  1. Surround yourself with people who are better, smarter, and more capable than you are is an old business adage. For Getz that is so easy an assistant college coach and high school coach with zero MLB experience meet the criteria.
  2. TL:DR worst team in baseball with no hope of recovery.
  3. Nothing I love more than reliving memories of the HoF guys that have come and gone. No, not you.
  4. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/38793943/way-too-early-2024-mlb-power-rankings Spoiler alert -- scroll to 30th
  5. A really good friend of mine while in high school attended basketball camp at Indiana. On the final day they met Coach Knight. He said Knight spoke about basketball and character like our Parish Priest spoke about God.
  6. We already knew a wildcard team would win the WS. Instead of teams playing meaningless games in September those fans can still dream of a WS even if they are out of division championship chances. Division championship banners are nice decorations for some franchises, but a WS win is so much more.
  7. Baseball needs to shed about ten teams that nobody cares about.

Pops has faced 307 different head coaches during that time. If he's not the GOAT he's close.
  9. I love that I now use my White Sox t-shirts for dirty nasty jobs hoping they get ruined. I have particularly targeted "The Boys Are Back" 2021 Opening Day T-shirt.
  10. I'm certain Vaughn wishes he spent more time in the minors. Riding buses. Working with the minor league staffs. The stuff dreams are made of. He probably fought like crazy to not be moved up. Told them repeatedly he couldn't play the outfield. But they didn't listen.
  11. That's something I wouldn't have believed. Thank you for the insight. Let's hope this guy is worth 5 or 6.
  12. It's been 25 days since the last White Sox loss. That hasn't happened since April 2023.
  13. This is getting bigger. https://wolverineswire.usatoday.com/2023/10/25/report-ncaa-suspicion-started-with-info-accessed-by-coaches-on-michigan-football-computers/
  14. The longer the goodbye, the faster the return.
  15. You love it here too much to go away. Kimbrel was runner up as Arizona MVP
  16. My daughter lives in Houston, not so happy there. I was mostly pulling for the Rangers, they are the most "Sox-like" but knowing I'd be invited to a WS game in Houston would have been a great consolation prize.
  17. Jimbo, it's getting hotter https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/38727023/u-m-staffer-bought-tickets-11-schools
  18. I've met him a couple times and I have to admit I'm a huge fan. Jeff Traylor is a great human being. https://footballscoop.com/news/jeff-traylor-rat-trap-mack-brown-posion-cheese
  19. @Balta1701 And nothing happened in the Mets/Yankees case. One of the keys is JR was not in negotiations and was not in concert with any other clubs. For it to affect the market other teams would have to believe the Sox were serious bidders. Which we both know wasn't going to happen. If we know it, and the vast majority of the world knows it, then any GM seriously negotiating for Ohtani will know it. The only GM possibly dumb enough to believe the Sox were serious bidders is Getz. And obviously he wouldn't be in serious negotiations. I'm not saying it was a good thing, I agree it's making a public statement that should be private both for internal moral and for public relations. It just isn't anything MLB or the Player's Union has previously pursued.
  20. He didn't comment about the amount Ohtani is asking, or hint that there was any collusion between owners preventing the team from bidding. It also would be difficult to prove the union's gold standard that it harmed Ohtani's value. So I'm not certain that's a violation. I'm more curious than anything. The Mets and Yankees had a much more serious issue last year that didn't result in anything, this seems like nothing in comparison. I enjoy criticizing JR as much as anybody but I can't get too worked up over this with all the other stupid, self destructive, idiocy he's done.
  21. True. If he's as good as they make him out to be, he's really underpaid.
