  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) Yeah, that sounds really classy. Mocking a guy because his wife cheated on him. I can't wait to yell things at Mariano Rivera about his nephew getting electrocuted. Well what can I say, I guess Im a classy guy. Who knew?
  2. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Nov 23, 2006 -> 09:36 AM) The problem is identifying and then drafting the quality players. It is one thing to have the picks, it is another to get good value from them. No doubt. One of the problems for the sox has been drafting quality pitching. I will say that Broadway looks like he could be a solid 4 or 5 pitcher for us and who knows he could do better.
  3. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) ESPN is reporting that the Marlins are shopping those two right now Oh, I havent heard that. Well that could be a scenerio. Could be used as part of a three-way too.
  4. QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 12:32 PM) JR will not sign a pitcher for more than 4-5 years. And I highly doubt he will do it for 5. This is why the trade for one of starting pitchers is important. You have a few established veterans and slide in a young pitcher each year and keep the rotation going. You trade for some veterans who only have a few years left on thier deal ie Vazquez. This will build a good pitching staff. I think this is the reason the recent drafts have focused on safe picks. They may not be studs but you have a much better chance of having that cheap pitcher in the rotation on a consistent basis. Whether this philosophy will be good enough to wins another WS (I still love saying another not if we can win one) remians to be seen. The White Sox will always operate on a budget so the thoery seems sound to me. Your exactly right. Thats what Detroit has been doing the last few years. Get quality draft picks and get good players in return through trades. Oh yeah, lets not forget about Beane in Oakland too.
  5. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Sounds good to me The only prob. is that from what ive heard Florida is high on Petit but Im sure they would like to have Fields so who knows. On second thought we might need Fields, oh s***!
  6. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) Verlander and Bonderman dropped by as well Oh yeah Zumaya said sorry he couldnt make it hes hangin w/ Rodney right now. I think those are some good reasons.
  7. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) BA to the Marlins for Petit and Mitre. Mitre, BMac and Fields to the Rays for Crawford. I like the idea accept we keep BMc and send petit packing. Petit's #s dont look too impressive, in fact pund for pound Broadway had better #s.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) Johan Santana says hi. Yes, so does C.C. and Liriano said "I be back"
  9. How about Tavares from Houston? I know his #s arent the best but hes only 25 and should get better. This is only if you cant get a guy like Crawford.
  10. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) I disagree...he was able to get Crawford for Vazquez and Fields. That's a great trade. I'm surprised he was able to talk the DRays into that one. That will NEVER happen. We are talking about the D-Rays here. One of the lowest payroles in the league and will not take on a salarie like Javy"s. They have already said they want more than just pitching prospects, they want a young pitcher(s) who can start for them in 07. Thats why we keep hearing about BMc as possible trad-bait. If the D-Rays would take Javy/ Fields for Crawford I will buy them first class tickets on the flight out of Chicago and as an added bonus some hookers for the long flight to Tampa. In other word I totaly agre with you hitless.
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 07:55 PM) I think they were divorced by then. Oh ok. If thats the case Im Frank had already replaced her with a few more women and it didnt matter anyway.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) Wasn't there a story about Royce Clayton and Frank Thomas' wife? I wonder how often this kind of thing happens... Oh, and it's a little old, but... http://soxmachine.com/blogs/soxmachine/arc...11/16/2010.aspx and this one, which is a little more relevant today: http://soxmachine.com/blogs/soxmachine/articles/1967.aspx Good stuff. I never heard anything about Clayton and Thomas' wife but who knows. I will say this, if Clayton did Franks wife he should buy lotto tickets cuz hes lucky to be alive.
  13. Good for Juan. I will drink my next case of beer in Juan's honor.
  14. Maybe thats why the Sox obtained Martinez a few years down the road.
  15. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) Ha, that's a little before my time. I suppose Mark Grace was sleeping with Ryne Sandburg's wife? Where d'you know this from -- the papers, a book? Thers various rumors about it. Im sure theres people on here that have more insight to the matter. I believe this happened in the late 80's and it was rumored that Grace and possibley more of Sandburgs team-mates had a good time with Rynos wife. I was at the first regular season game played at the cell between the Sox and Flubs and there was alot of us Sox fans yelling at Ryno asking him if we could have a piece of his wife too. I do know this; he did get divorced shortly after these rumors surfaced so Im positive theres something to it. Any help on this matter from fellow Sox fans would be greatly and humorusly appreciated, at Ryno's expense of course. Sorry I forgot to answer the question. Yes there was some good reading in the papers about it.
  16. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) Undermined the team...LOL, are you serious? F*** blaming Buehrle who had an ERA north of the Navarro line in the second half F*** blaming Garcia's 3 months of ERA north of 5.50 F*** blaming Contreras's injury for the rotation's end over end free-fall(which, looking back, was probably more important than any person has considered) Last time I checked, the team was playing about .666 ball in the first half...all with Javy Vazquez blowing ass for a month and a half. Maybe the Sox tanked like a college student because because the offense went down the s***ter, the bullpen was mediocre as hell, and the rotation was bad. Undermined the team...if ANYTHING undermined the team, it was Ozzie Guillen's persistence to constantly mismanage the club, never putting them in the best position to win. How are you going to score with a .300 OBP at the top of the order? How is he going to get into scoring position when he steals at a 66% clip? How are the pitcher's supposed to excel when you have a little leaguer (defensively) in CF half the time? If you can figure those out without going Ozzie on me and telling me that hemakesdafookinglineup, then you can further explain to me how Javy undermined the team. Until then, I ain't listening. OUCH! Someone just woke up a sleeping giant. I agree with you man, to blame one guy for a bad season is crazy. Javy played his part no doubt but the underachieving season was a collective effort, unfortunately.
  17. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 05:52 PM) A Cub fan and I were talking earlier today and he said, "Buehrle hasn't been the same since he got cheated on by his wife." My friend Rashawn, a Cub fan went, "What?!" and I said, "Uh, I don't think that happened or that, if it did, you'd know about it." Then he told me how much better the Cubs were going to be next year and that Soriano would take them all the way. It was the weirdest conversation. Well what do you expect from a Flub fan. I think he was confusing MB for Sandburg. Next time ask him what Grace thought of Sandburgs wife.
  18. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) While I certainly wouldn't give him that kind of deal and I don't think anyone will, but I never thought Juan Pierre would get $45 million or the Walker LOOGY would get $3million-$4million a year. I think the way its going, the White Sox are going to have to overpay if they want to sign a free agent, or if they want to acquire good players and/or retain them. I do laugh that Boras says Zito isn't an injury risk. There is no such thing as a pitcher who isn't an injury risk. Damn right about the injury risk. Now s***-head Boras is Nostradomus? Thats OK b/c thanks to Boras and Zito, Sox pithers will look even better on the trade market. Where else can you go to get quality pitching for those (now cheap) salaries. Way to go Borass keep up the good work and thanks for helping us to get even better propects in return.
  19. How about this. If Sox fans had the choice of who was dealt... Which team would you deal with and for what prospects?
  20. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 07:14 PM) I believe you're misunderstanding my theory. You're looking at such a deal now. Look at it from the beginning -- A dependable MLB reliever, swingman/starter capable of 100+ innings, AND a good OF prospect brought you Vazquez. This was following a mediocre season from Javier in the national league, and when the market didn't necessitate someone overpaying for a pitcher. We didn't exactly need one, BTW. McCArthy could have been in the rotation and Hernandez in the bullpen with Vizcaino. Following another medicore year in 2006, I figure he'll command a similar package -- if not for the current market of starting pitchers. This changes everything. Even if you're looking for something similar, you have to reasonably compare Young and Danks in their respective positions. Now, does Masset compare to Vizcaino? Hell no. There's not even a swingman starter in the current proposal from the Rangers. Danks/Masset isn't overpaying, as I would hope for -- but about equal value. Trading for 'equal value' shouldn't be our objective. That's all I'm suggesintg. OK. I see what your saying. I agree we shouldnt be looking for equal value but more than that. It seems the Rangers want their pitcher for now as well as their pitchers for the future and thats just not going to happen, especially with who I think is the smartest GM in all of sports KW. If it was up to me I would tell Texas what we would expect in return for which-ever pitchers they are looking at and if they dont like then PISS OFF. There are plenty of teams we can deal with and its still early in the off-season.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) ...or more than one of them (given the same market conditions you refer to, it does sort of make sense to sell when the bids might be the highest) You got it. As long as we can get someone to slide into the rotation with Jose,BMc,JG and MB that would be getting the most out of our pitchers who could fly the coop in 08.
  22. QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) Overpaid? He traded a broken down pitcher who won't throw more than140 innings again in his life, a decent middle reliever and a good hittng prospect for an innings eater talented starting pitcher. By that theory, we cannot get a good starting pitching prospect for an established starting pitcher. The starting pitching market is a bit different this year with sky-rocketing prices and the free-agent market being so thin if KW holds out he will get good returns for one of the starters.
  23. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) If the conversation doesn't begin with Danks and Masset, Kenny Williams could stop the talks all together. Yup. Teams need to remember that the Sox have what they need and not the other way around. Teams also need to remember that you have to give up quality to get it. Even though every starter underachieved to some degree they are still worth alot on the trade market and if the Rangers dont get it then f*** them b/c there more teams interested than what the papers say.
  24. This is a bit off subject but I wonder if Casman would change his mind about Hughes and Clippard if KW dangled Garland.
  25. QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) I used the numbers I posted in the Daily Stats Thread. Daily Stats Thread I call a start bad at a 6 ERA, giving Javy 12, Buerlhe also had 12. Freddy only had 8. When the starter throws 6 ERA ball it is very difficult for his team will win. As a team White Sox were 12-40 in these bad starts, 26-17 when the starter was Meh (3-6), and 50-10 with Quality outings (3 or less). The more baseball I watch the more I am convinced that most games are lost by one team rather than won by the other. Basic competent baseball, which includes catching the ball, smart pitch selection and getting runners on, over and in will beat a bunch of jazzy all-stars almost every time. A sound defense and a couple of runs are of great help to the pitcher. The pitcher has to avoid dumb mistakes and keep his concentration. I think pitchers make 'errors', for example throwing a 0-2 slider to Craig f-ing Monroe, just like a fielder kicking a ball. How else to explain Javy's lousy record despite his great stuff? He finds a way to lose. Your absolutely right. Thats a question alot of people would like answered. I dont know if its a lapse in concentration on executing his pitches or just not making adjustments to the hitters but he should have better #s than he does based on his stuff alone.
