If we accept that all things being equal, guys won't choose to come here, then JR has two options
Continue to make offers that aren't accepted and look cheap.
Overpay for the Beni's of the league and appear stupid.
Liam is one of the few exceptions.
It's tough to see any rays of sunshine fighting their way out of the black hole season but there are a couple. For me the biggest is watching the farm system move up in potential.
The Sox likely will never simultaneously have a top farm system and a top team. They lower one to raise the other. Trading the last couple of MLB players with any value will raise the farm further.
Going outside for the interim was a pleasant surprise.
But it is easier to be pessimistic about all things Sox.
The A tier isn't coming here unless our offer was way better than everybody else.
Plus until we see how our future "Star" players develop we're guessing which holes to fill.
So another year of Beni level free agents. Then he better open the wallet for multiple championship opportunities
He has proven his versatility in multiple positions. His willingness to do whatever a team needs. Probably still has some potential development in the right organization.
He's probably a solid bench player for a few teams.
I'd like to know what direction he's been given. If the interim is going to be held to inning management, whose starting, etc. It's probably not worth it besides something to talk about.
No one in the organization is really trying to win now. He's not wanted here. He's a piece of meat they tried to trade and couldn't. He knows he'll be gone as soon as someone makes a decent offer.
