  1. QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) Agree with Fathom here, with this team as-is next year, JR would have to raise the payroll to more than he'd probably want to, there's 0 chance of getting Griffey in my mind (a. the money issue, and there's no chance of cinci eating money, b. his owner won't trade him) or this signing happening, unless KW would be able to get rid of a lot players See, now this is where I just want to copy the angry smilie and then hold down the ctrl-v to paste it to fill the screen. KW clearly said he would have the money to make the big move and go for it in July. Assuming Blum isn't KW's idea of a big move, that money was never used. Sure, raises will be given out in 2006, but that had to be part of the plan anyway. In any case, I am still waiting for my major acquisition. SFF
  2. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) I think I am more giddy about Young the any of our recenent propsects, more than anyone including when Reed was hitting .400+ in AA or when McCarthy had than roll last year. I can see (Reds ownder) Linder calling KW up now and KW telling him he can just kiss his ass
  3. QUOTE(farmteam @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) Well, everyone pick one of those two. Then we move to the twos. If Milano still has short hair, I pick Eva
  4. I could almost see seeding them simply by how well known they are. It would be nice to see an unknown beauty run through the field upsetting people who are just assumed to always win these things...
  5. QUOTE(farmteam @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Is everyone happy with that 64? Looks good to me. However, I would reserve an extra unfilled spot for a potential "play in" just in case we have missed someone obvious. EDIT: uhh, or just take out dergen
  6. Kerri Walsh > Misty May, but either is fine. Just no Gabby Reese, please!
  7. How about Alyssa Milano, or does the short hair ruin it?
  8. QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) She's new to the list.At least I think so. But no answered my "Anna K. vs. Maria S." debate. BTW:Maria beats Anna. I take Maria, but I can see the Anna argument too. FWIW the Russian tennis circuit could probably put half a dozen into this tournament. I forget her name, but Sharapova hangs out with another (unknown) russian pro that, frankly, is probably even hotter then she is. SFF
  9. I say keep the supermodels out this time. They are already paid to look good and don't need a thread contest to prove it. Oh, and Kournikova is just a model nowadays too, so I say she's out also. *ducking* SFF
  10. This is a sports board, right? *cough* Jennie Finch *cough cough* Maria Sharapova SFF
  11. If you want to include news anchors, and want to add a middle eastern flavor, I would nominate that Iranian woman from CNN, Rudi Bahktiar. If you haven't seen her this won't make any sense. If you have it will make all the sense in the world. Hottest...Newsreporter...Ever http://home.planet.nl/~wolf0620/image/bakhtiar3.jpg http://img12.exs.cx/img12/4715/Rudi5.jpg SFF
  12. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Great, so now the ratio is 14 to 2. We're getting there, people. Slowly, but surely. I am sure nobody would own up to ever watching "Boy Meets World", but from that sitcom I can suggest Trina McGee Davis. LT
  13. Uhhhhh...get Guardado and include him in a package to Cincinnati for... SFF nevermind...forgot the waiver thing
  14. QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) thats true, but in order to win the world series its quite simply really. you have to be a great team. that means great pitching, great hitting. those great hitting teams had some great damn pitchrers that helped carry them. we are not a great hitting team, we arent even a good hitting team. in order for us to win in teh playoffs we are gonna be facing colons/zitos/hardens/clements etc. not to mention we are gonna be seeing the best of the best outa the pen (ducschererer, shields for 2 innings, krod for 1+, timlin for 1+) so our pitching is essentialy gonna have to flat dominate, and we are gonna have to get some lucky blasts, and clutch hits in order to win in october Dang, its a b**** trying to build a chamipionship team isn't it?
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) Not sure if you were there, but do you remember when I said that we shouldn't be too pissed if this team fails to go far if they make the playoffs? There's absolutely no reason to think that this was THE YEAR for the White Sox. It's not like we've geared up our whole franchise for this one season. It's not like we have more talent than every other team in baseball. Our pitching has overachieved so much this season, and our offense has underachieved. However, since all you have to do is score 1 or 2 runs when your pitching dominates, we were able to feast on s***ty teams in the first half of the year. Yeah I vaguely remember that, but I was in the bliss of eight game winning streaks and not thinking rationally. You know what they say: when things are going good you are not as good as you think and when they are going bad they are not as bad as you think. I thought we were 110 win team then. I think we are an 80 win team now. I guess we are really somewhere in between - which is also what I would conclude reading your reply. SFF
  16. St. Louis up 4 to nothing now against Arizona. It doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things except at work I have to sit next to a Cards fan who has been itching to rub the "best record" thing in my face for two months. I have some music to listen to tomorrow SFF
  17. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) 1 bat will not fix this... anyone that thinks that griffey will save this offense needs to be checked. Yeah, I see the light there. Until now I was holding hope KW would surprise us and snare him. If the team is going to be like this, I don't want to waste the talent and dollars it would take just to get the Griffey band-aid. SFF
  18. QUOTE(S720 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) Our players are currently going through a very tough period. And you know WHY? Podsednik is on the DL. Eversince Scott has been sick, you can see how terrible our team has been playing. Just let Podsednik get his full rest. When he comes back, he will be much healthier and, hopefully, we as the team will continue our first-half surge. If any team is so dependent on one person that it cannot win without him, it is in serious trouble. SFF
  19. How many people are considering riding bicycles more now? I live 10 miles from the office. Once it hits $3 here I will be biking it. SFF
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) Yes Kristin Kruek, Sarah Michele Gellar and Jennifer Love Hewitt are all very embarrasing. :rolly Though I don't find Kruek attractive, mainly because she looks like an alien, most people do see her as being hot. I find Kruek attractive, but not the goddess most people do. I guess it is a matter of what your "type" is, but I still prefer the "other" one, Allison Mack: In that show, isn't the guy "with" Kristin, but has Allison longing for him? Dang, what a tough life, as if superhuman powers isn't bad enough.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:29 AM) I have a feeling that Hawk has been told to shoot down the chances that Griffey Jr. comes here. If you watched the last two nights, it seemed very obvious they were doing their best to state their main reason why he won't be coming here. Hawk loves Griffey Jr., and I find it hard to believe he'd really rather have Everett, etc. I remember even a couple years before McGwire broke Maris' HR record, that Hawk gushed over KGJ, saying he believed one day he would hit 70 homers in a season. Had he stayed healthy, who knows... SFF
  22. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 03:44 AM) Jenks started out in the Angels system as a starter but I doubt he will ever start again Yes, he did . Scouting reports buzzed that he had incredible talent (as we can witness) but that he would always have the problem of his weight causing him to not have the stamina to pitch into the later innings. Interestingly, they never considered the relief role. It has taken the stamina problem out of the equation, leaving Bobby with the pure magic we see now. SFF
  23. To those who just want to make the playoffs first: Assume the time comes when we are mathematically assured of the postseason. If we are still sputtering on offense and fighting to win half our games, will you have any concern over how we have played since the break, and will you care how the remainder of the regular season goes? SFF
  24. I suppose you could blur the distinction here a little bit and compromise: how about coffee with a shot of something in it (irish creme, rum, etc.)? On second thought, wouldn't mixing alcohol and caffeine be like mixing an acid and a base (i.e. a neutral byproduct)? SFF
