When JR builds that suburban park he will also follow the Rangers' lead and own a piece of the hotels, restaurants, and bars that will also be built adding to his revenue streams. The team will also rebound like the Rangers and have a winning season. Or not. Just because it's working in Dallas doesn't mean it will work in Chicago.

I'm checking the Rangers' scores. They may become my second team.

I wish the last month of the season was just for teams with actual mlb talent.

Kenny pissed you off. The Marlins went straight to Kenny. Know who pissed you off* *Eventually it is everyone in the franchise for one hundred years.

April 2021

The only thing worse than September games that don't matter are August games that don't matter.
-
Only two were inducted as managers. The rest earned their way as players.

Thus making winning the AL or NL meaningless. Then winning a division was made less meaningful. We still crown a champion, fans celebrate, some mourn. I prefer head to head deciding a champion, you like how well they play against other opponents. Right now we have teams playing playoff meaningful games in many cities. Maybe you don't think those games are meaningful but they are very meaningful to those fans. Playing a couple months with only a few teams having a chance isn't in the games best interest. Imho Folks said baseball was ruined when they decided on nine innings instead of first team to score 21 runs. How could you think a team won who only scored 15 runs? Crazy. The game changes with the times. Fans want technology to call balls and strikes. Eventually it will happen and the game moves on. Eventually we may have a truly World Series with the winners of leagues around the world. That won't make winning the US meaningless. first three beers are on me next time I'm in town.

People once cared. I agree. Once men stopped wearing ties and hats to the game it was doomed. Once they added more than eight teams the sport was ruined. Nine inning was horrible. We should go back to two separate leagues with two champions who don't play each other. Designated hitter? Relief pitchers? Horrible. Right now end the season for all the crappy teams below .500 and finish the regular season with teams that can actually play. Then September games would actually be meaningful. There is nothing meaningful with a Sox - Rockies game now.

Lol.

Al Lopez Tony LaRussa 125+ years of Sox baseball. Two HoF managers. And most folks here believe Tony wasn't worthy of being in the hall. So maybe one. So why should we expect anyone better than what we've had throughout our history?

"So he was good two out of three seasons" JR

I think there needs to be two or three Jerry sell the team games each week to get his attention. I want him to sell the team just to shake things up. I know it will continue to be the same old franchise, with the same results. Not at least it will be someone new to complain about.

It starts with hiring good leaders and getting the hell out of their way. JR doesn't need to show any leadership. He needs to ok a budget and smoke a cigar in his suite. Let the baseball people lead their staffs. Pedro needs to lead. It doesn't matter what anyone else in the organization is doing. He's the manager, they are his players. They are his coaches. Go be a leader. He doesn't need JR to be a leader first. If JR never met another player the team would be better. Kenny needs to lead the front office. He doesn't get to hide behind JR. Same with Hahn. If they can't lead their areas they need to be fired. It's on them. No blaming JR that these men can't lead.

I'm not certain that selling tickets in any sport at the college or pro levels is as important in the 21st century than it was in the 20th century. Those colleges jumping conferences aren't mentioning selling more tickets. Have a big enough crowd to look good on TV seems to make owners happy. Based on comments here regarding what folks would like to have the opportunity to do at a Soxfest it doesn't sound like the best path to selling tickets. Perhaps you would buy a few more but I'm not certain folks screaming sell the team, fire Hahn, fire Pedro, and the resulting coverage will cause people to jump online and pull out their credit cards. Actually just the opposite. Like I'm certain anyone who played in the 60s and 70s we had players attend our little league banquets during their season. I remember Don Kessinger handing me our championship trophy. I don't see any player, front office, or owner of any team doing that now. Different time.

That's why Veeck never had one. He was too smart. Too bad they didn't read Machiavelli's The Prince. They never should have started Soxfest, now it's expected. And sell outs mean, in part, that ticket prices are too low. Any business that has a capacity will keep pushing prices until they are running at just less than full capacity. If sell outs were truly important they could slash ticket prices and fill all the seats. But you know that.

You aren't worried about the 50+ years of declining population in the city? Have both teams just conceded the suburbs by not being there?
-
It would be fitting. It was kind of amazing how badly attendance fell for Montreal this century. I always liked the international angle, which is why I wish baseball would add or relocate a couple teams to Mexico.
-
So would you give up baseball or become a Cub fan? College is different. They draw best from campus.

That's where the suburban location is key. Brand new stadium versus old. It could compete nicely against the old stuff around town. Anyone still going to the Aragon? Popular Creek? Warehouse? But it's difficult to beat events like: 1977 Pink Floyd, Animals Tour, Soldier Field. I only had my learners permit but managed to drive into the city and not hurt anyone lol.

And bring in a new team.
