  1. If they don't beat the As this could get really ugly. Dimmagio, Ripken, and the 2024 White Sox.
  2. Soon, I can feel it, some team is going to wake up with a hangover and have 100 text messages from friends telling them the embarrassing thing they did while drunk the night before, lost to the Sox.
  3. The 21st Amendment brought us back alcohol. The 22nd got us presidential term limits.
  4. Joe Biden was running for President, Bob Newhart, Lou Dobbs, Richard Simmons, and Ruth Westheimer were alive, and Sox fans didn't think it could get worse.
  5. I think you're right. It's a blow out victory tonight. Damnit As. ?
  6. I've thought that as well. You would think the players would object or at least continue what was working for them. The best explanation I've come up with is other teams do a better job of screening and evaluating. We miss stuff on the front end that other teams catch.
  7. That would probably have made a difference. The women's just didn't grab my attention. I thought it would be like sand volleyball and be more exciting.
  8. Of the three possibilities I agree keeping Ricky was better than Tony. If we're going to play what if, at that point the job was attractive to most managers. We could have had someone without baggage. We could toss a couple names out there.
  9. Or rush them when they need time in the minors.
  10. I gave it a chance but 3 on 3 basketball just isn't working for me. The surfing was awesome. I can't imagine the rush of popping up and feeling that energy in the wave.
  11. The only known improvement will be year to year improvement from the young players. There is also the possibility of a managerial change. I'm with you that will all be negated by the loss of guys who are actual MLB level talent.
  12. Exactly which is why I don't want any manager that would take the job.
  13. All were teams that won sixty or better the previous year. Could we go 35 to 70? Maybe with an owner that wants to not only cover their debt from buying the team but operate at a loss for a few seasons. But even then there is the huge problem of convincing top tier free agents to come here.
  14. But don't rush anyone to the majors. Look how many guys we've ruined that way.
  15. So we're probably looking at 100 losses for another five or six years minimum until he's gone. Then another couple years until his replacement can fix the problems.
  16. I question if it should even be a goal. I guess there's is a little magic in "only" losing 99 games, especially if we see system improvement. The only progress I'm seeing is many publications have moved our farm system into the upper half.
  17. Thinking ahead to 2025, a huge turnaround would be about winning 25 more games, record breaking is 35. Most of those were the result of a 65 or so win team breaking out. Not the worse team if all time. That would probably result in around 70 to 75 wins next season. (And unlikely but better to think about than 20 losses in a row). With the expected upcoming events, new manager, a couple trades for prospects, is it possible to win 70 without making the potential 2027 squad weaker?
  18. At this point most anything that would help today takes away from 2027. The team is only going to get worse after Robert and Crochet are gone. And if you don't have any hope in the team rebuilding and developing anyone, then it's going to be decades of this.
  19. The TV and sponsorship money is guaranteed. Attendance is nice but doesn't really move the needle too much.
  20. I've read in several places the commissioner needs to make certain teams are trying to win. That sounds good but what would that look like? Imagine if Getz was able to land a haul for Crochet and the commissioner blocked it because they aren't trying to win this year. That's technically correct but not in the team's long term best interest. Minimum payroll? I like that. What else could they do?
  21. Fate isn't working in their favor. But this is going to test their will to truly be the worst of all time.
  22. I didn't blame a player for trying to avoid surgery or seeking outside medical care.
  23. I hope he wasn't asking them to help pick their replacements. Hopefully it was letting them know their services aren't needed after this season. Instead it was Jerry bragging about how he saved 15% on his car insurance.
  24. Jerry has to clean house to have a chance to retain any fan support. If he doesn't, baseball will lose part of a generation in Chicago. Not every kid will become a Cub fan.
