I wish it were that easy. Force a team who made back to back playoff appearances a couple years ago to do what? The Tigers and Angels haven't made the playoffs in 9 years. The Royals and Pirates haven't been in 8 years. So now you are forcing more than a few teams to do something that will move quality players from the better teams to worst teams. I don't believe the players are going to be that excited. The league could have forced Ohtani to not switch teams because the team he was on kept missing the playoff. If Jerry was forced to increase payroll how much would have had to outbid the league for a Ohtani level player? Could you imagine him coming here for an extra million? Twenty million? Hundred million? The league is doing something, to discourage teams from tanking now instead of the #1 pick we'll be further back. That's really helped light a fire in the organization. It would be great, but the solution isn't from the league.

Here is the bottom line We don't want anyone who would take this job. We don't want any manager who would come here We don't want any players who would come here. If we actually would want them they would rightfully demand a sizeable increase in what they could earn elsewhere. It's the high price of being a troubled franchise.

They are all professionals and everyone is working on something.

Chasing Records — 121 losses, modern MLB record

😂 How about a win a week for 35? This team is so bad. -

It's difficult to keep up with all the records. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/41100639/white-sox-loss-record-20th-straight-games-started-chris-flexen I know we can't judge pitchers by wins and loses but I'm certain his grandchildren will be proud when they Internet search Grandpa's baseball career. -
Plus it was his walk year and he was done for the season.

I still enjoy baseball in person. I watch mostly high school and some college. I usually see a couple Missions (Padres AA) games each season. I know if I was living in Chicago I would have been to a few games. I'm not going to allow JR and Getz to ruin my enjoyment of baseball.

I thought it was his knee

Cause after Getz he's not looking as bad

There was a time when we trusted White Sox doctors and heavily criticized a player for ignoring their advice and went out of the country for a surgery not available in the US. Years of losing on the field and injuries had taught us to distrust the team doctors whose goal is to destroy careers and franchise value.
-
Didn't the Padres have Darvish pitching with a spur? I think there are a few non surgical treatments before getting cut. Some pitchers believe the surgery may leave their elbow "loose".

Ready by ST from an easy fix. Fans of championship organizations will feel optimistic and believe their superiority in everything will result in the best possible outcome. We know he'll never pitch again.

I'll accept the premise that if a team is close to championship level promoting someone in house makes sense. (I'll disagree that the team was that close, but that's a different argument) Now that there are few, if any, players on the forty man roster that a championship team could be built around I believe a reevaluation of the GM position is warranted. Perhaps after this reevaluation JR may still believe Getz is the right guy (again I'll disagree) but at least it would mean a realization that it takes a different skill set to start from nothing versus starting with a championship core that needs just a little tweaking.

Golden Domers and more: CFB 2024/25 thread.

I've always said nobody cheers for the manager or head coach. I was wrong, after listening to him speak in person a few times I started paying attention to UTSA football. He's been an amazing recruiter and hell of a nice guy. Bonus he was a Texas High School coach. -
This is the feel good thread of this season.

Paywall. I'm over my limit of free articles. It sounded interesting

After a less than careful review of the Sox organization I can find only one guy that really stands out for consistently having his guys ready to win. They look confident, they look ready, and they deliver and that's due to the diligent efforts of Jason Gilliam, the visiting team clubhouse manager. Here's to you Jason! This season wouldn't be as memorable without your professionalism and attention to detail.

He's just trying to get out of the house(s)

Earlier this month one of my former players completed her first stage of Q School pre-qualifying for the LPGA Tour and is advancing to the finals. She'll either be on the Epson or LPGA tours. Another one of my former players is featured in the fall issue of the USGA Golf Journal for her work with adaptive golf (page 66) . It is such an obvious fit for her passion to help others and golf. https://golf.com/news/features/adaptive-golfers-more-competitive-opportunities-ever/?fbclid=IwY2xjawFhGRBleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHS_dizLbONcnJSF_q_dIrDeyymEUfr-BTfuGfZeodwKya0j5XJgDvoEeRw_aem_rjdL7xd06bqcmeILh2wHDA

Exactly. Keeping guys who may be on the 40 man in 2026 healthy should be the priority while having short timers eating innings. There isn't any reason to even play this month, but they have to field a team. It's like the NFL pre season.

I'd like to see the details and the assumptions in their models, wouldn't you?

Until you look down on the field.

ROI. The return on investment for parking lots is relatively quick and they are easy to pivot and create a new development if necessary. Also no long-term expensive maintenance and upkeep. Attracting investors to buy land and make minimal improvements isn't as hard as finding investor money for a stadium.

Absolutely correct. The only decision is when. I believe a GM might take a chance that the team's lack of success is the issue and that a rebound is highly likely. But even then no where near what we would have expected a couple years ago. Also the longer you wait to trade him the less time you have for any prospects to be MLB ready.
