And critics claim our public schools have gone down hill . . . I do have to cut him some slack, I would pay for a spell checker

Say what you will about Gammons but any trade rumour that lands Frank in LA may have some basis. We've heard a few times that Frank wouldn't mind LA and getting him there probably wouldn't be an easy trade so some three way, 8 player + cash thing might be the way it goes down. This doesn't make sense with Daubach being released. I figured that was a clear sign that Frank was here for 2004.

no problem. just wanted to explain. I didn't want my Sox cred to suffer, I have too much emotional investment already.

There was a ton of reasons for wanting to go to Texas. Andy's in-laws are from here and his wife and he wanted to be near family. He took less to be in Tex. I can fully understand him wanting to live in Texas. I wasn't born here but I got here as fast as I could.

Journalism was my first major. Before you decide to major in Journalism, check out the newspapers or media outlets you want to work for and ask them what education they would like to see. A long time ago I was at a College Journalism convention in Chicago and the publisher of the Sun Times told us he didn't want to hire Journalism majors. He wanted *good writers* who knew about Economics, or Politics, or Middle East Issues because when he assigned them those type of stories they would have some knowledge of what was going on. He didn't care if you wrote a thesis about William Randolph Hurst and were an expert on 19th Century newspapers. That may have changed. YMMV Build a clip file at your college paper but don't get too involved, the newspaper staff has a very high drop out rate because they already think they are journalists and spend too much time writing about college than doing it. Off soap box. Ignore the old guy if you like. Good luck. ###

Godfather, Couple of things you might not know. I live in Texas so having a "local" team just makes sense. I've been a Sox fan for over 40 years despite being born on the north side (Ravenswood Hospital) and growing up in Lake County. As far as jumping ship, I'm not certain what I wrote that has you believing I'm jumping ship. I was merely looking for a second team, a NL team, to cheer as well. This is mostly Ranger country but that would hit too close to my heart because when they play the Sox I make the 12 hour drive to catch a couple games and cheer the Sox. I am secure in my Sox loyalty and can dance with another when the music is right, but will always go home with the Sox. I will also continue to cheer the Edinburg Roadrunners.

Are we making room for Raffy?

It crawls for me. The only source for Sox news for me is here. I may fly up to Chicago next week to visit my family.

BCS, Why Conf Champs only is bad idea
Texsox replied to Texsox's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
A lot depends on how you view the conferences. Are they divisions of a league in which case half the NCAA Div 1 teams are left out of consideration (and possibly correctly) or do we have 100+ teams all vying in a beauty contest of sorts? The NCAA could call the 6 major conferences divisions, then set up a playoff with those 6 conferences and only count wins and loses within those conferences . The two wildcards teams would be teams with the best records against other Big 6 conference schools. The smaller schools who fund a lot of their programs by playing Enormous U for cash and prizes will suffer or half to fold, but the playoffs will be cleaner. Right now smaller Div 1 schools are paid to play these games which almost guarantee the big school a win. I still think it is wrong to legislate that a conference can't have the two best teams in the nation. Basketball allows it and so should football. Even within the Big 6 a couple conferences are stronger than the others. Right now the Big 12 and Big 10 are both pretty powerful conferences. -
Dammit I'm starting to have positive thought. It's these players who put a team over the top. Guys who haven't contributed that have excellent break out years. I'm hoping Crede will also . . . I must block those positives thoughts out. We are a 5th place team. I can't get my hopes up.

If U of I says no the first time go through their appeal process. Three of three guys I know who were turned down initially got in on appeal. Your letter of reference will be key.

With the Mexico jobs most are maquilla operations with the engineers and other managers living in the US and crossing every day. I did it for a few years. Kind of a cool environment. Border living is interesting.

So if Ohio State and Michigan finished 1-2 in the polls you would favor throwing one out and letting the highest rated team from another conference play? -
It was only carried locally. I'm hoping for a rap parody to take it international. Thanks for asking. Friends again?

Now that Colon is the enemy I tried to bump ncorgbls (IMHO) excellent Elton John parody. I hope he doesn't mind me quoting him and starting a new thread. I wish we had kept him (colon) but at least we can laugh as our pitching staff sinks. Begin quoting ncorgbl When are you gonna come down Where will your contract land I should have stayed on the farm I should have listened to the old man You know you can't bait me forever I couldn't sign up with you I'm not a checkbook for your friends to open This boy's too young to be singing the blues So goodbye Bartolo Colon Where the dogs of big league baseball howl You won't let me in your penthouse I'm going back to my plough Back to the howling old room in the woods Hunting the next major league lode Oh I've finally decided my future lies Beyond the Charlotte road What do you think you'll eat then I bet you'll stay a tub o' goo It'll take you a couple of dozen burritos To never see your feet again Maybe you'll get a new G.M. There's plenty like me to be found Mongrels who ain't got a penny Sniffing for tidbits like you on the ground So goodbye Bartolo Colon Where the dogs of big league baseball howl You won't let me in your penthouse I'm going back to my plough Back to the howling old room in the woods Hunting the next major league lode Oh I've finally decided my future lies Beyond the Charlotte road --------------------

A couple other pluses The career earning would probably be greater with a NU degree. ~ and ~ Think of all the money you will save by not going to bowl games every year I know, it would have been funnier and truer other years.
