That would probably have made a difference. The women's just didn't grab my attention. I thought it would be like sand volleyball and be more exciting.

What does this team look like in an alternate timeline?
Texsox replied to Tony's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Of the three possibilities I agree keeping Ricky was better than Tony. If we're going to play what if, at that point the job was attractive to most managers. We could have had someone without baggage. We could toss a couple names out there. -
Or rush them when they need time in the minors.

I gave it a chance but 3 on 3 basketball just isn't working for me. The surfing was awesome. I can't imagine the rush of popping up and feeling that energy in the wave.

The only known improvement will be year to year improvement from the young players. There is also the possibility of a managerial change. I'm with you that will all be negated by the loss of guys who are actual MLB level talent.

Bob: JR, Getz and Grifol meet to get to the bottom of this
Texsox replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Exactly which is why I don't want any manager that would take the job. -
All were teams that won sixty or better the previous year. Could we go 35 to 70? Maybe with an owner that wants to not only cover their debt from buying the team but operate at a loss for a few seasons. But even then there is the huge problem of convincing top tier free agents to come here.
-
But don't rush anyone to the majors. Look how many guys we've ruined that way.
-
So we're probably looking at 100 losses for another five or six years minimum until he's gone. Then another couple years until his replacement can fix the problems.
-
I question if it should even be a goal. I guess there's is a little magic in "only" losing 99 games, especially if we see system improvement. The only progress I'm seeing is many publications have moved our farm system into the upper half.

Thinking ahead to 2025, a huge turnaround would be about winning 25 more games, record breaking is 35. Most of those were the result of a 65 or so win team breaking out. Not the worse team if all time. That would probably result in around 70 to 75 wins next season. (And unlikely but better to think about than 20 losses in a row). With the expected upcoming events, new manager, a couple trades for prospects, is it possible to win 70 without making the potential 2027 squad weaker?
-
At this point most anything that would help today takes away from 2027. The team is only going to get worse after Robert and Crochet are gone. And if you don't have any hope in the team rebuilding and developing anyone, then it's going to be decades of this.

The TV and sponsorship money is guaranteed. Attendance is nice but doesn't really move the needle too much.

I've read in several places the commissioner needs to make certain teams are trying to win. That sounds good but what would that look like? Imagine if Getz was able to land a haul for Crochet and the commissioner blocked it because they aren't trying to win this year. That's technically correct but not in the team's long term best interest. Minimum payroll? I like that. What else could they do?

Fate isn't working in their favor. But this is going to test their will to truly be the worst of all time.
-
I didn't blame a player for trying to avoid surgery or seeking outside medical care.

Bob: JR, Getz and Grifol meet to get to the bottom of this

I hope he wasn't asking them to help pick their replacements. Hopefully it was letting them know their services aren't needed after this season. Instead it was Jerry bragging about how he saved 15% on his car insurance. -
Jerry has to clean house to have a chance to retain any fan support. If he doesn't, baseball will lose part of a generation in Chicago. Not every kid will become a Cub fan.

8/3 Sox @ Twinkies 6:10PM - Road to 19
Texsox replied to DoUEvenShift's topic in 2024 Season in Review
Exactly. It's the right thing to do. And like I said they failed at that as well. It was going to make them worse this year. Imagine playing on a team that is trying to get worse. Especially if you know you won't be around when they get better. -

They were trying to get worse on purpose at the trade deadline and couldn't even manage that. -
Here's how the steak could end. Bartender "Hey guys it's 6 am and you're pretty drunk. Don't you have a game today?" A's entire team "f*** it, it's the Sox. Pour another round and break out the good stuff"
-
It would have been easier if Getz had managed a couple trades. To have a legit chance they need to start resting a couple players. Maybe skipping a few Crochet starts.
-
Agreed. And being a lifelong Chicago fan that's saying something. I watched some pretty bad teams in every major sport.
-
And what are they going to ask the next manager to do? These guys are playing on a team that will lose 120 games. Fans and the front office wanted this year's team to be even worse by trading anyone that could play for players who hopefully will be ready in two years. It didn't happen, but it's easy to see what that did to moral. So sure, toss in an interim. There is plenty of time left in the season for us to want him gone during the off season. Maybe they will get hot and win 20 the rest of the season. We'll never know but I really wish JR told him he was gone at the end of the season and for Getz to start the search for the next guy. Don't waste any more time on this season.

We don't want to rush him like others.
