QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 20, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) It's only appropriate that I don't recognize any of these names. That's funny! You should search their names on IMDb. I'm almost positive that you have at least seen Gary Oldman, Maggie Smith, and Helena Bonham Carter in a film. Probably Alan Rickman aswell, unless you don't really see too many films.
-
Has anybody ever actually noticed the amount of famous and well- respected actors (Gary Oldman, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Gambon, Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, Ralph Fiennes) that are in the Harry Potter films? I swear I never did until I started writing down all their names when I started the thread. You don't really seem to notice when you see them all on screen and in character.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) It's a male boxer, and my wife's original thought was Bailey. Now she wants Guinness. I'm Irish, but I don't know that I want to go that way with the name. It shouldn't be this hard to name a dog. I love the name Guinness. I have another thought, though. Your Irish, the dog is a boxer, so why not call him Dempsey? After the great Irish boxer Jack Dempsey, of course. I know you said you're not sure about going that way, but I couldn't resist!

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jan 20, 2007 -> 10:08 AM) You're dreaming on that one. It was funny, sure, but it just another attempt at Wes Anderson humor. And Anderson's movies are superior in EVERY way (screenplay, comedy and especially aesthetics), yet, he's never been nominated for ANYTHING. Letter's From Iwo Jima probably will be in there, but I've yet to see Pan's Labyrinth and I'm excited to do so. From what I have read/heard, its almost a certainty it will get the nomination. I'm not defending it here either, but I didn't think it was in anyway close to Wes Anderson humor. It was more of a drama than anything and I think Wes Anderson has a very distinct style of humor, and Little Miss Sunshine didn't remind me of it.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) Without a doubt, Arrested Development. I've getting hooked on some funny series' over the past couple months -- The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm mainly -- I think AD is funnier than both of those. The characters are hilarious, the script/lines are brilliant, and each character has their little 'niche' that makes 'em even funnier. I checked on wiki, apparently they are planning on doing an AD movie, but no new seasons. I'd rather have the opposite, but... I would put AD in a tie with The Office. If you want to get really specific, AD beats the American Office, but the British Office beats AD (but its close). If you like AD as much as I think you do, check out the British Office. You can rent or buy the DVD's and theres always the internet. I highly recommend it to you. That and AD are the only shows that consistently got laughs out of me when they were on. Something that has continued to this day. If you can, definitley check it out. Looking forward to the AD movie!

For me, it was simple I suppose. My dad was a northsider who moved to the southside when he got married. He always pushed the Cubs on me (whenever possible) when I was little. I couldn't stand watching them at all. My brothers, on the other hand, were all die hard sox fans so I started watching games with them to get away from the Cubs and they taught me more about baseball (as they are much older than me), so, quickly I became a sox fan. Since then, I don't think I've missed many games. lol. Yeah, boring, but I'm glad it happened! So what's your story?

OK, with the recent cancellation of The O.C., (I'm not a fan by any means but it was big news) I started to think alot about shows that were very good, but didn't get the ratings, ultimately ending in the shows demise. To me, the best show that I've ever seen that got cancelled was Arrested Development. Bad marketing by Fox, accompanied by oft subtle and unusual humor within the show, pretty much killed it from the beginning. It pretty much never got its chance, like other shows that started slow (see: Sienfeld). Who knows what could have happened if it did get its chance. I'm just glad shows like The Office (both UK and US versions) have eased my pain a little bit. So anyway, what are your favorite shows that got cancelled?

Overall, I think the Film Industry has seen better years than 2006, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a disappointment either. There were still some high-quality films, whether driven by dialogue or just flat-out entertaining. My favorites of the year are: Little Miss Sunshine, Thank You For Smoking, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, and Casino Royale. My biggest surprise of the year was Lucky Number Slevin. A film that was much better than I expected, driven by biting dialouge (and a bit of stylized action), but still I found the aformentioned films to be better overall. Another film that I was greatly impressed by was Casino Royale, which did make my favorites. I thought they did a brilliant job of completely revamping the Bond series, much like what was done with the Batman series. Daniel Craig was fantastic and I can't wait to see what he and the filmmakers do with the upcoming films. This may be the best Bond film I've ever seen. Still haven't seen The Departed or Stranger Than Fiction. Just haven't found the time. If any of you guys have, please fill me in. Thanks alot. So, after all of that, what are your favorites?

QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Nov 25, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) I just hate Catholic people in general. Wow, that's not prejudice. And did you know alot of Non-Catholics go to Catholic High Schools? I guess not. Rita won State by the way, and I'll walk around with my head held high while you throw another classless and ignorant post on here.
