  1. It’s so funny to see you still defending this little “120 game” hill all by yourself. ?
  2. I vividly remember sitting with a Red Sox fan acquaintance the week entering the 2005 playoffs. He said “boy, I wouldn’t be feeling too good if I were you. White Sox almost blew their lead and haven’t really played well in like three months. Red Sox are the champs. Just doesn’t feel like your year.” You know what? Deep down, I felt “he’s right.” That was the zeitgeist at that moment. Couldn’t beat the good teams. Recently spanked by the Angels. We were out of gas. He was right. Until he wasn’t. Lots of revisionist history about the 2005 team. Not sure what will happen with this bunch, but we’re blessed to be in position to roll into the playoffs untouched. If we get hot at the right time with our full team together (for more or less the first time) watch the fuck out.
  3. .500 against the most brutal part of our schedule? I’ll take it
  4. Bauer is a piece of shit and I thank god every day we didn’t sign him.
  5. Pretty good reveal video. Uniforms are either “classic” or “boring” depending on your perspective. An awful lot like their regular uniforms.
  6. We would be LUCKY to miss the playoffs in the aggressive, first-class way the mighty Padres might. I’m but a humble White Sox fan, but I’d like to personally thank the Padres ownership for showing the rest of the baseball world what a third place team is supposed to look like.
  7. Wow! Then they would have like three or four high profile position players as a core! They haven’t had that since…well, like a few weeks ago when they were in third place. ?
  8. Boy, it would be something if the Padres missed the playoffs….
  9. I agree—it’s a laugh riot. Hard to remember that there were Cub fans still crowing about *this season* just a few weeks ago.
  10. I don’t think “most” feel that way—fanboys, sure, but it takes a lot of imagination to envision the Cubs building a contender out of this trash heap in basically one season.
  11. Long drive so missed the game. Game thread with page count in the teens. All I can ask for!
  12. I’m sure I’m not the first to mention the douche behind the plate with the “Wrigleyville” fail Jersey. What a waste of a ticket.
  13. I'd love to see Houston knocked into (and out of ) a play-in game.
  14. Yes. Don't mess with the space/time continuum
  15. I'm afraid you've missed the point. It's not open to question whether you "do" or "don't." [have FO-level transparency into the market e.g.]. You don't. Neither does anyone on the board.
  16. This applies to every opinion about the organization that's expressed on this board, really, except maybe the ones coming from Jerry Reinsdorf/Rick Hahn's joint burner account.
  17. Yeah, this is the reason I'm at peace with the trade despite my skepticism about the price. There's no question it dramatically improved our team this year, and every contending season is precious. No guarantee we'll get a clearer shot again.
  18. On #3, this is similar to some other responses I've seen to skepticism about the prospect cost of the Kimbrel trade (and other past trades), where the premise of the cross-examination seems to be that fans have no room to criticize a trade because they (i) don't know for sure there were better deals available for the same return, (ii) don't know for sure whether there were preferable returns the other team would have accepted for Kimbrel/player, or (iii) don't know for sure whether there were better deals out there in general. Fair point I guess, but keep in mind you can make the same point about any layperson criticism of any trade, and taken to its extreme it makes every FO move above reproach. You can always point to the informational advantages of the FO to suggest that whatever trade was made had to be the best and only one available. You don't really have to have FO-level transparency into the market, or your own solidly-formulated and vetted alternative trade, to opine that a trade was an overpay.
  19. The Cubs aren’t in our division they’re not in our division aaaaaaAAAAHHH ?
  20. every day i wake up and wish for health, luck, a sunny day, and a Soxtalk game thread with a page count in the teens …and with that post I push it to 20 ?
  21. Yeah, the Cubs sucking is part of what makes it fun. I had the supposed decade long Cub dynasty shoved down my throat for years. They implode and what, we’re supposed to be upset about that? I’ll never get the whole “i wish we wouldn’t beat the Cubs’ asses so badly” point of view.
