Steve, it's even harder to manage a Hahn roster against MLB teams. I really don't see Tony returning to the dugout especially to manage a 90 loss team. Pedro will be here for his contract, pay his dues, and be the Doug Collins of Chicago baseball.
-
X2 Even better, the icing on the cake would be Boston and New York at seven or eight games over .500 missing the playoffs.
-
With as weak as the division is and will likely continue to be, it wouldn't be impossible for most any franchise in this case to get to .500 But looking at our track record I'm thinking 2028. We will be running out a bunch of AAA and AAAA guys for the next couple of years plus a few MLB guys declining right before our eyes.

Here we go again . . .

Grade Rick Hahn's Trade Deadline Performance

If the best offer was the equivalent of the Astros offering Jose back, it's an easy decision. If they were offered Ohtani he's an idiot. So who knows? -

Hear is a crazy thought, what is they extend him before the season ends? Have somebody that isn't pitching batting practice every fifth day. -

Generally about contracts, not necessarily Grandahl not another player down the road . . . Sometimes you are just extending payments. We can give him x over three or x over four. Same money, longer contract. -
Grade Rick Hahn's Trade Deadline Performance

Without knowing what offers came in, I'm thinking it's a B deadline grade. He might have made some offers and was turned down while turning down counter offers. I don't believe we really lost any of the trades made, but down graded a little for trades not made. -
Soxtalk rule #27.1 If you have a favorite Sox front office person have a thick skin because you are wrong. He sucks.
-
Ok. So teams wouldn't be responsible for developing their own players. As a Sox fan I see how that would be a boost. Would you eliminate the draft then?
-
You want to keep bad teams around as long as possible. As a Sox that makes sense. I want bad teams out sooner so the good teams can start playing each other. The shorter the regular season, the more meaningful each game is. Lose one game out of 162 is much different than losing one game out of three, four or seven. We can call it eliminating them from some of the regular season if you prefer.
-
It could also increase tanking depending on how the finances are distributed. Not much different than now if TV and other money is equally distributed. Profits could be greater for a second division team with a low payroll. V The AAA to MLB sounded good until I realized a franchise could have two teams in MLB and another franchise none.
-
How about this is. (Which could never happen logistically). After 80 games divide into two divisions a 16 team loser division and a 14 team winner division. They each play an additional 80 game regular season with a four team upper division playoff. No playoffs for the losers.
-
Once you have more than one team in the playoffs you have an "unworthy" team. The only question is how many unworthy teams you want in. To me at some point in the season you stop to eliminate some bad teams and allow better teams to continue. We typically call that playoffs. At that point the league is more interesting. I'm in favor of any plan that cuts the crappy teams early. That means a shorter regular season and more playoffs. Keeping bad teams around longer doesn't make the games more meaningful.
-
True. Here's a sad thought. You're assuming the Sox will ever go up to even be in the position to be relegated.
-
Once you give up trying to compete it's all fun.
-
A odd number league doesn't work unless you don't mind one team not playing for three or four days straight. But that's a minor issue. Your plan works also.
-
Trademark that. You'll be using it for years with this organization.
-
I gotta agree. I think there is a lot to be said for a 16 team premier league and expansion for a 16 team loser league. Twelve teams go into the playoffs bottom four swap with the four best from the worst.

Soxtalk rule #27 If you like the move, you credit your favorite front office person. If you dislike the move, you blame the front office guy you dislike the most.
-
All true. This could be kind of reminiscent of the Comiskey family fighting after Charles died.
-
It's probably unfair and inaccurate to judge someone on their best, or worst, day. But for me, it takes a lot of really good days to make up for the Beach scandal.

We can't blame this on cheap labor. The team consistently underperforms their payroll. They are constantly behind the times. They were one of them last teams to employ a full time analytics guy then eliminated the position. It's actually mind boggling how inefficient and incompetent they are. Plus, just bad luck. Even when they take a safe pick like Madrigal it doesn't work out. They should trademark snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Random distribution would have every team winning a world series once every thirty years. If I thought I'd live another fifteen years I'd bet against them even appearing in a WS.
