  1. While I don't agree with Roman, I do appreciate his announcing to the world his views.

    WTF?

IMHO a pitcher getting suspended for retaliating is different than cheating. I player suspended for returning a punch when a batter charges the mound is different than cheating. A manager suspended for too rigourously (it does happen) arguing a wrong call is different than cheating. I can appreciate your black and white view of this and agree it makes the best policy. My guess is the player's union wouldn't go for it and MLB teams like the flexibility to help or screw thier players. How could Shamey survive without that $500,000?
  4. The Diary of Jawad Amer Sayed . He's lucky his family didn't have a twisted sense of humor. Imagine in another twenty years deciding the hell with it and coming out to learn "Saddam? He's been gone for 20 years! Didn't anyone tell you?"
  5. I believe it was either borderstar or jimmybw. At my age the memory is the second thing to go. I forgot the first.

    WTF?

Dibble also mentioned the 7 times he was suspended with the Reds they paid him every time. I agree with paying in a situation like Colon had for hitting a guy after his guys got plucked. But this was b.s. the guy was caught red handed cheating. Cork, the other way to cheat.
  7. We are on the road . . . They should be happy they aren't facing E-Lo!
  8. If we're playing for fun, make it more challenging. Pick the final score. Scoring 1 point for winner 3 points for guessing teams total -1 point for every run difference. Example Guess Sox win 7-5 Actual Sox win 6-2 1 point for guessing winner 2 pts for Sox ttl (3-1=2) 0 pts for Opp. ttl (3-3=0) 3 Points total Keep total points for season. Too complicated?

    WTF?

ESPN just reported that Shamey is getting paid during his suspension. Think they would do the same for a Trib reporter?
  10. s***, built in excuse for all the Cub fans. 2 of 3 would be very acceptable. 1 of 3 doable. 0 for 3 wouldn't surprise me. Right now they are playing better than we are. Of course I'm hoping for the sweep! My long distance bill we be huge.
  11. Yes, I'm still there, though a whole bunch of the 'good ones' are here now. I'll probaly do both, and try to cut down a bit, too! The only trolls we have here are Sox fans and that's just a matter of opinion and how it's stated. I knew to get away from mlb when I started sounding like a troll just to defend myself. As I recall you always were treated with respect and admiration
  12. lol Those gloves do look funny. I tried a 30's vintage glove on and it wasn't just the size that was weird but the padding. I couldn't imagine trying to field with one of those. It must have taken months to break one in. Thinking of Don Kessinger another factor is players are quicker than they use to be. They are getting to balls and committing errors on balls that would have gone as untouched hits. Perhaps it is the attempts that make it look like players are worse.

    WinningUgly....

Unfortunately not. I was a Tier II Account Research Supervisor for my mortgage company at the time, and had I been in my current position of Systems Analyst, I would have had the application the Quality Assurance manager has to listen to and score customer service calls. I could have saved the call on an AUD or WAV file then e-mailed it to whoever. The only thing we do have is the "Kenny Williams Sucks!" wav on ArneHarris' signature. That could have been the all time classic wav to pass around. BTW does anyone have Lee Elia's Cub fan rant as a aud or wav? That was Les Grobsteins greatest moment.
  14. Ncorgbl, Are you still spending some time over there? I couldn't handle the trolls. I couldn't tell the good guys from the bad. More fun here.
  15. Hey. how long will I be a September call up?
  16. The cops let us out first figuring that from the looks of things we got our ass kicked and would leave fast. Hell the bars were still open so we went back for 1 more. Of course we ran into those guys again. We stayed in jail the rest of the night. One of their guys and I were the only ones judged innocent of all charges. We basically explained how we went for help.

It's a small world. The best jobs aren't advertised. You never know who knows someone who is hiring for what could be your dream job. BTW it's another good reason to always be respectful online. Good luck in your search. Have you thought about starting your own business?
  18. I started following the team around 1973 so I'm celebrating 30 years of unfullfilled expectations (World Series). It could be argued that those mid 60's teams were just part of 80+ years of unfullfilled expectations. You are correct and I've enjoyed the recaps. I just wanted to have a little fun with the 3 year thing.
  19. Might not be a fair comparison. Equipment has changed. I wonder what Lee's stats would be with the tiny glove that Joe played with. Plus scorers today are encouraged to rule plays as hits not errors for fan appeal. Hits not errors mean better fielders and hitters, at least on the surface. Still a good point. Maybe we have set the standards higher.
  20. One factor that should point towards better fundementals is H.S. athletes now specialize way more than a generation ago. (Old guy talking) In my day everyone wanted to letter in three sports. The only reason someone did less was they sucked at every sport during one of the seasons. Now, at least here in Texas, kids are practicing, working out, going to camps, for one sport. A two sport athlete is something special, and if some kid tried to letter in three the coaches would go nuts. Each coach is trying to recruit kids to his program alone and doesn't want to share. That should mean kids are getting better training but they aren't. Perhaps fundementals aren't stressed in the countries that we import players from. Speaking of importing players, are we in a trade deficit regarding baseball players? I'm certain hockey is. We also seem to have a net gain in Basketball players with the US exporting more than we import. Football is a no brainer, I'm certain we export more than import. But baseball must be close to a trade balance in the majors.
  21. 3 year run?! Would you like to rethink that?
  22. We drink more then they do? We were busy building an offense. We drafted and promoted guys who's hitting abilities are stronger than their fielding. We can sell more tickets to a 10-6 game than a 2-1 game. Offense is the game today and JR is going to promote mlb's plan all the way.
  23. We're not responsible for our actions. The government has to take care of us. If they don't who will?
  24. I was up in Lake Geneva when a good friend of mine who happens to be 6'9" leans way over to read this woman's tee shirt. He was staring at her chest to read "It's not the size of the sail but the motion of the ocean" through bleery beer goggles he looks at her then looks at her boyfriend and slurs "Small dick huh?" Later, when we made bail for the ensuing fight against him and his four friends, we had a good laugh.
