You can not in Brasil. Brasil has too be carefull of pissing off tourism. Last I looked it was an important part of the economy. 8 hour delays in processing will have many tourists flocking to other locations. Brasil has the authority to protect their borders.

My guess is some/a lot of this will be faith based. I am not too certain I agree or disagree. I believe for some people a vow to God means a lot more than a yes to a Judge. There are many existing marriage encounter type programs that could use additional funding. That makes more sense to me than creating new programs. Most marriage counseling is expensive, not covered by private insurance, and thus out of reach for the majority of couples. Some faith based programs, while using less trained and credentialed counselors may be more cost effective. Stand by your man? I agree with your sentiment and fear. But in many cases saving a marriage is based on standing by your spouse. That goes both ways. I was faced with just such a scenario and voted to stand by my wife. Best decision I've made. Should the US government be in the business of saving marriages? I'm not sure and lean towards no. Should the US government look to ways to save money? Yes. Sometimes two ideals will collide.

I'm not bothered by what people write. As I said earlier, just like around the office, the short "I agree" or LMAO is what greases the boards. I sometimes get frustrated when I have to wade through long signatures. I dislike picking on my friend 2k4 but his sigs, if laid end to end, are almost 3/4 of a mile long 1231 yards to be exact. And remember the sig just keeps repeating over and over again. Since we all have seen the scene it's all scrolling. In fact on my 19" monitor I can not read his entire post because the sig takes up 1/2 the screen. Now I love most of the sigs. Ribbie's party bus and the changing captions are great. "JR were at the airport who the hell are we picking up?" or "Ozzie the partyvan is all washed and gassed up for you!" In many threads I look for Nuke_Cleveland and the sigs make it easier. But sometimes they get long.

Divorce costs us money (court fees, enforcing child support payments, social service (welfare), etc. Theoretically we would be saving those costs and the programs wouldn't cost as much even possibly save money. I'm not saying they will, only giving the possibility. It's the same with a lot of social issues. If we are spending XX on treatment, prisons, etc. and could save $X+1 by spending $X-1 isn't that a good deal? Intervention instead of prison? The problem comes in analyzing the cost/benefit ratio. It is difficult to say that Joe Doe would have gone to prison if it was not for this job training program which cost us $1billion.

Yes I was. To raise awareness of how bad spam could get on this board. Look at the thread that Fanof14 has regarding Brian passing his test several people passed on their congratulations with very short messages. I do not believe this is spam even though the messages are short congrats and repetative. I think before we call people spammers we need to recognize what it is we are talking about. I think SL&P should be more open for example then Pale Hose Talk. This is more hanging around time. When do messages bother you? When would you call it spam?

There are a whole bunch of Native Americans on reservations that felt that way about their leaders . . .

Cubs wring money out of the rooftops
Texsox replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I remember the old days when it was just a few people with lawn chairs. It went from mystique, old school, and cool to crass commercialism. When the rooftops became auxilary seating; they get what they deserve. At least the roof top owners did not fake sell outs to up the price of their tickets. (I gotta slam them at least once) -
I agree. This doesn't seem like an upgrade at all. Unless there was some behind the scenes stuff going on. But that stuff is usally made public by the time the new coach is hired. But the king is dead, Long life the King! When did Lovie get off the island?

We've had our occassional discussion regarding spam and other behaviors on the board. I have a couple thoughts in no particular order. There is no way to fully describe spam. On one hand we all appreciate brevity. Get to the point and move on. On the other hand if you get too short some people stand up and shout spam! Each person has a monitor size. Messages take up space and determine how much scrolling we have to go through to read a thread. Signatures are the biggest user of space for 90% of the posts. For example when someone with a 5 inch sig is involved in a thread and has posted 10 times, we have 5 or 6 screen changes just getting past the sig. Isn't that a type of spam? Same message over and over again? Turn them off for a while and notice the space savings. It is also boring without them. Perhaps if you have a big sig you could shrink it or rotate between a couple. I try and entertain. Feedback is very nice. I enjoy a ROTFLMAO or . Some would call it spam, I call it a smile to my day. I think a few one line make the board a community of friends not just anonymous log in IDs. I try and start a couple theads of the day that may entertain or spark some discussion. Perhaps I and a few others start too many threads. I hope that doesn't stop others from beginning theads. I hold back stuff if we have 2 or 3 good discussions going. No use watering it down. Perhaps the other big thread starters do the same. If not maybe we should. Spelling and grammer. We all mistype, we all make spelling errors, if you are a habitual offender to the point that people have asked you to run your stuff through a spell checker, you may consider slowing down and trying to get it right. If you want someone to take you serious, spelling is important. Imagine this memo: Deer Krushef, TAKE yer misels out of cuba or I will bom you. john KEnnedy And finally I believe each forum has a certain personality and what works on SL&P isn't neccessarily good for Pale Hose. I believe SL&P has greater freedom of rigid rules than Pale Hose with the Sports Bar being somewhere in between those two. The Pics forum perhaps is looser than SL&P. Many people visit Pale Hose for information and intelligent discussion. The other forums are more entertainment.

Well begood, you now know that a few people have grown weary of the caps thing and a couple do not like your nicknames, let's see what you do. This is a character issue.

Dean was at my top with Lieberman at the bottom. I'm a little surprised. Clark was just behind George W. THe spread from top to bottom was 48% to 30%. I wonder if that's my centralist leanings or methodology of the survey. Do not forget, unless you know how they are matching it is not of much value. For example the creaters of the poll may weigh matching on Star Wars higher than mathcing on church welfare and boosting that up. As far as not letting the media decide, letting a web site, with a poll help you decide is just silly. I could invent a site with a pseudo-scientific poll where every compatability would place any candidate at the top or near top. Easy to manipulate.

What goes on in the bedroom isn't anyones business. We all know that is wrong. Sex with minors is wrong. Some may argue that having multiple spouses is wrong. Sex between siblings is wrong, but if we eliminate potential sex in a marriage brotehrs could marry sisters. How are we going to define civil union? Is it based on physical sexual acts? That you must be having sex or it isn't a union? Most are going to say no. But then think about this. If we allow civil unions and sex is not an issue that someone could walk up to their employer and say "my sister and I are in a committed, long term, non sexual, civil union and you are required by law to extend health benefits. By the way she has multiple health problems, have a nice day. " If you have a buddy who isn't working and doesn't have health benefits, just form a union. Want tax relief? Form a union. Have a buddy who can't immigrate? Form a union. Divorce is cheap. Far better would be to eliminate any tax, employee, civil benefits that are tied into being married. Base everything by the individual. That way any civil unions or marriages do not come with a payoff, both straight and gay.

Editorial Reviews From Publishers Weekly In her newest book, Schlessinger (10 Stupid Things Women Do to Mess Up Their Lives) relies upon her experience in private practice, radio and letters she received from men and women in tackling the issue of women who mistreat their men and suffer the consequences of unhappiness. The women who criticize their husbands in the stories that Schlessinger relates are depressed in their marriages and feel little love from their husbands. Unabashedly asserting that man is a "very simple creature," who needs only "direct communication, respect, appreciation, food, and good loving'" to respond with devotion, compassion and love, this controversial marriage and family therapist claims that every woman can achieve a deeply satisfying marriage if she adheres to certain fundamentals men require. Preparing dinner, caring for the children without complaint, greeting her husband with a kiss and engaging in sexual intimacy instead of "tearing down a husband's necessary sense of strength and importance" can result in the harmonious marriage women crave. While many of her listeners and readers claim her unequivocal advice has salvaged teetering marriages and improved marital harmony, others perceive Schlessinger as a throwback to what many see as years of female oppression in the home. Doh, men are like tile, lay them right the first time and you can walk over them for the rest of their lives. Cut the crap, guys will take all sorts of abuse if the sex is great.

January 8, 2004 Dear Diary -- My State of the Union Speech is comin up soon & fer once I'm lookin forward to it. And the best part is Karl promised that I'll get ta give at least four more of em. Although Karl did admit he's just a teeny bit worried about that nasty Dean feller on accounta he's such a loose cannon. He says if Dean's the candidate I'm gonna have ta do a lotta extra debate practicin, cause Dean's the kinda guy that might make me lose my temper. I joked that these days everybody makes me lose my temper. That Karl has no sensa humor. Anyway, I don't know see why I have to debate anybody. After all, I captured Saddam, and that's all anybody needs ta know. But Karl says I won't be able to get outta at least a coupla debates, but that I'll be fine. Especially since I'm way taller than Dean & the tall guy always wins. He also wants me ta watch some of my 2000 election tapes so I can remember how ta do my moderate, humble foreign policy, compassionate conservative shtick. Damn! I was hopin I'd only haveta use the cowboy act, which is a whole lot easier. Plus it gives me an excuse ta hang out at the ranch, clear cedar, and throw horseshoes at Barney. Like I told Karl, I'm not worried about the election cause my pal Pat Robertson says God's on my side and that I'm gonna win no matter what. But Karl says God or no God, I still have to practice my SOTU speech. From here with more

I wouldn't mind being the last straight guy on earth. "Hey, what do you do for a living?" "I'm straight" "Ohh I guess you are too busy to work . . ."

It's been more than that. Now if school districts were open about this problem we could start going back to school.

MARINE CITY, Mich. -- The Vatican has upheld the suspension of a Michigan priest and has defrocked a second priest, both of whom were accused of sexually abusing minors, the Archdiocese of Detroit said Sunday. The Roman Catholic Church upheld Detroit Cardinal Adam Maida's decision to place the Reverend James Wysocki, 63, on leave from his job as pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Marine City on Feb. 1, 2003. Maida acted after an Archdiocesan Review Board found evidence of sexual abuse during the early years of Wysocki's ministry. Prosecutors did not seek charges because of statute of limitations issues. Maida asked Wysocki to resign, but the priest declined and instead appealed to the Vatican. The Rev. Timothy Birney was installed Sunday as pastor of Holy Cross, the archdiocese said. Wysocki was ordained in 1967 and became associate pastor at St. Michael Parish in Pontiac. In 1972, he took on additional responsibility as chaplain and counselor at Pontiac Catholic High School. In 1977, he became pastor of St. Mary Queen of Creation Parish in New Baltimore. In a letter to parishioners, Maida asked for "continued prayers for the church, for Father Wysocki and Father Birney," the archdiocese said in a news release. "It is my hope and prayer ... Holy Cross Parish will continue to move forward in our common service of the Lord and his people." Maida also announced Sunday that Pope John Paul II had issued a decree dismissing the Rev. Joseph Sito, 68, from the priesthood, a process known as laicization. Sito has been on leave since 1993 from his job as pastor of St. Cletus Parish in Warren "due to substantive allegations of sexual abuse of minors," the archdiocese said. In 1999, Sito was charged with fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct after he was accused of convincing a 17-year-old boy to expose himself, court records show. In a deal with the prosecutor's office, Sito pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of assault, and the sex offense was dismissed. He paid a fine and did not go to jail. hypocrites
