then a stopgap 1 year contract. Am I missing anything here? SFF
  13. Let me provide the naive post of the week. Two questions: (1) If having Boras as his agent means the end of his playing days in Chicago, and he likes the city and team, and success......why wouldn't Crede just get a new agent, at least if the negotiations turn sour? (2) Isn't this "we won't play with Boras" issue rather immature on KW's part? Cant the just look at numbers and set a years/dollars amount that he simply won't exceed, whether its Boras or anyone else on the other end of the table? Come on, its business, not Christmas dinner! SFF
  14. I think any doubt in Tejada's status was actually removed with the Patterson deal. I have to admit that I first thought Tejada only reversed himself to make it appear the O's had more leverage, thereby making potential suiters feel they have to offer more - enough that the O's office could justify the trade. In this scenario, Baltimore is a seller. However, if they were in fact in "seller mode" they wouldn't have gone and traded prospects for Patterson. I think Baltimore honestly feels Tejada wants to stay and is planning accordingly. The matter can be put to bed IMO. SFF
  15. Well it looks like the Sox get no respect compared to teams from the East. So, why should that surprise us? SFF
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) I would rather sign Count and get rid of Freddy via trade or FA. I thought that at first also, but then thought, naaahh, Freddy went out of his way to accept an extension shortly after he originally signed. He has invested his loyalty in the Sox and I would like the Sox to treat him in kind. SFF
  17. There is no need to worry about this. It is Baltimore saddled with a Nomar scenario right now, and KW is in the catbird seat. As disgruntled as Tejada with their management, if nothing happens before spring they might be forced into accepting something like Contreras for Tejada straight up. Well, I can wish anyway... SFF
  18. The surgery is no surprise. From the day he signed a Japanese infielder without ever seeing him play, I already knew he had stones.
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) No, the one I was looking at was brighter. To be honest, I saved the pic I'm looking for as my desktop background. I just don't know how to get it from there to my imaging program. Ahhh, try this: Right click the desktop, pick Properties, and go to the desktop tab. The background image selections are available and your image will be highlighted and probably called "Internet Explorer Wallpaper". Just pick the browse button and it will take you where that picture is stored. Then copy and rename it and there you go. SFF
  20. I didn't check it out, but I thought I heard that the Tribune site had a photo gallery of some of this stuff shortly after the series ended. In any case, Chicago is one hell of a gorgeous city, agreed? SFF
  21. It is ironic. I remember not so long ago reading a thread topic that illustrated the Sox problems by pointing out the Yankees had six viable startes while the Sox had two. My have the tables turned, huh? Right now, I bet in offices in the north side, Cleveland, Minnesota, Anaheim, Boston, and NY, there are more hands being thown in the air then at an annual Jerry Falwell special. SFF
  22. Holy crap, what an offseason. All I can say is it looks like JR/KW are trying to stake a claim on baseball's second century... SFF
  23. Soooo....Arow fans, lets put the love to the test. When the Phillies come to Wrigley, will any of you put on the silver and black and go just to cheer him? SFF
  24. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 07:42 PM) How do you get one point? CFL Rules. Well, I can wish the Packers were stuck in Canada... SFF
  25. No problem. I can't recall who originally gave it to me, but I knew where I could find it right now -- my desktop SFF
