My first Gamethread win of all time was yesterday. And with that single win I'm near the top of 2024 gamethread starting winning steaks.
#2 win? ?
Brent Rooker and the Oakland Athletics take on Andrew Vaughn and the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday at 3:37 PM ET in the final game of a three-game series. The Athletics are the favorite in this one, at -192, while the underdog White Sox have +160 odds to upset. Oakland is a 1.5-run favorite (at +113 odds). The total is 8.5 runs for the game
Most of the players in this afternoon's game have wanted to play baseball in the worst way since they were kids. And they have succeeded. They are playing in the worst way.
You mean we don't want to rush guys and hamper their development.
Some die hard contrarians believe you can promote everyone, anytime, regardless of readiness.
JR "the fans aren't paying attention, what can we do to get them interested again?"
Pedro "we could lose twenty in a row."
JR "do it"
If they had won a couple games the past week I believe a few of us wouldn't be paying attention.
Agreed. How fast would you fire their replacements for having the worst team in history? Next month rating? Still the worst. Next April? Still the worst. Next summer? Still the worst. This isn't a one year turnaround.
Would anyone take the job on a one year contract?
Not everyone is a vocal leader. A team does need good players who are followers and set the example. All leaders is a problem.
The front office was actively trying to make this year's team worse for future benefits. Fans wanted the team to get worse this year for future benefits. I can't imagine anyone really being motivated to go out there.
Soon, I can feel it, some team is going to wake up with a hangover and have 100 text messages from friends telling them the embarrassing thing they did while drunk the night before, lost to the Sox.
Joe Biden was running for President, Bob Newhart, Lou Dobbs, Richard Simmons, and Ruth Westheimer were alive, and Sox fans didn't think it could get worse.
I've thought that as well. You would think the players would object or at least continue what was working for them.
The best explanation I've come up with is other teams do a better job of screening and evaluating. We miss stuff on the front end that other teams catch.
