And who added big giving up top 100 prospects?
-
So if you're a rival GM and Eloy had a healthy stretch would you forget his history? How excited would you be if we traded for him after a "healthy streak"? I think every GM is at least as savvy as the average poster here.
-
C As always we're at the wrong end of a market trend. We're sellers in a buyer's market. Not accepting current market conditions for the little talent he was trying to sell, was probably a win. I didn't see any top 100 prospects traded. I wouldn't have accepted less for either player. Is he the GM who could convince a rival GM to pay over current market for a player? I doubt it.
-
So you think he asked for too much and wouldn't accept less? Asked for too little? Forgot to answer the phone? Another team calls, you look at their prospects, offer a trade. I agree he's probably bad at his job like every GM that JR has hired. There isn't secret Jedi mind tricks that cause GMs to overpay. The Sox are negotiating from a position of extreme weakness. Everyone knows they need to get rid of every decent player and try to build. As a rival GM there just isn't a need to offer the Sox a stellar or even equal return.
-
What did he ask for and what was offered?
-
I want to sell you my old truck for $80,000. It has 60,000 miles. Am I a poor salesman if you walk away? If no one is willing to part with a "decent return" do you walk away or beg? Maybe he is bad, he probably is like every GM that has worked for the Sox, but without knowing what he asked for, and what was counter offered, it's a guess. Did he ask for too much? Was he unwilling to settle for less? Again, if you are a GM and the Sox are calling, you have the upper hand. They aren't going to compete, they have a cheap ass owner, and trying really hard to get rid of players. Why offer a haul? Low ball and wait until they cave.
-
If you were a GM my negotiating with the Sox would you give away the farm to make a deal? It's obvious we are desperate sellers. He probably kept getting low balled with every team expecting him to cave. A good GM would walk away and keep his guy. It's not like we have stars on walk years.
-
My guess is if he took the best offer folks would have complained he lost the deal. Let's hope for a strong second half and an of season trade.

Crochet guaranteed himself not pitching in the playoffs.

That's genius level for Getz.

If there ever was an expert on being un-hirable it's Oz.

Personally I hope it's the worst clubhouse ever. To think they are harmonious and all pulling together would make this season 1000x worse. But hey JR, here's your new walk up tune A change, it had to come We knew it all along We were liberated from the fold, that's all And the world looks just the same And history ain't changed 'Cause the banners, they all flown in the last war I'll tip my hat to the new Constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again, no, no

This team could have easily won 30 games by now with the right manager. Great players, even very good players, can overcome bad coaching. Guys lucky to be on a MLB roster need great coaching to stay barely on a MLB roster. Here's the saddest part, most of the players are playing to their potential. Next step? College managing? Bench coach for an old buddy?
-
A decent starting player on the worst team of all time. It's like being the tallest midget. If we had an entire roster of his level we'd only by 5 games under .500 at this point. Move the body.
-
Today's will be great. "We tried to make the team worse for the rest of this season by trading anyone that could make someone's roster. Sadly we failed and we're all in on the rest of this season. We're increasing our season projection to 35 wins from 31."

Latest as of early 7/30 GC likely to move, LR not

Great job Chris. Holding firm and not looking desperate. He has really sold the "hey, we don't mind keeping these awesome players". The best deal he can get will look like a failure, if he doesn't make a deal today it will look like a failure. -

Our guys are likely to get hurt, whomever we get in return will stay healthy until they put on a Sox uniform. Then they will get injured also and lose value. -
Crochet wants an extension to pitch in the playoffs

Are you thinking that's going to make someone here sad? Upset? I don't believe we have any minor children posting here* that would react that way. *Since you seem to have left. -

I forgot they are playing, not just trying to trade everyone. -

Nobody is thinking he's going to throw seven strong innings and increasing his value? Me neither ?

Let's sit everyone until Wednesday.
