    Gay Marriage

Who is most in need of marriage skills. The executive in Lake Forest or the struggling family in an inner city? Who is most likely to get that service or be able to afford it if it isn't available? If all it took to save a relationship is a BMW, some nice parks, good schools, and low crime no one on the north shore would ever get divorced.
  2. Are these the same founding fathers that "forgot" to let women have the vote and valued slaves at less than a full person?
  3. There are a lot of issues that need to be addressed. And I agree with all of those that you've pointed out. When times are tough in a marriage there are conflict management techniques that can help a couple work through it. If all the couple has seen are broken marriages what behavior do you expect? Not everyone is equiped to deal with a marriage in the high stress environment you've described. If fixing the environment is all that is necessary, than why does anyone in Kenilworth get divorced? One thing that should be addressed is using property taxes to fund schools. As a society we spend a lot of money on education but it isn't distributed in any sort of equitable manner. The poor schools remain poor and the rich schools have an abundance of resources. Better schools equal higher housing prices and more money to spend while poor schools equal lower demand for housing and the schools get worse. Highland Park, Texas required a Ph.D. for the H.S. Science teacher they hired in 2002. How many schools in the inner city could afford a PhD?
  4. damn baggio we agree. Is this a first LMAO If ten people get together and start a program that has a positive impact on their community. They have a track record of achievement, fiscal responsibility, etc. Why shouldn't we support their program just because it is housed at a Church and instead create a new one that is secular? Almost everyone here seems to have religious views, either pro or con. Should only the cons be allowed to work in a government program? And finally why should a Church program be treated differently than other community groups? These are, after all, fellow Americans with the same rights and responsibilites as everyone else. Would people also object if a secular community group like NRA, or AARP, of United Way received funding for a program?

I like them. I was just pointing out if we are looking spam we should look at other things that get posted repeatedly.
  6. And Nuke's been scouring the world looking for his next assignment
  7. I would counter that the family is the building block of our society. Kids do not spend all their time in parks and in schools. The family is the single biggest influence. Also, we are already spending a lot of money on those types of programs. Should we decide that, for example, schools are the #1 priority and we are going to shut down every other program and just concentrate on education? If we ever get that right then we will spend money on parks? When we get that right we will move on to something else? We have the capacity to work on multiple problems from multiple directions at the same time. That's the beauty of our abundance. One threat to families is poverty and underemployement. Financial stress is identified by many divorcing couples as the #1 problem. Sad thing is moms with kids almost always have lower standards of living after the marriage breaks up.

The uniersity has a policy about sexualy explicite photos. It seems to go beyond nudity. Nuke I assume even the military has guidelines regarding materials you can view. We wouldn't want you viewing anything too violent

I had someone complain at a clients when I was reading on a lunch break and then again at my school when a young lady took exception to Kongs' dancer. What bothered me is she could have just asked me to sit somewhere else, go to a different site, etc. Instead she reported me. Even the librarian had a hard time deciding if it broke the rules.
  10. You can not in Brasil. Brasil has too be carefull of pissing off tourism. Last I looked it was an important part of the economy. 8 hour delays in processing will have many tourists flocking to other locations. Brasil has the authority to protect their borders.
  11. My guess is some/a lot of this will be faith based. I am not too certain I agree or disagree. I believe for some people a vow to God means a lot more than a yes to a Judge. There are many existing marriage encounter type programs that could use additional funding. That makes more sense to me than creating new programs. Most marriage counseling is expensive, not covered by private insurance, and thus out of reach for the majority of couples. Some faith based programs, while using less trained and credentialed counselors may be more cost effective. Stand by your man? I agree with your sentiment and fear. But in many cases saving a marriage is based on standing by your spouse. That goes both ways. I was faced with just such a scenario and voted to stand by my wife. Best decision I've made. Should the US government be in the business of saving marriages? I'm not sure and lean towards no. Should the US government look to ways to save money? Yes. Sometimes two ideals will collide.

I'm not bothered by what people write. As I said earlier, just like around the office, the short "I agree" or LMAO is what greases the boards. I sometimes get frustrated when I have to wade through long signatures. I dislike picking on my friend 2k4 but his sigs, if laid end to end, are almost 3/4 of a mile long 1231 yards to be exact. And remember the sig just keeps repeating over and over again. Since we all have seen the scene it's all scrolling. In fact on my 19" monitor I can not read his entire post because the sig takes up 1/2 the screen. Now I love most of the sigs. Ribbie's party bus and the changing captions are great. "JR were at the airport who the hell are we picking up?" or "Ozzie the partyvan is all washed and gassed up for you!" In many threads I look for Nuke_Cleveland and the sigs make it easier. But sometimes they get long.
  13. Divorce costs us money (court fees, enforcing child support payments, social service (welfare), etc. Theoretically we would be saving those costs and the programs wouldn't cost as much even possibly save money. I'm not saying they will, only giving the possibility. It's the same with a lot of social issues. If we are spending XX on treatment, prisons, etc. and could save $X+1 by spending $X-1 isn't that a good deal? Intervention instead of prison? The problem comes in analyzing the cost/benefit ratio. It is difficult to say that Joe Doe would have gone to prison if it was not for this job training program which cost us $1billion.

Yes I was. To raise awareness of how bad spam could get on this board. Look at the thread that Fanof14 has regarding Brian passing his test several people passed on their congratulations with very short messages. I do not believe this is spam even though the messages are short congrats and repetative. I think before we call people spammers we need to recognize what it is we are talking about. I think SL&P should be more open for example then Pale Hose Talk. This is more hanging around time. When do messages bother you? When would you call it spam?
  15. There are a whole bunch of Native Americans on reservations that felt that way about their leaders . . .
  16. I remember the old days when it was just a few people with lawn chairs. It went from mystique, old school, and cool to crass commercialism. When the rooftops became auxilary seating; they get what they deserve. At least the roof top owners did not fake sell outs to up the price of their tickets. (I gotta slam them at least once)
  17. I agree. This doesn't seem like an upgrade at all. Unless there was some behind the scenes stuff going on. But that stuff is usally made public by the time the new coach is hired. But the king is dead, Long life the King! When did Lovie get off the island?

We've had our occassional discussion regarding spam and other behaviors on the board. I have a couple thoughts in no particular order. There is no way to fully describe spam. On one hand we all appreciate brevity. Get to the point and move on. On the other hand if you get too short some people stand up and shout spam! Each person has a monitor size. Messages take up space and determine how much scrolling we have to go through to read a thread. Signatures are the biggest user of space for 90% of the posts. For example when someone with a 5 inch sig is involved in a thread and has posted 10 times, we have 5 or 6 screen changes just getting past the sig. Isn't that a type of spam? Same message over and over again? Turn them off for a while and notice the space savings. It is also boring without them. Perhaps if you have a big sig you could shrink it or rotate between a couple. I try and entertain. Feedback is very nice. I enjoy a ROTFLMAO or . Some would call it spam, I call it a smile to my day. I think a few one line make the board a community of friends not just anonymous log in IDs. I try and start a couple theads of the day that may entertain or spark some discussion. Perhaps I and a few others start too many threads. I hope that doesn't stop others from beginning theads. I hold back stuff if we have 2 or 3 good discussions going. No use watering it down. Perhaps the other big thread starters do the same. If not maybe we should. Spelling and grammer. We all mistype, we all make spelling errors, if you are a habitual offender to the point that people have asked you to run your stuff through a spell checker, you may consider slowing down and trying to get it right. If you want someone to take you serious, spelling is important. Imagine this memo: Deer Krushef, TAKE yer misels out of cuba or I will bom you. john KEnnedy And finally I believe each forum has a certain personality and what works on SL&P isn't neccessarily good for Pale Hose. I believe SL&P has greater freedom of rigid rules than Pale Hose with the Sports Bar being somewhere in between those two. The Pics forum perhaps is looser than SL&P. Many people visit Pale Hose for information and intelligent discussion. The other forums are more entertainment.
  22. Well begood, you now know that a few people have grown weary of the caps thing and a couple do not like your nicknames, let's see what you do. This is a character issue.
  23. Dean was at my top with Lieberman at the bottom. I'm a little surprised. Clark was just behind George W. THe spread from top to bottom was 48% to 30%. I wonder if that's my centralist leanings or methodology of the survey. Do not forget, unless you know how they are matching it is not of much value. For example the creaters of the poll may weigh matching on Star Wars higher than mathcing on church welfare and boosting that up. As far as not letting the media decide, letting a web site, with a poll help you decide is just silly. I could invent a site with a pseudo-scientific poll where every compatability would place any candidate at the top or near top. Easy to manipulate.
