  1. In the spirit of your post . . . I love your perspective! It's the right mix of die-hard Sox spirit and tongue-in-cheek realism that any true fan can appreciate. Here are some witty responses you can build on: 1. Embrace the "Stay-Puft" spirit: "You had me at 'motivated clubhouse' until you hit me with the Moncada-as-cancer bit. But hey, if we're channeling Ghostbusters, let's go full Stay-Puft! We might melt under the pressure, but at least we'll go down in a sticky, sugary blaze of glory." 2. Channel your inner Eloy: "Eloy might not be able to outrun a sloth anymore, but hey, maybe that just means he'll finally have the patience to wait for a good pitch! Plus, with all that extra weight, he can double as a human battering ram at first base. Who needs stolen bases when you can just knock down the entire outfield wall?" 3. Celebrate the "no-name" bullpen: "No-name bullpen? Sounds like the perfect opportunity for some underdog magic! They'll come out of nowhere, throwing heat like Mariano Rivera in his prime, fueled by nothing but hot dogs and a burning desire to prove everyone wrong. Just imagine the headlines: 'No-Name Bullpen Becomes MLB's Most Feared Unit, Strikes Fear into Hearts of Opposing Batters.'" 4. Poke fun at the "doomsayers": "The doomsayers can keep drowning their sorrows in Goose Island IPA while we're busy celebrating unexpected walk-off wins and improbable comebacks. They wouldn't know a pennant race if it hit them in the face with a foul ball (which, knowing this team, is entirely possible)." 5. Keep it light and optimistic: "Look, maybe we won't win the World Series. Maybe we'll still spend most nights staring longingly at the crosstown rivals across the street. But hey, at least we'll have each other, shared groans at questionable ump calls, and the eternal hope that next year will be different. And who knows, maybe this year will be different. After all, even Stay-Puft had a soft spot for marshmallows." Remember, the key is to laugh along with the absurdity while holding onto that glimmer of hope. Go Sox! (But maybe pack an umbrella for all those Stay-Puft tears...just in case.

    Job Thread

Their job is to aquire talent. You're talent. I would go head first and call them at their office. But my background is sales and I didn't do much cold calling but being direct and enthusiastic with lots of research was key.
  3. You know you will get 100% every time he steps on the field. He'll be prepared. I wish him the best.
  4. In this case the fans around them did talk. No one around the victim saw or heard a gunshot. I believe them. Folks get caught with guns in restricted areas every day. Bars, banks, schools, stadiums. If they are otherwise law abiding citizens they receive a warning. We don't lock up folks on their first offense. We don't lock up folks for what might happen. I agree with everything you believe should happen. I disagree that there is some conspiracy at work. The Sox didn't need to silence this. They just needed this to be handled like gun business as usual in America. And the deck was stacked against this ever being solved. Witnesses that didn't see or hear anything. A victim that isn't screaming for justice. (Also leads me to believe it was an accidental shot from a friend) Lax punishments if someone was caught. Unless a terrorist. Overworked cops with even more serious crimes. Poor crime scene actions.
  5. I agree. That's what should happen. It's not what I consider lower level, it's what the justice departments consider it. As I said let's vote for politicians that will change that. But that doesn't happen in 'merica.
  6. I like that. Actually there is another team that could use it The 2024 Chicago Light Sox

  9. They never should have been the Oakland As. That should have stayed in Philadelphia when they moved after fifty years. Close the record books on the Philadelphia As. Then when they moved have new records for the Kansas City (new name). Then when they moved again start records for the Oakland (new name). Now start a new set of records for wherever they land next. When Kansas City was an expansion team they should have had the choice to keep the records from when a team played there or start with a clean slate.
  10. He attended UW Madison. I don't believe he grew up in the area.
  11. That's exactly what I was saying. I understand bringing a gun into a restricted area is a crime. I also understand that accidentally injuring someone is a crime. It escalates from a misdemeanor based on what actually happened to the victim, not what might have happened. Now look at convictions and the likely punishment. Our justice system doesn't put people in prison for this. Especially with an uncooperative victim. How is it trolling pointing out a fact? I'm all for increasing the penalties. I vote for candidates that promise to do that. Gun laws in this country are b.s. and need to be tightened. I believe nothing has happened because of b.s. gun laws which treat accidental discharge as a misdemeanor, lax penalties for carrying in restricted areas, and underfunded and overworked police with bigger crimes to solve. You think it's a conspiracy and the above is trolling.
  12. Yep. And of all the crimes committed in Chicago how many people are you going to put on this case? One? Five? Ten? There are so many unsolved murders, assaults, and other violent crimes with victims demanding justice and where the penalty would be actual prison time. That's the reality of crime in America. I really wish someone getting accidentally shot was so unusual that ten cops would immediately be on the case. But we underfund the police and justice system.
  13. I'm for real, but the folks that write and prosecute the laws might not be. I'm not certain why you think that is me. Our society generally punishes people for what actually happens, not what could have happened. Hurt someone while driving drunk is different than killing someone. Same principle here. Luckily is the key. We don't tell a drunk driver that luckily you didn't kill anyone but we're still going to charge you with manslaughter. Yes, the probability of this case getting the max is higher because of the location. Now if you are outraged that the punishment is so little I suggest voting for leaders who will toughen these laws. VP Dick Chaney accidentally shot someone and he didn't even apologize. I believe the punishment in addition to whatever damage the shooter caused should also be the automatic loss of your concealed carry license on the first and loss of all rights and automatic disposal of any weapons on the second. But in most states that will make convicting more of a challenge.
  14. "ROSCOE, Ill. (WIFR) - A 34-year-old faces child endangerment charges after an accidental shooting in Roscoe. Police responded just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday Roscoe to the 10000 block of Bitterroot Road for reports of a juvenile with a gunshot wound. During the investigation, police say they discovered a family member accidentally discharged a firearm inside of the residence hitting the minor in the leg. Richard Heimer was arrested and the minor was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing but have no further details to release at this time." Which in Illinois In Illinois, child endangerment is typically charged as a Class A misdemeanor. A first offense can result in a jail sentence of up to 364 days and a fine of up to $2,500. The conviction may also include mandatory fees and costs.
  15. Let's follow this case https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/boy-accidentally-shot-south-side-gas-station/ CBS 2 Legal Analyst Irv Miller earlier said if the man did not have a Firearm Owners Identification Card or a Concealed Carry License, he would be with unlawful use of a weapon if he's not licensed. But if he had that license, he might not have faced charges, Miller siad. "Unless he was basically violating the criminal laws of the State of Illinois and acting either recklessly or intentionally - or there's some evidence that he was putting this child's life in danger by something that he did, which may end up an endangering the life of the child charge – I don't suspect that he would be a charged at this point in time," Miller said. https://abc7chicago.com/calumet-heights-gas-station-chicago-shooting-caught-on-camera/12723230/ No follow up stories that I could find. But generally at best for the person who had the accident these get dismissed sometimes a small fine.
  16. Accidental discharge doesn't even involve jail time. Go put resources at crimes where people actually died or where victims are complaining. Dick Cheney did worse to Harry Whittingham and there wasn't this much angst and conspiracy theory.
  17. With all the unsolved murders, sexual assault cases, etc why put resources on this? The victim isn't complaining. The only reason anyone cares is it's inside a stadium. Well that and those that hate JR or the Sox.
  18. If they flop they weren't ready and the Sox suck for rushing them. If they do well they are held back and should have been on the roster last year and the Sox still suck.
  19. With the distance a bullet can travel there really isn't any safe place in the city. We've discussed the possibilities of a long distance shot a few pages back. While I still believe it's entirely possible the shot came from outside it's like Rich Strike winning the Derby, the longest of long shots.
  20. Because the owners bring in billions. If they don't pay salaries like that, they will earn obscene profits. Remember during the strike how fans wanted the players to all get a bigger share?
  21. Historically this will be a slightly below average season with historically low expectations. I think they can avoid 100 losses. They won't beat themselves and don't have anyone on the roster who has been arrested for that.
  22. Not the stadium, the one in Montreal. Interesting how the construction techniques create major demolition problems. https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/how-could-it-cost-2-billion-to-demolish-montreal-olympic-stadium-experts-ask/wcm/6f4a1161-aa3a-4b21-9b1d-0823a78157d2/amp/
  23. @South Side Hit Men Excellent list with Abreu, Baines, Beuhrle, Lemon, Sale, Thomas, and Ventura. I wouldn't argue any of those names. Now look at the reality. $19 million plus per year for Abreu. Does it make sense for this team and for Abreu to be playing in Chicago next season? Sentimentality, sure it would have been nice, but it works out well for both.
