  1. I wouldn't argue with him being considered the MVP. He is the father figure to the team, and even to us fans. He is the one I see guiding us all through uncharted and sometimes tense and scary waters of this postseason. I recall Sox relievers in critical situations with multiple runners on and no outs getting a key first strikeout and AJ is back there pumping his fist. At that moment, even while still in a critical hole, something was reassuring and calming at seeing AJ. Despite the situation, he is "in charge". I know that he has been there, knows how to handle the situation, and knows how to guide the pitchers to execute. Moreover, I feel that same leadership when he is cheering from the bench when the Sox hitters have come through with their clutch hits. I am also sure the clubhouse presence is no different. He isn't the greatest talent, but he is by far the best out there when it comes down to knowing how to win a game. That is where the value is. SFF
  2. In retrospect, its only fitting Blum would step up big. We have seen contributions from Cubans (Duque/Count), African Americans (Dye), Polish (A.J.), midwesterners (Buehrle), country boys (Jenks), Japanese (Iguchi), and hispanics (Garcia). It is only fitting we should add a California surfer dude to the mix. SFF
  3. Dude, come on, there has to be a way. I don't know where you are going, but if it were me I would get a little handheld battery powered tv. Fox is broadcast television - you can pick it up without cable. Short of that, at least get a radio. You WILL have experienced it if it is by radio. SFF
  4. The blood's in the water. Time to go for the kill now.
  5. QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) wrong, pods is gonna go 3-4 with three home runs and the sox win 3-2 C'mon you gotta be clutch to be able to pull that off.
  6. I can't give scouting report analysis, but when he beat St. Louis last week, it looked like he was whipping dimes up there. There's no sense focusing on Oswalt; we need to look for Garland to step up and throw a gem. SFF
  7. QUOTE(G&T @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) I feel the same way, and here's what I think: The problem is that World Series are played by two teams that are not in Chicago and certainly aren't the White Sox. What's going on now is the total opposite of everything I have ever seen and known and I can't explain it. Well put, G&T. My feelings defy explanation, but I will try anyway. They are still the same Sox to me, but are the culmination of everything they were supposed to be. The Series itself, though, all feels so surreal, so different. I can tell myself that it is the same event that all teams and fans take part in, but this time it seems beyond that. Perhaps it is the freaky breaks, perhaps it is the long an suffering wait, perhaps it is the love affair-like joy in Chicago now, perhaps it is even Mrs. Clemens' deathbead invokation of Shoeless Joe. Maybe it is all of that and more, but it really feels like there is an invisible hand writing a special story for the ages. I am not saying I believe there are supernatural forces at play, but it just feels that way. SFF
  8. Viewership isn't the be-all/end-all but it is understandable to have a little concern over it. I guess it is like the tree in the forest: if the Sox won the series and nobody saw it happen... Anyway, you better believe those that tuned out are sorry they missed Sunday's game and are quite likely to not make the same mistake again. Also, as far as the Sox, if we wind up calling them world champions, they damn sure will get ratings next year. SFF
  9. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) Or donate to her charity work--sounds like she does a lot. I have to admit I laughed out loud at the line about how you don't hit a Jersey girl and get away with it. It's true. And good letter SFF. Thx for the compliment. I'm liking the charity idea. The proceeds from the United Center go to Sox charities anyway, don't they? How about taking a dollar from each admission and donate it to hers? SFF
  10. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 09:10 AM) Considering how many tickets went to connected people (either through MLB, politicians, FOX, etc), what are the chances he wasn't a Sox fan at all? I am glad he is banned. I don't care if Osama snuck in and whacked her. It happened in our house and to our guests. We have to take the high road and express our regret for their experience. SFF
  11. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 08:32 AM) Send that idea to Brooks ASAP. [email protected] I believe. We need a giant online petition or something saying sorry to Craig and Patty Biggio and the Astros organization. Done and sent:
  12. I think this could be a time we could really use Brooks Boyer to organize a fan response we all could take part in. Anyone got ideas? Could he perhaps make a petition of apology available at the United Center that all could sign and have sent to Texas? When Biggio comes up, could he suggest that the fans at the UC give him a standing ovation and make sure it gets on the news here and in Houston? I don't know, I just want us all to respond in masse. I know the average true fan is not "guilty" but I just think we need to let everyone know how disgusted we are and how much we truly regret what happened. SFF
  13. Oz made the statement during the depths of that August/Sept freefall, but then didn't discount it when interviewed on the Score the day after game 1. If he goes, how about Cooper for manager? SFF
  14. I got to the park when the gates were open and the food was ready. Remember now, I am from Springfield. The smells at the park when I got there were better then at the friggin state fair. I don't say that often - if ever. SFF
  15. I appreciate the kind words. One great and humbling part of this whole playoff journey has been the graciousness of opposing fans and the graciousness will certainly be returned when you are fortunate enough to experience your own dream season. Thank you. *extends hand* SFF
  16. The hardcore Cub fans in my family have gone out of their way to congratulate me ever since they beat Boston and they are bleeding black and silver with every game now - for my sake alone if not for the Sox. Granted, I live downstate where the Sox are not so much dissed as ignored, but I have really been taken aback by the graciousness of the "true" cub fans I know down here. I never got into the trash talk but now I really don't even have the urge anymore. That may be different if I were living in Chicagoland, but not down here... SFF
  17. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) "Official Brad Lidge Game-Winning HR Section" Seriously, you are not going to get any better ideas then that. It is good advice though, to keep it under wraps until you know the game is in hand. You might also consider a simple sign saying "HE GONE" for usage throughout the game. Some very ballsy Sox fan broke one out behind home plate in Yankee stadium late this year. Every noteworthy icon in the world should go out to that brave soul. SFF
  18. QUOTE(Lefty Of Love @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) The Lidge one is good, but he can't give up a walk-off home run at home... I was going to say the same thing - but its still too priceless not to do
  19. I was there! Section 556! Sorry, even though its the day after, I just can't explain the experience - I can only feel it. Walking down the ramps at the end, I could only feel that it was already worth the lifetime of waiting just for that moment. Again, I can't explain why, I can't explain anything right now... I can only feel. SFF
  20. I went to the game and was going to make a banner saying something about Houston's "Killer Beards" but thought it would be in bad taste (especially since a family of Astro fans was sitting behind me). SFF
  21. So, what's the deal here? In that transcript Joe said he took money to throw the series. He did not say he actually followed through, though. If he really took the cash and renigged, did he still do wrong? SFF
  22. I will be there also! My wife spent waaaay too much time and money on ebay and finally got one. I never, ever imagined I would be going to a World Series game. Hell, I never imagined the Sox would I will have Sox flags and stickers on my car the whole trip up I-55! SFF
  23. Fantastic! Love the Astro-dog reference SFF
